I'd never claim this as intentional on Himaruya's part but I think Gilbert maps very well onto the archetype of pompous, insecure, self-aggrandizing army officer that you see especially in older works satirising or otherwise mocking Prussia's rigid military structures and the clown people inhabiting it

i think biblically accurate modern day human au gilbert and ludwig when ludwig is a child would be gilbert clicking onto roderich's linkedin, the only place he hasn't managed to block gilbert on yet, and distractedly saying "not now sweetie mommy's cyberbullying" while ludwig tries to infodump about military tanks again

the only reason roderich hasnt blocked him on linkedin is because he didnt actually make it himself he paid basch to do it for him and then forgot the login information

gilbert does listen to him infodump btw. and he takes notes during it to show ludwig that hes listening. hes just also doing this while erzsébet is blowing up his phone promising to kill him if he keeps sending roderich crypto scam links because roderich WILL fall for them
