fanon and i don't get along. i'm sorry in advance.

fenris is not an alcoholic. he goes through six bottles (through drinking and shattering against the walls of the house danarius estate in kirkwall) of a very specific wine in which he drinks/wastes to prove a point to himself and to his abuser. there are two scenes in the entire game where fenris has a bottle in his hand, last i checked. his consumption is about as normal as everyone else's in the party, i promise :' )

contrary to popular belief, fenris is in fact capable of being level-headed and reasonable. one has to remember that da2 was written from varric tethras' point of view (love him to death, this is not necessarily a bad thing) and told from such a perspective to spin a story for the seekers following the explosion of the chantry in kirkwall. things are embellished for flavor, and that does include fenris' temper.

the above being said, he does still have somewhat of a short fuse; how quickly it burns down is dependent on a few different things. the biggest factor is his mindset for the day - as fenris is a survivor of abuse and is actively recovering throughout the events of da2, he not only suffers from ptsd but chronic pain. he might come off snappy, harsh, or even cruel, but these instances are fewer and further between than the game might lead one to believe. you have to remember that we are seeing specific aspects of the champion's journey through kirkwall. there are several time skips. fenris' outbursts are concentrated in these scenarios for a reason.

if you are interested in shipping with fenris, it is important to note that no one is safe from the awkward situationship. you know exactly which one i am talking about. i have linked my post that explains it in more depth for future reference.

fenris is, up until the events of da2, somewhat avoidant of intimacy due to his past. only in kirkwall does he start to confidently branch out in his bisexuality. while he does experience sexual attraction, romantic attachment is a little harder for him to wrap his head around.

verse-wise, i have a number of scenarios that can be freely plotted within. i have developed a verse where fenris becomes a grey warden in dragon age: origins; i have a verse where fenris becomes a companion during the events of inquisition. i also have a verse where fenris becomes rook in datv. however, the main verse on this blog will follow the events of da2, as well as the comics centered around the blue wraith.

it is also canon to this blog's main verse that fenris is a founding member of the lucerni, and eventually, the shadow dragons through his (headcanon-based) post-trespasser connection with dorian pavus. while he is considered to be a decision maker, it is not known that he is a member of the shadow dragons, beyond a circle of trust. in-depth meta to come at a later date.

his surname is only theirin if he is legitimized by the crown via becoming king. if he remains a warden following dao, alistair does not have a surname, as he is an orphan in the eyes of the chantry. his name is simply alistair.

alistair agreed to the dark ritual with morrigan. in this blog's world state, he is kieran's biological father. of course, if you are a morrigan/kieran/hof and this does not align with your canon, then we can absolutely tweak it. but generally, unless the interaction comments on it, the former can be assumed.

while alistair is a former-chantry brother originally set on becoming a templar prior to his time as a grey warden, he did not use lyrium at any point in his training despite what the comics tell you.

this is pretty widely accepted, so i don't need to expand upon this too much, but alistair is half-elven. there are only three people in the world that know his heritage for certain, and two of them are dead (i won't get into the technicalities of maric still being alive; that's another post for a different day). alistair is not one of these people.

due to his (unbeknownst to him) biology, alistair's ears are pointed, just slightly and his eyesight is immaculate; if your character points it out, he will let it roll off his back and probably make some sarcastic remark because he's been teased about both in the past; for all he knows, though, he is entirely human. unless you are the only other person on the planet alive that knows (his biological mother) or you have proof that it came from her mouth and you insist, he will not believe you.

additionally, while alistair does eventually explain to the hof that he is the bastard of the late-king, this is not something that everyone knows. unless your muse is the hero of ferelden, fiona, any one of the fereldan noble family, it is not likely that your muse will know his parentage. i would prefer if this is left up to plotting!

at the end of dragon age: origins, alistair has the option of remaining a grey warden or becoming the king of ferelden. while bioware's canon is that he becomes king and he's pretty okay at it (and this was originally my blog's canon), i think either option is viable. therefore, i am happy to write either.

parents: alexandre and renee adigery; the lord and lady of minor hereditary holdings in the northern part of orlais, though the responsibility had not been passed down from alexandre's parents at the time of their move to kirkwall. renee, being a native of the free marches, and much to the chagrin of her in-laws (who are already wary of their eldest son's choice in spouse), insisted that they return to her place of birth for a short time upon their marriage to give alexandre "some perspective." it is there that they stayed until edmund's death and elodie's entry into the circle.

siblings: the eldest adigery child is emelie, who takes her templar vows at 18 when elodie is only 3 years old. edmund is the middle child, three years older than elodie, and dies at the age of 11 due to suspicious circumstances. this makes elodie the only remaining heir of her family's holdings, though it is forfeit upon her entry into the circle.

in 9:18, elodie's connection with the fade begins to manifest in her day to day life. wracked with nightmares and terrified of the things she sees in her dreams, elodie becomes sleep-avoidant and develops chronic sleep insomnia. her parents suspect she may be a mage, but renee and alexandre, disillusioned by the chantry and sympathetic to the oppression mages face in kirkwall, agree to keep it hush-hush until it's confirmed or their daughter becomes a danger to herself and the family.

in 9:19, after a year of recurring night terrors and sleepless nights, alexandre begins making preparations to move his wife and two young children back to orlais, to their familial estate; in this, he hopes, that a change of scenery and closer kinship with the rest of her family might do his youngest some good.

elodie's nightmares end abruptly. the child sleeps through the night (at her own body's behest), but rising tension is noted between elodie and edmund. though she is sleeping somewhat soundly upon her parents' investigation, edmund is routinely hounding her sleep when she manages it, and teases her endlesly to the point of cruelty over her nightmares.

9:20 - the adigery family is awoken in the night to screaming, routine at first. but it isn't elodie; it's edmund. five hours later, before the sun rises on kirkwall, his heart gives out.

elodie, three days after her brother's wake and two after emelie's return to her station within the gallows, she admits to her mother that she had inflicted edmund with the nightmare in a impulsive need for someone to understand what she went through on a nightly basis, what kept her so scared of sleeping. he teased her relentlessly, hounded her sleep when she was finally able to rest soundly, and terrorized her to no end. when renee asks her if she'd meant to hurt him, she is honest when she says no.

9:20 — elodie is escorted from her home in hightown by a coterie of templars. reports of bystanders remark upon the fact that her parents do not weep in the streets when elodie cries out for her mother. emelie adigery is abruptly reassigned to the circle in cumberland.

9:20 - 9:32 — elodie resides within the circle of kirkwall, also known as the gallows. a knack for entropy magic surfaces; due to its nature, she is kept on a tight leash. after her harrowing, most of her time is spent as an assistant to senior enchanters; this time becomes more and more scarce as more and more restrictions are placed on the mages in kirkwall, though the first enchanter sees potential in her and adopts her as his apprentice.

9:31 — a rumor surfaces that a harrowed mage provides services in secret to templars experiencing adverse side effects from overuse of lyrium. through her work in this, elodie exacts favors and leniency from the templars she treats while on duty. additionally, she learns of the tunnels under the gallows that empty into kirkwall.

9:32 — a templar, routine in his use of her services and once-close friend of elodie's older sister, agrees to help her escape.

9:32 — newfound in her freedom and terrified of recapture, elodie begs the first warden she sees to conscript her, even with the chance of a fatal joining. despite her chronic exhaustion and general malaise, she pulls through the joining out of sheer will and spite. elodie adigery is now a warden in the order of the grey.

9:41 — following the destruction of the chantry in kirkwall, elodie's warden-commander is approached by divine justinia via a trusted envoy, who had been directed to their division requesting the presence of a warden as means of mediation between the mages and templars at the conclave held in haven. elodie, though she has no interest in politicking but every interest in the freedom of mages, begrudgingly accepts the responsibility and makes the journey from the free marches to haven. her arrival marks the explosion at the temple of sacred ashes, and thus begins the events culminating in the reinstatement of the inquisition in the divine's name, and the unraveling of the world as they know it.
