This blog is dedicated to the Image ID Project. Asks are always open.
What is the Image ID Project?
The Image ID Project is a project dedicated to providing the knowledge, tools, and resources to members of the liom, mogai, and adjacent communities to assist them in making their posts more accessible to the entire community by providing image IDs.
What will this blog post?
This blog will post tips, tricks, and helpful info surrounding creating image IDs. It will also be posting ID templates for flags that have been created by the community.
What are image IDs and why are they important?
Image IDs, put simply, are a description of an image. They allow people using screen readers to access posts by providing necessary context from images, which screen readers cannot do by themselves. It is the community's responsibility to foster a welcoming environment for all, doing so by providing both plain text and image IDs for all possible posts.
What is a screenreader?
A screen reader is a piece of technology that reads out the words on screen. They are used by many different people to read content and navigate services. You can read more about screen readers here(link) and here(link).
Who does this project benefit?
Everyone! Have you ever been in a situation where images won't load? An image ID would help you to understand the context of the post without it. Accessibility benefits everyone, whether or not you immediately see the impacts.
Who runs this project?
You may call me Creature. I use it / its. I am currently the only person working on this project, though this may change if the project grows in scale.
How can you help or contribute?
The best way that you can help with this project is by sharing it with others! Currently, I am not looking for direct contributors, but if you see a flag that hasn't been posted with an ID, or isn't on this(link) page, feel free to send it in (with the respective coining post) via an ask or through Tumblr DMs.
Can you request ID templates?
Yes! They won't always be posted right away, but I will try to prioritise the templates that people are requesting.
