And was immediately like, “Haha oh shit!! The Telvanni wouldnt use shit ass wooden doors for their towers! They’d keep THESE babies but GIANT around as a FAR better (and cooler) door method”. Cus think, you can’t just /open/ those doors. You need to be VIP ant material to pass. The telvanni would eat that up.

More thots:

- given that ants rely heavily on pheromones to communicate and identify one another, I can imagine that the ants would be accustomed to the smells of those who regularly worked in the tower (maybe a special variety of bugmusk is used? The Telvanni get Really Good At Magic Perfumes bcause it translates to a solid security system and anybody who wants to break into ur house via the front door needs to be keen on how you make your smells.) and if anybody else showed up that DIDNT smell like that, the ants could raise alarm.

- it’s a clear symbol of status I’d think to have the resources and space to rear giant door ants. Maybe it’s a sign of a truly accomplished wizard? Clearly young towers (i have a hc [I think I dont know if this is canon or not] that essentially boils down to young wizards dont just *get* a tower, they grow one and it grows with them throughout their career as a house mage.) would probably have wooden doors to start with, but after a certain point of guided growth, you could start to accommodate Ants

- Ants being plural is actually a good question as ants are a eusocial insect that never truly revered to being solitary, unlike certain types of wasps and bees, so would the non-ant members of a Telvanni tower suffice as a stand-in for a colony, or would small groups of ants have to be kept to ensure a healthy life?

- I think if the Wizard of a Tower didnt take on the role of training and rearing their own ants (some might be paranoid or are fascinated by the life cycles and habits of the proposed giant turtle ants…) that would mean a whole new profession/set of professions centered around the ants! And that just tickles me :)
