"He's one of the few disabled superheroes. (No, just because he has a prosthesis doesn't mean he's not disabled…)"
no, bucky doesn't count as "representation" because he has a super advanced robotic arm so there's no representation there. stop pretending bucky means anything to anyone when Sam represents real minorities
bucky cap would be a slop. girl, get over it.
Is this ragebait? It has to be, right? By the way of writing I recognize that it is the same anonymous person from the hate against Stucky shping in 2026, and I don't know if anyone is really that stupid or just a bored child.
So I won't get into any arguments, but just say: Yes, this man is disabled.
Yes, it's rage bait. Yes, it's foolish. Yes, when you lose a limb, you've got a disabilit. Having a prosthetic doesn't change that. Folks who lose a leg and have a prosthetic leg are still disabled. You see, Bucky relies on that mechanical arm -- and as with any device or prosthetic, it can break down. It can malfunction. It can get damaged. It won't heal itself. He'll need to hope it can be repaired, and probalby the only people that can repair it are in a country far away. Then there's the issue of pain. Anyone who has had an injury--especially an injury that significant-- knows that pain is an issue. Pain, scar tissue, possible nerve damage...these are all things that Bucky is likely dealing with. Sure, he had the serum at the time of the injury, though it wasn't apparently fully activated. But the serum doesn't make one invincible. Bucky does have scars. We've seen them. The way the prosthetic attaches---that likely causes pain. Now, I'd like to think that the Wakandans used some fancy tech to minimize Bucky's pain, but whenever anything is surgically implanted/attached to one's body, there's stuff that happens. The formation of scar tissue around the area, for example. I speak from experience. So, yeah, Bucky's dealing with stuff that he doesn't broadcast. He's lived with a prosthetic arm, and he's used to pain. After years, the pain is just there. Background noise. Some days it's worse than others. Sometimes his brain ignores it. Other times, he does something and it roars back. He pays the price.
But no matter what, he'll never have his original, flesh and blood arm back. It's gone. He relies on a device that he hopes keeps working, doesn't malfunction, doesn't break, doesn't get damaged, stolen, or reposessed. With a flesh and blood arm, yeah, it can get injured, but flesh heals...especially serum-enhanced flesh. Hell, he broke his right arm at the end of Captain America: TWS (either that or dislocated - not sure which) and it healed. That's the beautiful thing about our bodies. They have self-repairing systems that work pretty darn well...for most things. Yeah, not for everything, but for quite a bit. And then there's the issue of symmetry. If Bucky works out, one arm gets bigger than the other. If he loses weight, one arm is smaller than the other. The Vibranium arm doesn't adapt.
It's also pretty dexterious. We have to assume it has the ability to sense touch, temperature, etc. But does it have the same tactile sensitivies and sophistication of a human hand-arm? Probably not.
Anyone who has lost a limb knows what it feels like to be dependent on technology. On the means to afford the prosthetic or have it provided to you by someone. Then medically fitted/surgically implanted by someone. That's what Bucky had to deal with. He was dependent on other people to design, build, and surgically implant the arm.
And again: What about maintenance? Repairs? Replacements if need be? Yeah, these are no doubt on his mind.
