Isla Chata, flat island. While some went surfing I was left with the desert at my back and this island between the Pacific Ocean and me. Barely an island, it is a sanctuary for marine wildlife. Sadly access is too easy for humans, and it's "sanctity" is trespassed too often by opportunists. Another volcano and 3 lakes within sight from the edge of the ash fields. To get from one side to the other of the Caulle valley one must ride through the uppermost part, a desert in the jungle. It could be a lush forest but constant volcanic eruptions keep replenishing the soil of sterile ash. Still you see life regaining it's grasp everywhere. One of the many times we got lost with my grandfather in the mountains. Looking for a route to a geyser we could only see from afar. It would take two more trips, a crazy companion and a ton of luck for us to finally reach it. Here we where following a nameless river and we stumbled Ok, tráelo this waterfall and it's smaller twin. "Paine Grande" mountain. The sun is finally down, the heat is receding. What should have been a 6 hour walk ended up being 12 hours dragging our feet under the unforgiving sun. We where not expecting 31°C without wind at this latitudes. Though this was nothing for @jcamenabarl who was like the hare in the turtle and the hare story. He was so fast he even took a nap waiting for us. Upon waking up assumed we had walked by without seeing him. So he ran to the next camp site... The problem was that we where still way behind. A few minutes before finally encountering him I took this picture. Grey Glacier flowing into the Grey Lake on a windy gray day. A must-see if you visit Torres del Paine. This glacier is the southernmost outlet of "Campos de hielo Sur" one of the biggest ice fields in the world outside Antarctica, if not the biggest.
