I’d never “slobber” after someone because I want babies of a different ethnicity. I find Oscar Isaac attractive just like I find Sebastian Stan or John Boyega attractive, just as I find Daisy Ridley or Lupita Nyong’o attractive.

I love finnrey with all my heart, I started off as a finnrey shipper but then Rian Johnson made finnrose happen.

Jon Snow is FOURTEEN years old here. FOURTEEN. What follows comes from a careful reading of the text and an “Identifying Abuse” workshop I am required to attend as a licensed teacher and mandated reporter.

The refusal to acknowledge someone’s presence or use their name is a form of verbal and emotional abuse. It is meant to strip an individual of their identity, to make them feel less than human. It’s supposed to indicate that the individual isn’t worthy of a name or someone’s time.

Yes, yes, that’s an excellent reaction.

It shouldn’t be expected that Catelyn Stark would be a mother to Jon Snow, nor do I think he wants her to be a mother to him. Perhaps he did once– pre-school teachers will tell you; children love to look for motherly or parental love and attention throughout the day. But reading the text, it is clear to see that Jon does not require Catelyn’s “motherly love.”

That is not the issue here. The issue is that Catelyn denies Jon basic human respect, and a basic human quality, like a name.

While it is true that we have no idea how other noblewomen would react to having their husband’s bastard raised alongside their heirs, the reaction to this particular type of treatment of said bastard should be the same across the board: it is wrong.

Catelyn Tully’s husband “cheated” on her. Jon Snow has done nothing to her. She has misplaced her anger at Ned, and redirected it to another target who cannot fight back. Ned can have her set aside (not that the text indicates that he would) and Ned can have her silenced, so she projects any anger she has over Ned’s perceived infidelity onto the only tangible proof she has: Jon Snow. That is another trait of an emotionally abusive situation. This projection of anger often leaves the abused with the sense that “nothing they do is ever good enough.” If their abuser mistreats them for something they didn’t do, then anything they do is subject to criticism. It breeds a sense of fear in the individual. Indeed,

“Once that would have sent him running. Once that might even have made him cry. Now it only made him angry. He would be a Sworn Brother of the Night’s Watch soon, and face worse dangers than Catelyn Tully Stark.” (Jon, AGoT, 98). 

At fourteen, Jon has stopped being cowed by Catelyn, but this indicates the fear and frustration he must have felt as a child. Her treatment of him drove him to tears. Is making a child cry really something to be lauded? Again, this kind of behavior from any character, any man or woman, would be reprehensible. He was a child. 

These are only small examples, and it ignores the implications of telling someone that it should have been them who had a near fatal accident, which is another form of emotional/verbal abuse. (For those unclear, telling someone that they should die is abusive. Imagine that). 

It shouldn’t matter who the character is: abuse is abuse.

People can publish all sorts of posts about motivations. People can say “We don’t know how others would have reacted!” People can say “If only Ned Stark had told her the truth.”

Does any of that matter? The fact is, Catelyn Stark verbally and emotionally abused Jon Snow. If she was angry at Ned for his perceived infidelity, then she should have dealt with Ned, not belittled a child.  By saying that readers need to look into her “motivations,” for these actions, such as fear of Jon displacing her heirs for Winterfell, then I hope you understand that you’re suggesting that abusive behavior can sometimes be excused based on the motives and fears of the abuser.

No. Abuse is never the fault of the victim.

It does not matter which character, abuse is abuse. In a series where Gregor Clegane and Ramsay Snow exist, Catelyn Stark is far from a villain. She is by all accounts a good wife and mother to her children. But that is the scary truth of verbal and emotional abuse: sometimes it can come from people, who on the surface, or to others, are really and truly great. Sometimes an abusive person is amazing to everyone else, except the abused.

That does not, and should not, give them a “pass” for being abusive.

She abused him. End of story.

Why not Ice and Fire? It would make way much sense (and would be easier) for the twitter team to put Ice and Fire…

1. Both bring their sigil animals, believed to be extinct, back to the game. Jon is the one to convince Ned to save the pups, and he found Ghost himself. Dany literally brought dragons back.

2. Both start as secondary characters, underastimated and both gradually came to being leaders and one of the most iconic characters in both the show and TV as a whole.

3. Both are the underestimated sibling. Jon as a bastard, Dany as a female. Both looked down upon by their family members. 

4. Despite being the undestimated one, Jon is said to have more of North in him than any of his siblings. Tyrion was the one who said that to him, I believe. And Dany ends up being the dragon, so more of a Targaryen or a Valyrian in a way than Viserys.

5. Their first loves died in their arms.

6. What’s also interesting about that ^ is that Drogo dies because of the witch and Dany in books is sure that was the first betrayal she had the vision about, and Ygritte is killed by Olly, who later betrays Jon.  Ygritte in books isn’t killed by Olly, but still by men who end up betraying him. And again, both Ygritte and Drogo were savages, both killed by people who the savages have hurt

7. Both are believed to be The Prince Who Was Promised. They are the two main theories, for sure. And both kinda fit, but not entirely. But when you think about them as whole…They fit much more.

So three things that can be considered to be about  Dany in two sentences. And the thing about Jon not smelling the sweetness, which some antis point out, is obvious. He is the sweetness.
