SUNFLOWERS (Wukong and Dogday)

Wukong saves Dogday from being eaten alive. He uses one of his hairs to give Dogday legs.

Dogday tries teaching Wukong how to read using letter blocks. Dogday worked with children so Wukong should be no different. (Spoiler: Wukong does not want to learn the ABC’s and runs off to escape lessons).

Dogday almost immediately sees Wukong’s violent tendencies and tries his best to calm the rabid monkey down. This usually involves Dogday sitting the monkey down and calmly trying to explain why beating the living daylights out of a screaming toy isn’t very becoming of a monk.

Dogday knows EVERYTHING about Wukong because of the amount of bragging the Great Sage participates in. Dogday knows about his training, his battles, his friends, his master, and even Wukong’s multiple nicknames (‘Brother Sun’, ‘The Great Sage Equal to Heaven’, ‘Handsome Monkey King’, ‘Sun the Novice’, ‘Novice the Sun’, etc.).

Wukong picks fights with EVERYONE; Ms. Delight, Catnap, hell, the Prototype has gotten into a heated discussion with the imprudent creature.

Dogday is Wukong’s conscious, while Wukong just wants to get things over and done with.

A typical encounter with a violent toy usually starts off with Wukong moving forth to attack it only for Dogday to drag him back (or as best as he can, Wukong is extremely heavy).

Dogday reminds Wukong of Sanzang, his mentor, so he’s extremely protective and receptive to Dogday’s advice and quips.

Dogday made Wukong an exact replica of his sun emblem/pendent.

“Your name is Sun, right?”

To give back, Wukong made Dogday a replica of his circlet. He didn’t exactly tell the dog how much he hates wearing it, but if it makes Dogday happy, then Wukong can look past the pain his own gives him. 

Catnap hates Wukong; one, because he stole his prisoner and two, he can’t get said prisoner back. Wukong’s too good at bodyguarding; those fourteen years on the road with Pigsy, Sandy, his master, and the dragon horse made him an impeccable protector.

In fact, nobody can even touch Dogday without getting snatched by the throat by one angry monkey.

Dogday, like Sanzang, has made Wukong softer. It’s interesting to see someone who’s gone through Hell continue to show kindness.

Dogday isn’t helpless. He’s incredibly strong; one swipe can knock one unconscious. He’s just not prone to violence, like some people (WUKONG).

Dogday gets things off high shelves for Short King.

It’s genuinely worrying for Dogday to see a MONK take off a toy’s head with an evil cackle. Aren’t monks supposed to have an inner peace thing?!

Wukong’s actions have managed to make some potential enemies think twice about approaching them.

Dogday honored his deceased friends by finding their emblems and burying them in one place near the school. This was one of the few times Wukong didn’t make any sarcastic jabs.

All in all, it is a very wholesome relationship.

All that working on a farm allows him to pick up 200lbs with one tug and one hand.

In Chapter 50, Sanzang gets nabbed by Great King Rhinoceros. The King not only takes Wukong's staff, but also Nehza's weapons. He manages to survive the Thunder Gods, a few Star Lords, and even Buddah's golden cinnabar sand by using his Diamond Jade Bangle to capture their attacks.

This keeps going until Wukong's just had enough of this charade and throws hands with the Rhino, steals his staff back, sets his cave on fire, and finally, karens his way to Lord Lao Zi, who turns the King into a buffalo and runs him back home.

And this is just the aftermath; with Nehza sick and tired of running around for this darn monk and his minions, and Sanzang safe and sound (for now).

One of the first times on this journey where Wukong gets his ass kicked.
