âBabe?â Jared called out as he entered the house through the heavy, wooden front door.Â
âIn here!â Your muffled voice came from around the corner in the kitchen. Jared made his way to you, a smile on his face as he inhaled deeply through his nose.
âIt smells so good in here.â He hummed, walking up behind you and placing his hands on your hips.Â
âPeach cobbler.â You turned over your shoulder and pecked his cheek, prompting Jared to spin you and lock his lips onto yours. âI was cleaning up.â You muttered into his kiss.
âIt can wait.â He hoisted you by your hips up onto the countertop. Humming against his lips, you shook your head.
âIt canât, babe, Iâm sorry.â You pushed his chest gently and hopped down from your perch. As your bare feet padded against the floor, the oven timer beeped, signaling the dessert was done. âTold you.â You grinned at Jared.
âHm.â He pouted, folding his arms over his chest and watching you bend down and collect the dish from the oven.
You set the hot cobbler on the stovetop and turned off the oven, then found your way back into Jaredâs embrace. He reached behind you, untying your apron strings at your waist and lifting it over your neck. The apron flew to land on the rest of the mess on the counter, flour dusted across the granite and measuring cups sitting in the sink to be washed. This time, when Jared lifted you, he used the backs of your thighs and instantly brought your legs to wrap around his hips. From the kitchen, he carried you through the long hallway and into the bedroom, where he tossed you onto the massive bed covered in throw pillows.
âHow long until thatâs cool enough to eat?â He asked, his face pressed against the side of your neck.
You drew back, pursing your lips, eyes slightly wide. âYou're concerned about the pie?â
Jared grinned, his smirk popping the dimple on his left cheek. âNo, babe. Iâm not concerned about the pie.â He nipped at your collarbone. âI donât want to burn you when I lick it off your body.â

With the house descending into silence, you allowed yourself a moment to collapse onto the lounge in the living room with a loud sigh. With tired eyes your gaze focused on the ceiling, staring at the crystal chandelier as it glittered brightly.
A small smile crossed your lips, grateful for the peace and quiet. Lady Worthington, Mary and Elizabeth had left for the ball mere minutes ago, all of them excited and nervous about their prospects for the night. You hoped that Elizabeth and Lord Burton would get a chance to speak tonight, she had been so beside herself before she entered the carriage to depart. They had travelled with the Cowper family, who had sneered at your person when you had helped the Worthingtonâs to the carriage.
The train attached to Lady Worthingtonâs dress was a nightmare to manage, all bundled up in your arms so as to not drop it in the mud at your feet. You were covered in it now, thanks to a harsh push from Cressida who sent you sprawling onto the ground. Luckily however, you managed to save the train though.
You felt the sting of tears prick your eyes, a sense of sadness overwhelming you. How had you become so unfortunate? To be stuck with a wicked witch for a stepmother, and two stepsisters that laughed at you upon your little trip in the dirt. Elizabeth hadnât said anything, nor looked your way when Mary and Elizabeth started to cackle loudly. She merely turned away; her eyes downcast as she carried herself into the awaiting carriage.
You missed your father, you missed your mother. Their love and kindness was completely gone from this home, the home you had grown up in as a child. You cried into the cushions, sobbing loudly and desperately. You had never felt so alone, so vulnerableâŚso lost. You knew that they would want you to be brave, to stay strong, and to have hope that everything will work out in the end. Your mind flickered back to the book you were reading earlier that morning, of the fabled prince charming sweeping the princess off her feet, and living happily ever after.
Perhaps your prince charming was around the corner, perhaps he was waiting for you somewhere to take you away from this now horrid home, filled with heartache and distant memories-
There was a loud knock at the door, so loud that it echoed throughout the foyer and into the living room. You jumped with a small squeak, bolting upright in your position on the lounge. You wiped your eyes, drying your hands on your muddy dress and wiping your nose with your apron. It was unladylike surely, but you were not a Lady anymore. After trying and failing to make yourself look presentable, you hurried towards the door as the knocking sounded again. It sounded desperate, frantic even, your face contorting into a confused expression as you tried to think of who it could be.
It couldnât be a visitor for Lady Worthington or her daughters, the rest of high society was at Lady Danburyâs ball, and it was way too late in the night for anyone to be here in the first place. So, who could it be? As you opened the door your breath caught in your throat, your heart skipping a beat as you recognised the man that stood before you.
Viscount Anthony Bridgerton smiled, staring down at you with kind and soft expression. His eyes never left yours as he spoke, seemingly examining every inch of your face as he bowed politely.
âMiss Y/n, I apologise for calling so late, would I perhaps be able to come in-â
âWhy are you here!?â You found yourself exclaiming, your eyes wide in shock as you felt your heart began to beat wildly. Anthony Bridgerton, one of the most distinguished men on all of the ton was standing on your doorstep. Why?
Anthony chuckled, his charming smile widening as he shrugged his shoulders. âWhy not?â he replied lightly, finding amusement in your expression as it changed from shock to pure bewilderment.
âIf you are here to see Lady Worthington or her daughters, they are goneâ You replied shortly, your gaze falling nervously to the floor as you suddenly became very aware of your current state. You were completely covered in slowly drying mud, bloodshot eyes from crying, you no doubt looked like a complete wreckâŚwonderful.
Anthony hummed âIâm not here to see then, thank god. They arrived at the ball shortly after I left-â
âWhy did you leave? Surely someone will notice your absence, and what will the ton think if you are found here, aloneâŚwith me-â
âMy brother is good at coming up with excuses, Iâm sure heâll spin some wide tale about my whereaboutsâ.
âAnd is that something you wish to deal with?â
âBenedict can be a bit excentric at times, but I trust him wholeheartedlyâŚâ Anthony finished, clasping his hands behind his back and standing tall, â..now Miss Y/n, may I come inside? Or are you to leave your visitor out in the cold?â.
It hadnât occurred to you until now, but as Anthony stood before you, you couldnât help but notice how tall he truly was. You hadnât noticed it this morning, but he towered over you, the top of your head just barely reaching his chin. You stared up into his eyes, searching for any sign of jest, that this was all some sort of joke, and a complete figment of your imagination conjured up by your saddened state.
But he was real, and he was here.
You released a short breath, a soft smile crossing your lips as you stepped aside and gestured for him to enter.

summary: During a storm, Anthony Bridgerton finds his friend Y/N unconscious after a fall from her horse.
The skies over Aubrey Hall were dark and threatening, the air heavy with the promise of a storm. Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest of the Bridgerton siblings and the responsible Viscount, often found solace in the rhythmic gallop of his horse across the rolling fields. On this particular day, he decided to go for a ride despite the gathering storm clouds, hoping the fresh air would clear his mind.
As he rode through the familiar paths, his thoughts drifted to Y/N. She had been a constant in his life since they were children, their bond as strong as any familial tie. But recently, he found himself noticing her in a new light â the way her laughter warmed his heart, the spark in her eyes when she spoke of her passions, and the gentle grace she carried herself with. Yet, he had not fully confronted these feelings, pushing them aside in the face of duty and responsibility.
The first crack of thunder startled Anthony from his reverie. He looked up, realizing the storm was upon him. Deciding to turn back, he urged his horse into a faster gait. As he approached a familiar clearing, he saw a sight that made his heart stop â Y/Nâs horse was galloping wildly, riderless.
Fear seized him, and he spurred his horse towards the clearing. There, amidst the pouring rain, he saw her â Y/N, lying motionless on the ground. Her form was crumpled, mud and rain soaking her clothes. Without a second thought, Anthony dismounted and rushed to her side.
âY/N!â he screamed, his voice barely audible over the howling wind and rain. He knelt beside her, his heart pounding in his chest as he gently turned her over. Her face was pale, her eyes closed, and she was utterly still. âNo, no, no,â he muttered, panic rising in his throat.
Without wasting another moment, Anthony scooped her up into his arms. She felt frighteningly light, and the fear of losing her gnawed at him with every step. âHold on, Y/N,â he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. âJust hold on.â
The journey back to the Bridgerton estate was a blur of rain and desperation. Anthonyâs muscles burned with the effort, but he didnât slow his pace. His only thought was getting Y/N to safety, to help. The image of her lying unconscious in the rain fueled his determination.
Finally, the grand silhouette of Aubrey Hall loomed ahead. Anthonyâs cries for help alerted the staff, who rushed out to meet him. âGet the doctor!â he shouted as he carried Y/N inside. âNow!â
He placed her gently on a settee in the drawing room, his hands trembling. The house was a flurry of activity, the Bridgerton family and staff moving quickly to assist. Anthony barely registered his motherâs worried face or his siblingsâ concerned questions. All he could see was Y/N, still unconscious and pale.
The family doctor arrived swiftly, ushered in by the commotion. He examined Y/N with a professional detachment that both reassured and terrified Anthony. Every second felt like an eternity as he waited for the doctorâs verdict.
âSheâs sustained a concussion and some bruising,â the doctor finally said, his tone grave. âBut sheâs strong. With proper care and rest, she should recover fully.â
Relief flooded Anthony, and he sank to his knees beside her, tears mingling with the rain still dripping from his hair. âThank you,â he whispered, his voice breaking. âThank you.â
The hours that followed were a blur. Anthony refused to leave Y/Nâs side, holding her hand and willing her to wake up. His mother brought him a dry set of clothes, but he barely noticed the discomfort of his wet clothes. All he could think about was the fear of losing her, and the realization that he couldnât bear the thought.
As the storm raged outside, the hours stretched on. Anthonyâs mind raced with memories â their childhood escapades, the laughter they shared, the unspoken bond that had always existed between them. How had he been so blind? How had he not seen that she was more than just a friend?
It was in the quiet hours of the night, as the storm began to wane, that Y/N finally stirred. Her eyelids fluttered, and a soft moan escaped her lips. Anthony, who had been dozing fitfully by her side, jerked awake, his heart leaping with hope.
âY/N?â he whispered, his voice trembling. âCan you hear me?â
Her eyes opened slowly, focusing on his face. âAnthony?â she murmured, her voice weak.
Relief and joy surged through him, and tears filled his eyes. âOh, thank God,â he breathed. âYouâre awake. Youâre going to be okay.â
Y/Nâs brow furrowed slightly as she took in his tear-streaked face. âWhat happened?â
âYou fell from your horse,â he explained, his voice thick with emotion. âI found you in the clearing. I thought⌠I thought Iâd lost you.â
Tears of his own began to fall as he spoke, the weight of his fear and relief overwhelming him. âI was so scared, Y/N. Iâve never been so scared in my life.â
She squeezed his hand weakly, offering a small, reassuring smile. âIâm here, Anthony. Iâm okay.â
In that moment, Anthony knew he couldnât hold back any longer. The realization that he could have lost her, that he had almost missed his chance, was too much to bear. âY/N, thereâs something I need to tell you,â he said, his voice raw with emotion. âIâve been such a fool. Iâve been blind to whatâs been right in front of me all these years.â
She looked at him, her eyes filled with curiosity and concern. âWhat is it, Anthony?â
âI love you, Y/N,â he confessed, his voice breaking. âIâve loved you for as long as I can remember. But I was too stubborn, too scared to admit it. Finding you today, seeing you like that⌠it made me realize how much you mean to me. I canât lose you. I donât want to live without you.â
Tears welled in Y/Nâs eyes as she listened to his heartfelt confession. âOh, Anthony,â she whispered. âIâve loved you too. Iâve been waiting for you to see it, to understand that my heart has always belonged to you.â
The weight of their unspoken feelings hung in the air between them. Anthony leaned forward, gently brushing his lips against hers in a tender kiss. It was a kiss filled with all the love and emotion that had been building for years, a kiss that promised a future together.
When they finally pulled apart, Anthony rested his forehead against hers, tears of relief and joy mingling with hers. âWeâll get through this together,â he whispered. âIâll take care of you, Y/N. I promise.â
And in that moment, as the storm gave way to a peaceful dawn, Anthony and Y/N knew that their love was strong enough to weather any storm. Their journey had been filled with twists and turns, but they had found their way to each other at last, their hearts and lives intertwined forever.

The path beside the bunker was my favorite place to be, the way the sun dipped below the horizon casting long shadows through the trees always calmed me down. It's been a tough week, and this walk was my brief escape from everything I had to deal with.
My feet stopped abruptly when I heard a loud rustle in the bushes. Before I could react, a man stepped out in front of me, eyes cold and menacing. I tried to grab my gun, but it was too late. He rushed forward and pulled me to his chest, knife pressing roughly against my throat.
"Give me everything you got." he hissed.
Panic surged through my veins. My mind raced, but my body was frozen still. When I hesitated, the knife moved down and slashed my side. Pain flared, hot and intense. I gasped and tried to fend him off, to get a head start and run home but his grip on my arm was too strong.
He ripped my bag from my back and shoved me on the ground, another slash landing across my arm. The world blurred as he disappered into the shadows, leaving me there to bleed out.
My hand clutched my side, blood seeping through my fingers, my phone slipping from my pocket. With trembling hands, I tried to call Dean but I couldn't muster up the strength and the phone fell beside me. I reached forward, managing to type out a quick message before the world started to go dark, my eyes shutting heavily. "Help..."
Back at the bunker, Dean heard the faint ping of his phone. He glanced at the screen, his blood turning cold instantly at my message, "Help..."
He stood from his spot as his chest tightened, different scenerios playing through his mind, but he knew he needed to focus, he needed to find me. He grabbed his keys and bolted out the door, muttering to himself, "I'm coming sweetheart, hang on."
He drove frantically, scanning the pathway as he called my name but heard no response. Finally after what felt like forever, his headlights caught a figure lying on the path, bright blood all around it causing his heart to nearly stop.
Slamming on the breaks, he quickly kicked the door open and rushed towards me, dropping on his knees beside my lifeless body. "Y/N! He shouted, panic filling his chest at the sight of my blood covered body. "I'm here, it's okay, i've got you."
My eyes fluttered at the sound of his voice, slight relief washing over me but the pain was still overwhelming. "D-Dean... I.."
"Shh, don't talk sweetheart." he spoke urgently, "Your safe now, I gotcha."
His eyes widened at the sight of the wound on my side, blood seeping out into the dirt below me. Without hesitiation, he tore his jacket off and pressed it to my side to stop the bleeding, earning a hiss of pain to fall from my lips. "I'm sorry, just keep breathing, okay? Stay with me."
My breath came in quick, shallow gasps as the attack replayed in my mind, the fear and pain twisting my thoughts like torture. "I-I couldn't stop him, I wasn't quick enough" I whispered, my voice trembling.
Dean's eyes softened with a mix of concern "Hey, look at me" He spoke firm, but with a hint of comfort behind it. "You did everything you could. None of this is your fault."
He took my hand tightly, his touch warm and steady, "We're going to get you through this, just keep your eyes on me alright? Focus on my voice."
Very gently, he lifted me into his arms and carried me to the Impala, every step was incruciating, but I trusted him with my life. He drove faster than I've ever seen him drive, face twisted with concern, hand pressing on my wound as much as he could.
When we arrived, he rushed towards the couch and laid me down, apologizing underneath his breath when I groaned in pain. The first aid kit was placed beside me, Dean's shaky hands pulling out the gauze and antiseptic.
I watched with half closed lids as he cleaned and stitched my wounds with practiced skill, he's done it many times for me before but this time his touch was so gentle, his focus unwavering despite the worry etched on his face.
"It's going to be okay." He murmered, more to himself than to me. "You're okay now, your safe."
I couldn't stop the tears that rushed down, a mix of pain and gratitude overwhelming me. He glanced up, eyes wide with panic as he quickly stopped what he was doing. "Shit, I'm sorry, did I hurt you?"
I shook my head rapidly and grabbed his hand, pulling it to chest for comfort. "Thank you. For saving me, for being here."
He smiled softly, hand tightening on mine, "Don't thank me. I'll always be here for you, you know that right?"
I nodded and relaxed my head on the pillow, wiping the tears that stained my cheeks. As he finished stitching my wound, he cleaned up and bandaged me carefully, pressing a gentle kiss against my head as he stood up to pull a chair beside the couch where I lay.
He stayed by my side, hand gripping mine tightly while I stared at the ceiling, eyes filling with tears.
"I thought I was going to die out there." I looked towards him, my voice barely above a whisper.
Dean's expression softened, his hand moving to my forhead to brush the hair from my face. "I won't ever let that happen." He stated, voice thick with emotion. "I'll always come for you, Y/N, always."
I nodded, tears flowing down my cheeks as I bit my lip. "I was so scared."
He leaned forward, thumb brushing away the tears from my cheeks, "I know. But you're safe now. You're here with me."
"Dean.. can you lay with me?" I whispered.
He smiled warmly and nodded, climbing beside me on the couch before opening his arms and hugging me tightly to his chest. His heart was steady and relaxing, a reminder that I was alive and safe.
As I drifted off to sleep, Dean remained by my side, watching over me with fierce determination. In the quiet of the bunker among the shadows and stitches, our friendship turned to love, forced by trust, care and the unspoken promise that we would always find safety and comfort in each other's arms.

|PART ONE| |PART TWO| |PART THREE|
Sooner than he would have liked, the time to leave for Lady Danburyâs ball crept up on Anthony. Truth be told, he really wasnât looking forward to tonight.
Eloise still wasnât speaking with him, at least politely anyway. She would glare, scoff in annoyance every time he opened his mouth, and often snapped a snide remark in reply to a question.
Anthony could see that his mother, Violet, was incredibly uncomfortable with the whole situation. She had warned the two of them to sort out their differences before arriving at Lady Danburyâs residence, otherwise the two would be an embarrassment to not only themselves, but the Bridgerton House. Even if was only just for the night.
The carriage jostled about along the cobblestone street, with Violet, Eloise and Anthony sitting in complete awkward silence. Anthony could feel his sisterâs glare burning holes into his head, the tension weighing heavily as his gaze moved to settle on his mother. Violet looked between her two children nervously.
They were to be at Lady Danburyâs residence any second now, appearing before the ton in such a state was not a good look for anyone. âNow I donât know what is bothering the both of you, but you two need to resolve this matter quickly. You are both the face of our family tonight-â
âMother-â
âEnough! I have never seen the two of you bicker like this before, it is unlike you both. Now I suggest that you settle this matter here and now, before we are to arriveâ Violet snapped, glaring harshly between her two children before her. All Anthony could do was sigh. He heard Eloise scoff, shifting uncomfortably beside him as she grumbled âFine. I will play nice for now, but you need to actually open your eyes-â
âOpen my eyes to what!?â Anthony exclaimed, turning his body to face her fully âYou had told me nothing! What exactly am I supposed to be looking for here?â
âIt is so plainly obvious, even Colin could figure it outâ
âThen why donât you tell me!?â Anthony shouted, hearing his mother sigh heavily across from him.
Eloise glared, clearly uncomfortable with where this conversation was progressing. He noticed that her hands had now clenched into fists by her side, her eyes falling to the carriage floor. âIâŚI cannot, I am sworn to secrecy-â
âOh for the love of-â
âOh thank god, weâve arrivedâŚâ Violet breathed nervously, fixing her cream and gold patterned dress as she adjusted her gloves anxiously. Both Anthony and Eloise fell into silence, anger bubbling in his chest as he continued to stare at his sister.
Something was going on, and it irked him to not know what it was. He felt the carriage stop, and turned his gaze towards his mother as she quickly exited the carriage and breathed a deep sigh of relief. Next was Eloise, who cleared her throat and fixed her skirts as she moved toward the carriage door, but Anthony stopped her. He gently grabbed her forearm, stopping her from moving as she quickly turned to face him, a furious expression on her features.
âDoes this have something to do with Y/n? The girl we met this morning?â.
Heâd been wanting to ask that question since their return home, since Benedict had bothered him all afternoon about his feud with their sister. If this was supposedly about you in some way or anotherâŚwhy? He knew that you and Eloise were close, good friends even. But what did Eloise, and supposedly Colin know that the rest of the ton did not? What was going on in the Worthington household?
The way Eloiseâs expression softened confirmed his suspicions, she sighed heavily. âI can say no more, but I will say this to you, and I want you to think about itâŚreally think about it. The ton knows that Lady Worthington married Lord L/n upon his late wifeâs passing, and she adopted Lord L/nâs daughter alongside her own. So, think on this dear brotherâŚwhat happened to her?â
Anthony froze, his brow furrowing as he though on Eloiseâs words. He hadnât thought about it really, no one had seen Lord L/nâs daughter since his passing. Heâd heard rumours that she had run away in grief, leaving behind her family estate and fortune to Lady Worthington and her daughters. He remembered heâd only seen her once, heâd attended one of Lady Danburyâs balls as a child with his mother and late father. He had been quite nervous being amongst all those people, but he couldnât take his eyes off a young girl about his age, perhaps a little younger, dancing with some of the men and women at the ball.
She had the brightest smile, and a contagious laugh. It was only after the ball upon their return home that Anthony had asked his father who that girl was. Upon hearing that it was the daughter of Lord L/n, heâd hoped to see her again. But he never had.
Violet stuck her head back inside the carriage, glaring at the two of them harshly. âWill the two of you get out!? People are watching!â She exclaimed in a hushed whisper, urging the two of them out with her hand. Eloise forced her arm out of her brotherâs hold and stepped outside, smiling forcefully up at her mother as she tried to appear happy.
But Anthony was stunned. He felt rather uncomfortable now, unsure of what to think or do now with this knowledge. It irked him, made his stomach churn uneasily as he stepped out of the carriage and fixed his jacket. His eyes met Eloiseâs once again, and he couldnât help but feel sad. He entered the ball by her side, his arm looped through hers as they moved about the crowd of people. His mother had disappeared to speak with Lady Danbury, he could see the two on the other side of the room gossiping to themselves happily.
He felt as if he was in a trance. Amongst the dazzling light of the chandelier and the multitude of candelabras strewn about the room, he couldnât focus. The sounds, the surroundings, everything was blurring into one big mass. He left Eloise for a moment, allowing her to mingle with some other debutants while he chose to escape outside for a moment of fresh air.
He felt sick, an uneasy feeling settling in his chest. It had only been an hour since their arrival, but all Anthony wanted to do was leave. He couldnât think straight, couldnât actually come to terms with what Eloise was suggestingâŚif she was even suggesting that in the first place. He took a deep breath in, now turning back to face the congregation inside.
He couldnât go back inside, not after seeing Lady Worthington and her daughters enter the room with an extravagant pose. Upon seeing Lady Worthington, dressed in a deep blue gown with golden shawl draped over her shoulders, Anthony jumped the small balcony and landed in the gardens below. He fixed his jacket, releasing a quick breath as his eyes quickly darted around to make sure no one had seen him.
ThoughâŚhe had to be the most unfortunate man at the ball tonight.
âWhat the hell are you doing!?â Benedict exclaimed in a hushed tone, a confused yet furious expression on his features.
Anthony flinched, lifting his gaze upward and giving his brother an awkward grin.
âCover for meâ.
âExcuse me!?â
âJustâŚbe there for EloiseâŚâ Anthony groaned in annoyance, shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly ââŚI have some business I need to take care of-â
âDonât you dare leave me here withâŚâ Benedict growled, his entire form freezing as he heard the shrill voice of a woman call out to him, one that Anthony couldnât help but snicker at ââŚthat.â
âIt would appear that Miss Mary Worthington requires your presence, dear brother. Perhaps it is I that will enjoy your misfortune instead-â
âOh, oh ha ha haâŚâ Benedict snapped sarcastically, glaring down at his older brother with annoyance ââŚyouâre such little bas-â
âGive my sincerest apologies to our mother, and I shall see you upon my return home!â Anthony called out as he spun on his heel and jogged away, laughing quietly to himself as his brothersâ pleading cries faded into the distance.

Read on AO3
Youâd been with Dean nearly 7 years. You were by his side all through the academy, and when he got his badge. Things had been really good, and while thereâd been no proposal or talk of a family, you felt you were on the way. One day you knew youâd call Dean your husband, and the father of your children.
And then Deanâs hours went up. Fine. He was busy. That happened. However, after the first couple weeks of the new hours you felt like Dean wasnât your Dean. When he would crawl into bed he was out. No pulling you close, no holding you. Instead of eating breakfast with you (on the mornings he was there at the same time), heâd grab something on the way to work. You couldnât remember the last time he had taken you on a date, either. Or surprised you with flowers âjust becauseâ.
After a month of this, you found out that he had a new partner. He hadnât even told you. Youâd met her at the cookout he and a few of his coworkers had now and then. It was them, and their significant others. She had walked up to you, a big smile on her (too beautiful) face. âYou must be Y/N! Iâm Kelly.â She held out her hand, clearly excited to meet you.
You shook it, not wanting to be rude. âNice to meet you. Are you dating one of the guys?â You knew a couple of them were single, so maybe they had met someone?
She chuckled and shook her head. âNo, Iâm Winchesterâs new partner.â She chuckled. New partner ? What happened to his old partner? âFor about a month now.â She moved to stand next to you.Â
âI honestly didnât know he had a new partner.â You admitted, feeling embarrassed. âHe hasnât talked much about work recently.âÂ
âIt does get really busy.â She nodded, a tension settling between the pair of you. âThe guys have been so welcoming, too.âÂ
Her bubblynes was so odd to you. Not in general, but at this moment. How could she not feel the awkwardness? That you clearly had no idea that she even existed before today? âTheyâre all great.â You agreed. âI always look forward to catching up with all of them at the cookouts. I havenât been able to have any of them over for dinner lately.â
âOh, if I would have known I would have invited you when I had everyone over last Wednesday.â She shook her head.Â
âEveryone? Was Dean there?â Your heart clenched. Dean said he had work, so just make yourself something. Was that âworkâ spending time with the guys at Kellyâs?
She nodded. âYeah, him, Cas, SamâŚmost of the guys.â She shrugged. âWe hung out for a couple hours, had some beers.â You couldnât be angry at Kelly. She didnât know that she was pouring salt in your wounds.Â
Dean came over, grinning. He had a beer in one hand, and a plate in the other. âHey, babe. I see you met Winters.â He said happily. âI told you youâd get along.âÂ
You gave him a funny look. âYou never told me about her.â You said awkwardly. âI didnât know you had a new partner. She is nice, though.â That was something you couldn't deny. It still didnât alleviate you feeling off about the entire situation. âOh, I see Donna. Iâm gonna go say hi. I havenât seen her in what feels like forever.â You excused yourself, rushing to talk to her.Â
Chuckling, Dean watched you go, sipping his beer.Â
A couple weeks later, you were lounging when Mary texted you. Up for some shopping with your mother in law? You sighed at her wording. Mary and John were like your second parents, and you adored them. Would you lose them, too?
Always! Let me shower and get ready. Want me to meet you at the mall? You got up, making your way to your room.Â
Iâll pick you up in half an hour :)Â She replied.Â
You felt youâd done well hiding how you were feeling, but when you were in the second store, Mary brought it up. âYou seem to have something on your mind, do you want to talk about it?â She asked, concern lacing her voice. âI can get it if itâs Dean being a cop. I mean, John just retired. Every day I worried about him coming home.âÂ
âI think Iâm losing him.â You admitted, tearing up. Quickly wiping your cheek, you focused on the dresses you were looking at. âI can get long hours, but itâs him feeling gone even when heâs home. He doesnât pull me close anymore, doesnât take me on dates, doesnât surprise me with flowers, or anything. And have you met his new partner?âÂ
Mary shook her head. âNo, Iâve heard heâs good, though.âÂ
â Sheâs gorgeous.â You huffed. âI can barely get him to eat dinner with me, but one night he told me he had to work and just to make dinner for myself. He was at her house with some of the guys hanging out for a couple hours. And having dinner. I hate feeling so insecure and like heâd rather be with her.âÂ
She pulled you into a hug. âDean loves you so much.â She tried. âI donât know whatâs going on with him.âÂ
You hugged her back, welcoming the comfort. âI might go stay with my parents for a few days. I donât think heâd even notice.â Which hurt even worse.Â
âOur house is closer to your job. You can come stay with us.â She pulled back to look at you, hands on your arms. âJohn will love having you around, too.âÂ
After a moment, you nodded. âOkay, sure. Letâs finish up this shopping, and then Iâll go pack a bag. Iâll make dinner tonight. Itâs been a bit since Iâve cooked for anyone but myself.â That alone gave you something to look forward to.Â
Dean got home just after 11 that night, and wasnât surprised to see all the lights off. There was no sign in the first floor of the house that anything was different. He toed off his shoes, hung his belt on the coat rack, and made his way to the kitchen. Sometimes he got lucky and there were leftovers from dinner that night. When he didnât see anything, he assumed that there hadnât been anything left over.Â
After he had a quick sandwich and a glass of milk, he made his way upstairs. He froze when he noticed the bed was still made. You werenât in it. His nightstand lamp was on, and there was a paper folded against it. Walking over to it, he sat on the bed and lifted the paper. Did you leave him? It took him a moment for him to open it.Â
Dean-Â
Iâm staying with your parents for a few days while I do some thinking. Weâve been together almost 7 years. 7 years in two weeks, actually. Did you have any idea that our anniversary was coming up?Â
I barely see you, and when I do? You arenât even *here*. Itâs like youâre somewhere else. When you started working more, I understood. Your job is important, which meant the times you were home would mean more. Instead, those times hurt worse.Â
When was the last time you held me at night? When was the last time you held my hand? Took me on a date? Cuddled with me while watching a movie (even if you fell asleep, I would be over the moon for that time with you)? Â
Do you know how badly it hurt to want you home for dinner now and then, just to find out you went to your new partnerâs for dinner? A new partner I didnât know about, might I add. Youâd rather go spend time with your gorgeous new partner than make it home for one dinner with the woman who has been by your side for everything, and that says a lot.Â
Iâm not saying Iâm leaving you, but I do need to figure some things out.Â
I love you, Dean.Â
-Y/NÂ
He clenched his jaw as tears rolled down his cheeks. Looking back, he knew this wasnât out of left field. He knew what you were talking about. Heâd seen the hurt on your face lately, too. Heâd pushed it away, though. Heâd told himself it was something else. It wasnât about him. Dean sniffed, opening up his night stand drawer to pull out the tiny black box heâd put in there two months prior. Lifting the lid, he looked down at the ring heâd bought you, and wondered if he missed his chance. All he saw when he pictures his life was you by his side, and probably a kid or two. Youâd be a great mom.Â
âFuck.â He breathed. He had an early shift the next day, so heâd go straight to you after work.
It stung when you woke up to no texts or missed calls from Dean. You knew that by now he would have gotten your note. Unless he didnât go home last night . The thought caught you off guard. Heâd never not come home. Even if he came home late. Pushing those thoughts from your head, you got ready for work. You worked at a high end jewelry store, and had been promoted to manager 6 months prior. It paid well, and you liked all the people you worked with.Â
Dean hadnât slept well the night before, and knew heâd be powering through his shift with a lot of (bad) coffee. He also wanted to talk to his chief about cutting back his hours, even just an hour here and there. Anything to be with you more. If he even had you more.Â
It was nearly 4 when he was alerted to a robbery. At your job. âShit!â He flipped on the sirens and lights before speeding off. He was only a few minutes away, but it felt like ages before he pulled up in front of it. He could see through the glass, where you were being held at gunpoint. The only other worker wasnât someone he recognized, so he assumed they were new. What a way to start a job!Â
âIsnât that your girlfriend?â Kelly asked as they parked.Â
âYes, it is.â His voice was betraying him. He was trying to sound calm, but he felt like heâd lose it at any moment. âIâm going around back.â He told her.Â
She whipped her head to look at him. âWhat? Why not wait for backup? Can you even get in?âÂ
âI canât wait and risk her getting shot.â He pulled off his jacket. âAnd I can. I know the code. Sheâs the manager, so she told me.â Did you have a gut feeling heâd need it at some point?Â
âAnd do what in there? I can see the door to the back of the store. Which means he can.â She opened her door to get in place.Â
âI can distract him. Or maybe I can talk him down from inside. The storefront has bullet proof glass. She was really excited when it was installed. Itâs supposed to be basically unbreakable.â He explained.Â
âThis isn't procedure!â She tried. However, she watched him rush around the back, gun drawn. âDamn in, Winchester!â She hissed, hearing other cops arriving.
You were shaking, tears in your eyes, while the man in front of you aimed his gun at you. Youâd heard the cops pull up, but that didnât seem to phase him one bit. Someone must have called, because you didnât even have a chance to trigger the silent alarm. He had to know that there was no getting out of this without being arrested, right?Â
The door next to you busted in, making you and Alice scream. The robber whipped his gun towards the door. The door blocked whoever it was from view, but only a few people had the code. You quickly looked out the front of the store and saw Kelly. But no Dean.Â
Just as it registered that your boyfriend was the one that came in, you heard two gunshots. The robber went down, and you rushed to the door. âDean!â You sobbed, pulling off your blazer to press it against his chest. âOh God.â Moving, you rested his head on your lap as you could hear people rushing into the store.
Dean hissed in pain as you kept pressure on his chest. âFuck, I didnât want to do it like this, but I gotta ask. I love you more than anything. Will you marry me? Your ring is in my nightstand.â He wanted you to know, just in case he didnât make it.Â
You nodded. âOf course Iâll marry you.â The feelings of the past month or so were pushed from your mind. The only thing you could focus on was the fact that Dean had been shot. âI love you so much.â You sniffed.Â
âMaâam, we need to get him into an ambulance.â Came a voice.Â
âYeah, yeah.â You gently moved his head off your lap so you could get out of their way. You watched as they got him onto a stretcher.Â
Youâd stopped at home on the way to the hospital. You wanted to put on your ring, so when Dean woke up, he saw you wearing it. You also knew that you wouldnât be seeing him right away. Mary had already been called, and told you that they would meet you at the hospital.Â
Once there, you didnât keep track of how much time you had been sitting there. All you could do is stare at the double doors that a doctor would come out of to talk to the family of Dean Winchester. John held Maryâs hand, both worried for their eldest. Sam was currently at work- at the police station, oddly enough. There was no telling when Deanâs coworkers would come flooding into the waiting room.Â
âDean Winchesterâs family?â A doctor called out. You, John, and Mary stood. âHi, Iâm Dr. Micheals. Surgery went well, and heâs awake now. Groggy, but awake. For now Iâll ask that you go see him one at a time.â He gave you a comforting smile.Â
âGo.â Mary nudged you. âWeâll see him after.âÂ
Nodding, you followed the doctor to Deanâs room. âThank you.â You said softly before stepping in.Â
âHey, babe.â He smiled.Â
While a few tears had slipped out while you waited, hearing his voice broke the dam. Sobbing, you went over and gently kissed him. âIâm so glad youâre okay.â You cupped his cheek.Â
âYouâre stuck with me. For life.â He gave you that smirk that he knew just melted you. âIâm sorry about this past month. I had planned to talk to the chief after my shift about cutting back my hours some.â He rested his hand on your leg as you sat on the side of his bed. âAnd I know Iâll be on leave while I heal. So, Iâm all yours. Iâm not leaving your side.â
You smiled at that. âAlls forgiven.â You promised him.Â
