Max is half-white, half-Blackfoot/siksika. His mother was Blackfoot and his father was a white settler near the fort he was born at.

He was born around 1820. 

He became Windrunner while he was trying to protect his mother’s tribe (and his) from the fort’s attacking forces. He stopped both sides from killing each other but always stood by the natives in defending their land. He leaned towards diplomatic means and guerrilla warfare because he knew that his people would not survive a direct battle with the white settlers.

Blackfoot is his first language from his mother. He learned English under his father.

He doesn’t like to talk about his past unless strictly necessary. He’s a need-to-know person, partly due to being private in general and partly due to the emotional trauma that he doesn’t like talking about.

He’s trans. He transitioned shortly before becoming Windrunner. 

Max Crandall is his English name. 

Max does not know what a meme is. He does not want to learn what a meme is. Bart constantly texts to him in memes in an effort to teach him.
