For non-dnd players, and I cannot stress this enough, Pix is an insanely talented dm. To introduce brand new players to dnd like he did is impressive. He introduced the mechanics bit by bit. The training room was a literal training room so that they could go through attacking (and make sure they know what spell slots are), the foreshadowing with the goblin attack, the druid wild-shape, the short rest. It was all orchestrated so that little bits of the mechanics could be explained in an interactive and easily digestible way, and establishing at the start that he doesn't expect them to be perfect but he does expect the audience to be patient (paraphrasing) was an expert mood to set the scene of this is session one, and people are learning, and still figuring out how much they like the game.
