Last week I was lucky enough to present my Master Class on ‘how to find, value and make ideas happen’ at EICAR international film school in Paris. At the end of the presentation, we had a passionate exchange with the students about what it means to be a filmmaker –– thanks to everyone involved, and I hope to see you soon in Paris next year for a workshop.

I made this Illustration after someone’else dream. A friend once told me: ‘Often when I’m too busy during the day, I stop having dreams at night.’ Somehow, this statement stuck in my head, so I wanted to find out if this was true for me, too.For a while, I started paying more attention to my dreaming in relation to the intensity of my daily activities. Last year, I was lucky enough to spend some time in the countryside, having extended naps in the hammock and strolling on the edge of the Mediterranean. Those happy moments of idleness appeared to stimulate my cerebral activity at night. I experienced more vivid and intense dreams than usual. In turn, my thoughts during the day deepened. I was more inspired and focused - I wrote my first feature treatment during this time. So it seems that being idle and dreaming (literally) is essential for any creative work. “It is in our idleness, in our dreams, that the submerged truth sometimes makes its way to the surface,” says Virginia Woolf. But how to be idle, when our attention is continuously highjacked by social media feeds? It’s hard to make people dream, but perhaps they can be inspired to embrace idleness and thereby re-connect with themselves and the simple pleasures of life. This belief has given birth to a project called ‘Lost Pleasures’ - a series of 52 one-minute-shorts with the aim to celebrate those simple but essential pleasures. I hope we will be able to launch this initiative by 2018. So please stay tuned. With that, I wish you a happy idle year full of dreams!
