it starts with a spark, a warm evening in hueningkai’s apartment. you’re both sprawled on the couch, legs tangled, his fingers absentmindedly brushing through your hair as you talk about everything and nothing at all. somehow, the conversation turns to the future—your future, together. it feels natural, so easy, to imagine what comes next for the two of you.
“i think they’d have your smile,” you murmur, fingers tracing lazy circles on his chest.
hueningkai’s brow arches in playful curiosity. “who?”
“our baby.” you say it as if the words are second nature, as if you’ve thought about it a hundred times before, the idea living just beneath the surface of your mind, waiting for the right moment to slip out.
he grins, a flush of warmth spreading across his face as his eyes soften. “our baby? we’re going there already?” his tone is teasing, but there’s something genuine in the way he says it—like he’s entertained the idea too. maybe not seriously, but enough to wonder.
you laugh, nudging him gently. “come on, i know you’ve thought about it.”
kai leans in closer, his breath warm against your ear. “okay, fine. they’d have your eyes, though. you know how everyone gets lost in them.”
you roll your eyes but can’t help the smile that curls at your lips. “maybe your sense of humor. or that laugh that makes everyone feel like they’re in on the best joke.”
he chuckles softly, the sound reverberating through you, making you feel safe, like this moment is all that matters. for a brief second, you let yourself really imagine it—a child with kai’s smile, your eyes, a perfect mix of the two of you. your little family. it feels distant, but close enough to touch.
the conversation continues, and for a while, it’s a sweet fantasy. the kind you both laugh about, adding details like what kind of music they’d like, if they’d be shy like kai or a bit more outgoing like you. it feels like the future is full of endless possibilities, and for that moment, you both indulge in the dream.
but time passes, and dreams start to fade.
the little cracks in your relationship begin to show. you argue more, the weight of your lives and schedules tugging at you from opposite ends. kai’s work pulls him away—he’s busy, distant. you find yourself retreating into your own space, too, where it’s easier not to feel the gap growing between you. the nights on the couch, laughing and dreaming, grow less frequent, replaced with quiet, uneasy silences.
one night, the argument bubbles over—about something insignificant, but it’s enough to shatter what’s left of the warmth you used to share.
“you always do this!” you yell, your voice cracking. “you push me away like you don’t even care anymore!”
kai’s face is a mask of frustration, but behind it, you see the same exhaustion, the same hurt you’re feeling. “i’m trying! do you think i want this? i’m overwhelmed, and i—” he cuts himself off, shaking his head. “i just… i don’t know how to fix this.”
it’s in that moment you realize what you’ve been avoiding—things aren’t working, and no matter how much you both care, you’re slipping through each other’s fingers. the dreams you built together, the child you imagined, the future you thought was certain—it all starts to fade, like smoke dissipating into the air.
the breakup happens quietly, the kind of thing you both saw coming but never wanted to acknowledge. he leaves, and the space he once occupied feels colder than it should. you know it’s for the best, but the ache in your chest doesn’t lessen with time. you keep thinking about what could have been—what *almost* was.
weeks later, you find yourself staring at the ceiling in your darkened room, memories flooding back. you think about the nights you talked about your future, how you and kai would laugh and plan a life that now feels impossibly far away. you wonder about the baby you imagined—would they have had his smile, your eyes? would they have filled the spaces between you, made everything worth it?
the thought lingers, a quiet pain that settles into your bones. the reality of your breakup stings, but it’s the loss of that dream—the one where you and kai made a life together—that keeps you awake at night.
you hate it. you hate that you let yourself believe in something that was never meant to last. but you can’t let go of it, not completely. because no matter how much time passes, the idea of what you could have had together remains, a bittersweet reminder of a future you’ll never see.
you close your eyes and imagine it one last time—a child with kai’s soft smile and your curious eyes, laughter filling a home that was once yours. a life that was almost yours.
IN WHICH ✶ — Rumors about Y/n pursuing a Zerobaseone member backstage at music bank start floating around the media after she and ZB1 member, Kim Gyuvin are seen talking behind in one of the episodes of ‘Eunchaes Star Diary’. Some netizens believe it and some don’t, some hated her for touching his shoulder and some didn’t care. Y/n went live to debunk the rumors, saying she wasn’t interested in a relationship at the time. The thing was, the rumors were true. She secretly was pursing Kim Gyuvin, or at least she wanted to. Ever since she first saw him backstage at M Countdown when ‘Love Killa’ team got to perform she was starstruck. She saw him at the vending machine and wished him luck in ‘Boys Planet’. She actually never had watched an episode of the survival show at all, she said it would be too painful for her, but that was the night she started to watch and most importantly, vote for Kim Gyuvin.

warnings — reader is having trouble falling asleep.
words — 0.5k
2 am.
he said not to wait for him, you did everything but still, you can’t sleep.
it was supposed to be comfortable, the ac is already enough to make you feel cold and the fresh duvet from the laundry smells like lavender to make you fall asleep. but nothing.
you keep on tossing and turning, the lampshade on your side table gives you light to read the time on your alarm clock and your phone was quiet. no notifications, no unread messages, and missed calls. your boyfriend didn’t want to disturb you. he knew it was an exhausting day and he wanted you to rest. having a good sleep can help relieve your stress, but the reality is, that you can’t keep your eyes closed for at least five minutes.
you needed your boyfriend to come home.
“i’ll be home probably after midnight.” he sent a text. “so don’t wait for me.” another message said.
a frustrated sigh escaped from your lips, staring at the beige-colored ceiling as you heard the door open outside your room. you live in an apartment building, and the lock is loud enough to make you aware if someone just arrived or left the room. it was minho coming from practice. you jumped out of bed and went outside to welcome him,
“baby,” he called, seeing you. “i thought you went to sleep?” he asked, wrapping his arms around your back for a squeeze.
“i can’t sleep,” you said as he sighed in response.
“i’ll make you some tea then we’ll go to sleep, okay?” he said placing a soft kiss on your lips before proceeding to the small kitchen.
“how was work?” you asked as he got busy.
“the usual,” he smiled. “we’re preparing for the tour, you’ll go with me right?” he asked, boiling some water on the stove.
“of course,” you smiled in response. “good luck, by the way, i’ll be with the crowd, watching.”
“yeah, you should join them crying and screaming too.” he chuckled as he pours the hot water on the mug and placed a tea bag inside
“make sure to expect it.” you answered as he handed you the cup.
“drink this. i’ll just wash up first so we can go to sleep, hm?”
“hmm,” you hummed in response, taking a few gulps from the cup as he kissed your forehead. the warm drink relieved your system as you waited for your boyfriend to step out of the bathroom. washing the cup on the sink, minho came out in his pajamas with his hair dripping wet. he dried his purple locks in a hurry and carried you in bridal style as you enter the bedroom.
“you didn’t have to carry me,” you said as your boyfriend tucked you in,
“i do what i want to do,” he responded, pecking your lips as he lies beside you under the duvet.
“you’re so sweet,” you smiled.
“only to you,” minho pulled you closer to his body to hug you again as he started to caress your hair, trying to help you fall asleep, and your body felt at ease. “good night sweetheart, i’ll see you in the morning,” he smiled, placing another soft kiss on your lips.
“good night, baby”
not a few minutes, your eyes felt heavy and you didn’t realize you fell asleep. minho kissed your forehead and whispered a tiny ‘good night’ before going to sleep, with you in his arms.

High School was supposed to be easy. It was supposed to be fun and torture all at the same time. A time where getting caught sneaking out was the most you had to worry about.
“Come on Y/n! Everyone’s going” your best friend San whined as he clung to your arm. This is how it always went. San would run up to you in the hallway and beg you to go to whatever party was happening that weekend. You told yourself you always said yes because you just couldn’t say no to your adorable best friend, but the truth was you enjoyed the rush of sneaking out. The absolute relief you felt when you were either drunk or high, (or both) forgetting about any problems you had to worry about. “San-” “I already know you’re gonna cave eventually, let’s just cut the middle man this time, Y/n” “I- fine, I’ll go” “Yes!” San cheered, wrapping his arm around your shoulder and pulling you close, already rambling on about how much fun the two of you were going to have.
You would’ve enjoyed that party a bit more if you knew what was to come.
--
Carefully walking through the rundown convenience store, you shoved anything that might be useful into your backpack: canned food, water bottles, bandages, ibuprofen, pad and tampons, and by some miracle, your favorite candy. It had been awhile since you had anything to eat that tasted decent. You were excited to eat it, almost tearing into it right then and there, but instead you opted to just toss it into your bag and wait till you were somewhere safer.
Right as you were about to walk out you saw the bushes rustling a bit too much for it to be a bird or squirrel. You quickly threw yourself behind a wall before whatever was there could see you, clutching onto your bat tightly. You had only come face to face with the fleet once before and you weren’t exactly eager to see them again.
The fleet were aliens. Their ship came down seemingly out of nowhere, announcing their new claim over this planet and consequently, us. It was like something straight out of a movie, crazy aliens come down and try to enslave the entirety of the human race. You never thought something like this would ever happen, that aliens were made up by Hollywood just to make movies and sell merchandise, yet here you were. They took over the major cities first, quickly moving outward to more rural areas. You were one of the lucky ones who managed to slip away from them, not unscaved though. They left you with a nasty scar that ran from your shoulder to your hip.
Taking a deep breath, you prepared yourself to either run or fight, the former the more favorable option of the two. You heard footsteps getting closer until they were right next to you. Fight it is then. Taking a grounding breath, you gripped your bat tightly. You jumped out, bat ready to come down and strike the sick alien bastards but it was stopped by a surprised shriek.
“Yunho? What the hell I could’ve hurt you! What are you doing sneaking around like that?” Yunho scoffed at your question, looking up at you from his place on the floor where you had scared him to. “I just like to sneak around Y/n, it’s not like I’m hiding from tyrannical aliens.” “Right, sorry.” Lowering your bat, you extend your hand to help him up. It was nice to see a familiar face, even if it was your ex boyfriend.
You and Yunho had a rather long history together. The two of you silently but not so secretly pining over each other all throughout middle school, then finally dating in freshman year all the way up until the summer before senior year. Disagreements about colleges and arguments over a possible long distance relationship eventually tore you two apart. Before that though, you were positive that Yunho was it for you. Crazy how things change.
“So what was your plan, to beat one of the fleet to death with a bat?” “I mean… yeah” Yunho shook his head at you, walking past you and into the store. “How have you survived this long” “same way I got through junior year, pure luck.” Yunho couldn’t stop the chuckle that left his lips. It amazed him how even during all this, you were still the same witty girl he remembered. He would be lying if he said he didn’t think about you during all this. He often found himself thinking about you and wondering if you had escaped the fleet, wondering if you were alive. It was good to see you again.
“So, where you headed now?” You asked as you followed him around the store, handing him things he needed as he shoved them into his bag. “Not sure, I’ll figure it out though.” You nodded, watching him as he kept his gaze from ever meeting yours. Ouch. After being alone for so long, you wanted to ask if you could go with him, tell him that the two of you could figure out where to go together, but seeing him so adamantly avoiding eye contact, you thought maybe it would be better to go your separate ways again.
Yunho finished gathering all he needed, finally turning to look at you. You froze for a minute, finally having time to take in his appearance. He had definitely changed, he had a scar that slit through his eyebrow, and his eyes… his eyes were colder. His eyes used to be so bright and full of joy and life, now they were empty, as though windows into a hollow shell.
He noticed that you had changed too, but not the same way as him. You were still as bright as ever, but your smile was gone. The smile he loved so much was now absent, like it was never there.
“So, see you around?” Yunho just tilted his head to the side, giving you a strange look before snorting. “Your luck won’t last forever doll, it’s better to be with someone who knows what they're doing” Yunho then started walking off, leaving you to stand there and process his words. “You gonna stand there all day?” Quickly shaking your head, you jogged over to him, taking your stop slightly behind him as you followed him to wherever he was leading you.
--
You walked for about an hour and a half before you had reached a run down house in the outskirts of town. “You're staying here” you asked as he led you into the place, “for now” he shrugged. You looked around the place, it was small and messy, but you could tell it used to be homey. Pictures on the wall were already faded and their frames dusty, and there were crayon marks on the wall right next to the tv. You walked further in and saw some cute drawings on the fridge, one of a family of four with a little dog and cat stood out, being proudly displayed at the top. You really hoped this family was okay, that these kids were still safe with their parents, not worrying about being taken away or even killed.
Yunho watched as you examined the house, watching you delicate fingers run softly over the drawings on the fridge, a frown making its way onto your face. He knew exactly what was going through your head, though he hadn’t thought about it much, not having the luxury of compassion much these days. He envied your compassion, he always had, but even more so now. It was almost as if you had been unaffected by this whole situation, staying the same, sweet, caring person you always had been while he had turned into some cold monster he didn’t even recognize anymore.
“You hungry?” Yunho quickly cut off his thoughts with a question, plopping himself down onto the relatively nice couch as he unzipped his bag. You snapped yourself out of your thoughts and turned to look at Yunho. “I could eat” you said nonchalantly, trying to push the thoughts of what happened to this unknown family.
Plopping down on the floor in front of the coffee table, across from Yunho, you pulled open your bag. “I got-” you were cut off when you were hit with two granola bars. You looked up with a questioning look but Yunho was already busying himself with opening his own granola bar. “Thank you.”
The two of you sat in silence as you tried to savor your little bars as much as you could. There was so much you wanted to talk to Yunho about, Yunho on the other hand only had one thing he wanted to say to you, both of you had no idea where to start. So instead, you let the silence linger as you trapped yourself in your own head to figure out what to say.
Where were you going to start? You had no idea. One part of you wanted to just sit and talk to him for hours about stupid stuff just like you would do when you were younger. The other part wanted to ask him if he regretted it. If he regretted leaving you. If he regretted giving up. However, you don’t think your heart could handle his answer right now.
“Do you think beavers survived all this” you asked out of nowhere, lifting your head to look up at him. His face twisted in confusion as he looked at you. “What?” “Do you think beavers survived? I mean, I haven’t seen any-” “when have you ever seen a beaver?” You paused, “huh. Never I guess- Wait! Are beavers even real?” Yunho couldn’t do anything but stare at you for a moment. Thinking back to earlier, he was definitely envious of you, of how you could be so light hearted during a time like this. Memories of the two of you having endless late night talk in the bed of his truck flowed through his mind. Those were some of his favorite memories, back when it felt like you and him were the only two people in the world. Past him would’ve entertained this for a good thirty minutes just to see you giggle at his counter arguments. Now? He couldn’t even think of anything to rebuttal with.
“Yes Y/n, beavers are real.” Yunho stated simply. His quick, dismissive tone made you instantly regret opening your mouth. He had dismissed you just as everyone else had done so many times before. Yunho watched as your shoulders dropped, your gaze falling to the ground as you fiddled with your fingers. “Right, sorry” you spoke in a soft, dejected tone that made Yunho’s heart clench. Good one dickhead, his inner voice reprimanded him. “I mean, now that I think about it… I’ve never seen a beaver.” He was quick to add. “Right! Or a platypus! How do we know they're real!?” Yunho couldn’t help but smile when he saw you were quick to go straight back to your usual, upbeat self. Even if it was a bit harder for him to come up with ridiculous things to say to counter you than it used to be, he still tried.
A good 15 minutes later and the conversation of beavers and playapi had finally died down, a new conversation topic taking its place. “Do you remember the first time you snuck out?” Yunho asked, looking at you with a fond smile. “You mean the first time you kidnapped me?” Yunho rolled his eyes, earning a giggle from you. “You wanted to get out of that house as much as I wanted to take you away” Yunho argued, and he was right. You hated being home, not that you would call it that. It was a cold, hostile environment, the only time you were really home was to sleep.
“Sure, anyways, what about it?” “Your dad was so mad at me when I brought you home” he spoke with a laugh as he remembered the memory. “You think he was hard on you? Dude he was brutal on me” you said with a forced laugh, pushing the memory of your angry father away as fast as it came. “It was worth it though” “Oh yeah?” Yunho hummed in response, “of course, cause I was with you.” It was unexpected and it made your stomach do a flip and your heart flutter out of control. Quickly turning your wide eyed gaze down. “You’re still a flirt” you dismissed with a half assed laugh. Yunho bit his lip to keep his smile at bay as he looked over your flustered form, he forgot how much he loved to make you blush. “Only for you” “boy am I beat” you quickly changed the subject, which only amused him further. He decided to go easy on you for now, figuring he had plenty of time to tease you later. “Bedrooms the last door at the end of the hallway” you nodded, quickly grabbing your backpack and disappearing into the back.
--
You had barely fallen asleep before Yunho was shaking you awake. “What” you asked groggily, wanting nothing more than to ignore him and go back to sleep. “We need to leave, now” “What- now?” Yunho helped you up out of bed, quickly tossing you your bag before dragging you out of the room. “Yunho what’s going on?” You asked, sleep still very much evident in your voice, your eyes fighting to stay open as you tried to rub the sleep out of them. “People” “people?” You hadn’t seen another person since this had all started, you were completely alone for two years until you saw Yunho again yesterday. You had no idea why Yunho was in such a hurry to get the two of you out of there.
Yunho silenced you with a quick, “keep quiet” before dragging you outside. You two tried to remain unseen, sticking to the sides of houses and behind fences. Trusting Yunho was easy for you, but not knowing what was going on made you nervous and uneasy. Why were you running away, couldn’t these people help you? You got your answer in the form of a gunshot ringing out in the silent air. Yunho quickly looked back at you to make sure you were okay, but he was met with your wide, scared eyes. He had to get you out of there fast. He immediately looked around for a safe spot to get you to, but the only thing he saw was the truck these looters had shown up in. It was extremely risky, too risky. He couldn’t risk putting you in that type of danger, but if he didn’t even try, you two were going to die anyway. With the looters getting closer to where you currently were. Yunho took in a deep breath, pulling out his gun from his waistband, praying he wouldn’t have to use it in front of you. Your eyes got even wider at the sight of Yunho holding a gun. He didn’t even want to see the way you were looking at him, afraid it would be full of hatred and distrust. He was afraid you would stop seeing him as the person he used to be.
“We’re going to make a run for their truck, can you do that?” He asked, still not looking at you as he scanned the path way to the truck. You did the same looking from Yunho to the truck… there was no one at the truck, but the moment you start running you would immediately become targets. You quickly pulled Yunho’s hand into yours, squeezing it tightly as you nodded. There was no other way out and you didn’t want to be a sitting duck.
Yunho finally looked down at you, seeing you looking up at him with a mix of fear and determination. Squeezing your hand tighter, he asked, “ready?” With a nod from you, you two were off. Yunho kept his gun clutched tightly in his hand and his grip on your hand was even tighter.
It took the looters less than a second to see you. Their yells were drowned out at the sound of guns being fired left and right. Your heart was beating out of your chest, your eyes watering in fear as you pushed yourself to run faster. Bullet after bullet whizzed by your head, nearly hitting you more times than you were comfortable with. When you finally reached the truck, Yuno was quick to open the door and rush you in before he ran to the drivers side and quickly put the car into drive. The looters reached the truck right when Yunho started driving off. The banging of their hands and guns against the truck was all you could hear, their deranged faces screaming at you as they tried to break the glass. Once Yunho finally floored the gas, the looters backed away, settling for shooting at the truck instead, but you were long one before they could do any real damage.
Heavy breathing were the only sounds that filled the car as you tried to calm yourself down. Why were they shooting at you guys? Didn’t everyone have enough to deal with, with the fleet trying to kill all humans? You didn’t understand it.
Your thoughts were cut short when you heard a Yunho groan. You looked at him for the first time since you got into the truck and you hated what you saw. His shirt was slowly becoming more and more drenched with his own blood. “Oh my god Yunho!” “I’m fine” he swatted you off, focusing on getting you as far away from the looters as possible. You couldn’t stop the fear that flooded your whole body. You had only seen a handful of people die the day you escaped the fleet, believing that you yourself was going to die as well, and some sick twisted part of you was fine with it, but you could not see Yunho die.
“You have to pull over” “No.” “Yes! You’re hurt, we need to-” “Y/n, we’ll deal with it later, okay? Let’s just put some more distance between us and them.” You didn’t like his answer, wanting to help him now before he lost any more blood. “Yunho-” “Drop it Y/n, I’m not stopping.” Rolling your eyes, you didn’t push him anymore, but you did reach over, pressing your hand firmly on his wound. “What the fuck Y/n” he hissed at you, swerving a bit from the pain. “You’re not gonna stop, fine, but I’m not letting you lose anymore blood.” Yunho didn’t say anything else, allowing you to keep pressure on his wound, despite how bad it hurt. You were shaking, tears in your eyes as you tried your best to seem unphased by all this, and Yunho hated it. He didn’t want you worrying about him, he didn’t want you to feel scared or vulnerable. He wanted to keep you safe. Taking one hand off the wheel, he placed it on top of yours, rubbing the back of your hand reassuringly.
--
You didn’t stop for nearly two hours, and it bothered the shit out of you. Yunho insisted that he needed to get father every time you asked when you were stopping. When you finally did stop, you were out of the truck in a second, rushing over to his side to help him clean up his wound. Yunho didn’t say anything or do anything to stop you, allowing you and your nimble fingers to carefully bandage him up.
“Do you know how fucking stupid you are” you muttered under your breath as you finished bandaging him up. Yunho didn’t reply, of course he knew what he did was dumb, the cold sweat building up and him and the on coming shakes he felt was a reminder of that. He didn’t care though, it was worth it to him as long as you were safe. Once you were completely finished you took a step back, eyeing him over for a moment before scoffing. “Get out of the truck” “what?” “get out” “Y/n-” “you’re not driving like this.” The tone of your voice was one that left no room for argument. Your eyes and nose were red from the tears you had fought back the entire time Yunho had driven you two away from the looter. And while it broke Yunho’s heart to see you upset, some sick part of him was relieved to know you still cared about him.
Finally complying, Yunho got out of the truck, stumbling a bit but you were quick to catch him. You quickly helped him into the other side of the truck, but before you went to get into the driver's seat, Yunho grabbed you by your wrist and pulled you closer. His intense gaze set your whole body one fire as you tried your best to ignore the lack of space between you. “Thank you” his breath hit your face, sending your heart into a frenzy as your mind drifted back to the countless times you and Yunho had been this close in the past. Your heart was begging you to lean in, to feel his lips against yours once again just like you had craved.
You quickly pulled away from him, taking in a deep breath to ground yourself. “You can thank me by keeping yourself alive” you mumbled before shutting his door. your voice was barely above a whisper, but he heard you, a small smile making its way onto his face.
--
“We can’t keep doing this Yunho.” You were tired, your voice sounding as weak and pathetic as you looked, with tears falling from your puffy eyes down your red cheeks. Yunho just scoffed at you, tears of his own glazing over his eye. You both knew you couldn’t go on like this, constantly fighting to the point where you barely saw each other just to prevent fights. “So what? Are you breaking up with me?” “No! I don’t know… maybe we should.” Hearing those words leave your trembling lips, Yunho seemed to sober up quickly. He felt as if you had just punched him in the face with just a few words. “Maybe we should.” He repeated, his eyes now focusing on the carpet of his bedroom. The pain that surged through Yunho’s whole body as those words left his mouth almost brought him to his knees. He was still so in love with you, and he knew that you loved him too, so why were the two of you giving up so easily? “I- I should go” you quickly said, he could practically hear the sob building and waiting to escape your throat. His whole body ached to reach out and hold you, to pull you close and apologize for everything and never let you go, but he didn’t. He did nothing as you rushed past him and out of his room.
“Hey, wake up” the sound of your voice quickly brought Yunho out of his sleep. Remnants of the dream- memory still heavy on his heart. That was the last time you two had spoken before the fleet came. He had so many regrets from that day, he should’ve stopped you, he should’ve-
“Yo! Earth to idiot. Anyone in there?” You knocked on Yunho’s forehead, finally getting him to snap out of his trance. He rolled his eyes, turning to look at you, “What” you nodded your head towards the windshield. “A motel?” Yunho asked. He turns to you, seeing you taking the key out of the ignition and jumping out of the truck. He let out a small groan and carefully pulled himself out of the truck.
The parking lot was all torn up. There were potholes the size of cars, blast marks and ash all over the ground and the sides of the building. All life had been stripped away from this place. The building, which had obviously been an obnoxious, bold blue was now faded to an almost bluish grey color. All surrounding plants were now lifeless and charred. The fleet had obviously been here.
“Nice place huh?” You joked, wrapping your arm around his waist carefully. “Y/n we can’t stay here” “sure we can, I’ve been staying here for months.” Yunho looked down at you incredulously, but you didn’t bother looking back at him, you already knew what he was going to say and you didn’t care for it. You started leading him toward one of the rooms, being very mindful of the holes and debris. “It’s dangerous” the two of you said at the same time. You could practically feel Yunho rolling his eyes. “We’ll be fine” you assured him right before reaching the door. “Welcome to mi casa” you said, a wide smile on your face as you kicked open the door.
The place was way cleaner on the inside than outside, Yunho would give you that. It was filled with posters you probably found in the garbage or got on your supply trips and candles, most of them were almost nearing their end. There was also a desk in the far left corner of the room that had a mess of wires, circuit boards, and a ton of other things Yunho didn’t know. What shocked Yunho most was the large brown dog that came running out of what he assumed to be the bathroom and went straight to you.
“Yun!” You exclaimed, helping Yunho to the bed before kneeling down to pet the insanely large thing. The dog was way bigger than you, hell it was probably the same size as Yunho if it were to stand up, maybe even taller. It took a minute for Yunho to process what you had just called the dog, and once he did he couldn’t help but let his mouth fall a gape in a smile.
“Yun?” He questioned. “Well yeah, look at him. You’re practically the same,” Yunho scoffed, “I am nothing like a dog.” Yunho watched the smirk that came to your face as you shrugged, “if you say so” “I do say so” “okayyy.” The sing-song tone of your voice made him roll his eyes, huffing in defeat.
Yunho watched as you opened up a cooler you had stashed right next to your desk and pulled out some bread and cheese. He couldn’t stop from his eyes bulging out of his head as he felt his mouth begin to water. You had been doing alright for yourself after all.
“I found this at some brewery about a week ago. Well actually Yun found it.” You shrugged as you plopped yourself next to Yunho onto the bed and ripped him a decent size piece and gave him the cheese. “Do you usually bring Yun with you on supply runs.” “Yeah, I left him home for this last one cause it was supposed to be in and out.” You shrugged, breaking off a piece of bread for Yun.
Yunho couldn’t help but smile as he watched you and this dog, he was glad to know you weren’t completely alone all this time. Also, knowing you named a dog, your only companion after him made his heart swell a bit.
After you guys had eaten enough, you quickly redid Yunho’s bandages and helped him under the covers. Now that he was off the road, he couldn’t help but relax a bit, and that’s when the real pain of his wound hit him. As soon as his head hit the pillow he was ready to sleep, but he couldn’t, not just yet.
“Y/n” “hm” you asked, kneeling by the bed after you had gotten him in. Yunho grabbed your hand, pulling it to his lips as he took in a shaky breath. “I shouldn’t have let you leave.” His confession caught you off guard, hitting your chest like a ton of bricks. “Yunho-” “don’t say anything… Just know, I’m not gonna let you go so easily again.” “I won’t let you go either” a soft smile found its way onto your face as you felt real hope for the first time in a long time. “Can I hold you” “you’re hurt-” “please.” Not being able to resist, you laid down on his good side, resting your head on his chest and relishing in the feeling of being in his arms again. No words were exchanged after that, they weren’t needed. Just being in each other's arms was enough.
