Brocedes-coded songs (pt. 1)
Deep into the Brocedes brainrot rabbithole, I have compiled some songs which reflect the nuance of their relationship. Am I doing this because I just finished school and find myself with nothing better to do? Absolutely.
Just to clarify, this is merely fictional conjecture and does not reflect the legitimate state of Brocedes’ relationship (tldr: this is a shitpost).
#1- John My Beloved (Sufjan Stevens)
Starting off on a semi-obscure note and the connections here might be a *bit* of a stretch, but some of the lyrical parallels are golden (or should I say, silver).
appearing approximately 10 seconds into the song, a clear indication that the lyrics would be from Lewis’ perspective, we get into some of the more impactful leitmotifs, including:
OUCH. I read this as the feigned niceties which were necessary despite the behind-the-scenes Merc infighting starting in approximately 2014 when things started heating up. Winning the championship is a task of individuality, and would inherently ostricize Nico from Lewis when the duo would start intensely competing for it.
Then we repeat the same leitmotif with slightly different lyrics, arguably the strongest comparison with Brocedes.
These lines reveal a bit of a double entendre. Prior to the separation, the two attempted to hang on to their fractured relationship. "Can we be friends?" refers to the longing to maintain a relationship. It now more closely correlates with Nico's desire to rekindle a friendship with Lewis now that he has retired. Lewis has not returned the sentiment due to the elements of betreyal which riddled their 2016 season, revealing the one-sided pining.
ALSO THE LAST TWO LINES AHHH- The media is notorious for misconstruing representation of relationships. Formula 1 is known for enhancing the dramatic nature of rivalries. It could be true that Lewis and Nico still share an extremely close bond, yet the media as well as the fans (more prominently) refuse to acknowledge this in favor of the heated drama. "The world" cannot comprehend the true bond that the two share, instead opting to assume that they are no longer close.
THIS. LINE.
This is by far the closest connection to the duo. The plea to contend peacefully, as opposed to the heated exchanges of the past is a sentiment shared by both. All they wanted to do was fulfill a childhood dream together and they were ultimately left with a tattered relationship.
"Before our history ends" is a reference to the lasting legacy that the duo will leave as rivals and individual drivers.
It reveals a finality to their association and a cessation of the non-speaking terms on which they now stand.
