Something I appreciate so much about Pursuit of Jade is Changyu's journey to becoming a General. Everything about how she learned martial arts, picked up a weapon for the first time, killed someone for the first time, all feels so natural. Life happened to her and she had to make choices and act to protect her loved ones. Her dad taught her how to fight but even though her dad forbade her from fighting and showing her skills, once her parents died, she had to start fighting to protect her sister, her home and herself. Then when Changning got kidnapped, she had to go hunt down child traffickers' dens. She had no clue about Changning's whereabouts and so had no choice to but track down and beat up every child trafficker she could find. She didn't do it because she wanted to be a detective or join the police department, which all would've been fine, but for a period woman with pig butchering as her family's business, it just feels so natural that the reason she did all that was to protect her loved one, in this case, Changning. Then in today's episodes, she agreed to go to the army to help Tutor Tao and she came back even though she knew it was dangerous, to protect Tutor Tao. At the end of episode 23, she volunteers to deliver food and medicine to Marquis of Wu'an not because she is looking to get military accolades, but because her dad told her that Marquis of Wu'an is a great man and she knows Marquis of Wu'an massacred Qingfeng Stronghold in retaliation for what happened in Lin'an, so to her he's a man fighting to protect the people (which involves herself and her people) so she wants to help him. In preview of ep 26, she drugs Yan Zheng ( THIS GIRL LOL) because she fears he'll die on the battlefield and goes to war in his place, again, not because she wants to show everyone how "girls are not inferior" but because she wants to protect her loved one, in this case, Yan Zheng. Even the first person she ever killed was to protect Changning.

It would've been fine if she had big ambitions of entering the military or something else entirely from the start like a shounen anime protagonist, but with her living in times of war, having a pig butcher shop to run, it feels natural and so much better that she is where she is at because bad things happened and she fought back every time so she and her family can keep living. In this way, her journey so far is completely in accordance to her belief that no matter what happens, you have to eat and sleep well.

She is a protector and a provider. 10/10 FL.

and it makes her a much more human and relatable “strong FL” than the 2d cardboard cutout girlboss type of FL, imho. she exists in the context of her world and her people the way a person should. it makes all the relationships and especially the romance much more satisfying.

They deserve the criticism they got for it and it totally would've ended with them getting other much more serious punishments than just 20 leashes if she wasn't Xie Zheng's wife, but I'm not a military person and neither a character in this drama, I am a viewer and as a viewer this was so entertaining and hilarious. 10/10.

The Bandits are the cast and crew for stealing all our joy and destroying Ling'an & everything we held dear in this universe.

If it isn’t Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee of Evil Royals. I take back everything positive I said about the Rice King aka Prince of Darkness + Bratty Royal Sibling. The way they both couldn't care less about the loss of human life was a gut punch. And that's when I got scared.

I was right to be.

The reds we'd seen in the shots when things were good are now blood splatters.

Love our avenging angel.

I still wish she'd just slit his throat.

Iconic role Ms Tian Xiwei.

This was soooo satisfying.

Fly bird, fly. When I took this screenshot I did it because I thought it was pretty only when going through my gallery, did I realise what it meant.

Since I had so many episodes to catch up on, I decided to skip all the teasers. I really was waiting for a reveal that Xie Zheng had a hidden team protecting her while he was away. It doesn't make sense to me that he didn't. And as much as I love the gyrfalcon, it doesn't count.

The attention to detail re: the camp. Well done set design team.

Did he really leave her alone and defenseless after half his court/military/royal family frenemies knew he'd been sheltering or sheltered in Ling'an??? I trust the Director so much I can't believe this will not be addressed or be relevant down the road.

But whew. I was distraught all through this episode.

gongsun yin was just flabbergasted today BAHAH esp thought it was funny when he saw changning feeding bunnies and going phew! at least there’s one normal girl in this family! look at this little one just being sweet and raising bunnies! and then once again having his brain frazzled by hearing she’s raising the bunnies to feed to his spy hawk LOL (eeee plus the novel callback of fixing chang ning’s hair!)

omg changyu was so distraught when she didn’t see yan zheng TT they’re so attached TT AND OMG THE ENTIRE NIGHT SEQUENCE bc yes kiss but also that conversation - they’re both so good at being there / talking through things / comforting each other eeeee. just all the conversations they have (the one on the cart!! just so amazing) AND AND the “maybe I should be on top” BAHAHA yes girl indeed
