ILLUSTRATE THE BRICK: an announcement
Hello everyone, if anyone is still around. A lot of stuff happened between the last time I updated this project/had any momentum at all. But with lesmis365 going on, pilferingapples suggested that we sync up the schedules so that we'd all get more time to catch up and recombobulate. I'm still up for doing this, and if anyone else is also interested, I'll be redoing the calendar soon to get it all organized again.
Thanks!

Illustrate the Brick: Le Petit-Picpus
'Behind the grating, behind the shutter, you saw, as much as the grating allowed you to see, a head of which you saw only the mouth and chin; the rest was covered by a black veil. You caught a glimpse of a black guimpe and a barely-distinct form covered by a black shroud. This head spoke to you, but did not look at you and never smiled at you.
The daylight that came in from behind you was arranged in such a way that you saw her white and she saw you black. This light was a symbol.â

'Suddenly, in the middle of this profound calm, a new noise arose: a celestial, divine, ineffable noise, as delightful as the other was horrible. It was a hymn that emerged from the shadows, a dazzlement of prayer and harmony in the gloomy and terrifying silence of the night; women's voices, but voices composed simultaneously of the pure accent of virgins and the innocent accent of children, of those voices that are not of earth and resemble those that new-born children hear still and the dying hear already. This song came from the sombre building that dominated the garden. In the moment in which the clamour of the demons was fading into the distance, you would have said that a choir of angels was approaching in the shadow.
Cosette and Valjean fell to their knees.
They did not know what it was, they did not know where they were, but both of them, the man and the child, the penitent and the innocent, felt that they should kneel.â

Hugo, Victor. Les Misérables Volume II, Book IV, chapter II - A Nest For Owl and Wren, Signet Classics (Based on the C. E. Wilbour translation)
"It was in front of the Gorbeau Structure that Jean Valjean came to a halt. Like birds of prey, he had chosen loneliest place to make his nest.
He fumbled in his waistcoat and took out a sort of pass key, opened the door, entered, then carefully closed it again and ascended the stairway, still carrying Cosette.
[âŠ]The little girl, with that tranquil confidence that belongs only to extreme strength or extreme weakness, had fallen asleep without knowing with whom she was and went on sleeping without knowing where she was.
[âŠ]Cosette, without bothering to understand anything, was inexpressibly happy with her doll and her good friend.â
Hugo, Victor.
ILLUSTRATE THE BRICK: PSA/WEEK 13
Hey everyone!
Sorry for the complete lack of everything with this project in the last like, oh, month? I got swamped by midterms and study/travel things and it all just kind of ate me alive. I will be starting up the weekly announcements and reblogs again this week and actually setting up a (gasp) queue of things so even when I get totally buried, it will be okay.
IN THAT VEIN: this following week (Nov. 3-8) will be 2.5 A Dark Chase Requires a Silent Hound. (Maybe I'll even draw something for it this time gah I'm kind of the worst admin ever sorry guys)
ILLUSTRATE THE BRICK: WEEK 12
DEEPLY SORRY FOR FORGETTING LAST WEEK so while we would normally be at 2.5, I'm going to put this week down as 2.4 The Gorbeau Hovel.
Again, I'm sorry for being the worst admin ever, but I'll try harder to keep this on track!

Illustrate the Brick 2.4.3
The Gorbeau Hovel: Two Misfortunes make One Piece of Good Fortune
Hapgood:
Like all children, who resemble young shoots of the vine, which cling to everything, she had tried to love; she had not succeeded. All had repulsed her,âthe Thenardiers, their children, other children. She had loved the dog, and he had died, after which nothing and nobody would have anything to do with her. It is a sad thing to say, and we have already intimated it, that, at eight years of age, her heart was cold. It was not her fault; it was not the faculty of loving that she lacked; alas! it was the possibility.
Before we move on to Happier Times for Cosette, let us reminisce cry about how Cosettte had loved the dog, and the dog had died.Â
Illustrate the Brick 2.3.8
Accomplishment of the Promise made to the Dead Woman: The Unpleasantness of Receiving  into Oneâs House a Poor Man Who May be a Rich Man
Hapgood:
"Truly, sir?" said Cosette. "Is it true? Is the âladyâ mine?âŠI shall call her Catherine,"âŠ
It was an odd moment when Cosetteâs rags met and clasped the ribbons and fresh pink muslins of the doll.
In which Cosette receives a beautiful doll who is dressed in almost the same colours Fantine wore.Â
