bilbo wandering around the empty halls of his home, hoping to hear the cheering of the dwarves, waiting for any of them to walkout of his pantry with something they shouldn’t

waiting for the laughter of fili and kili, a sound which bilbo can vividly remember changing over the course of their journey

bilbo at night waiting for the low hum of the misty mountains cold

bilbo spending hours just sitting, thinking of all that happened. what he could have done, what he didn’t.

he could have saved them all. he’d failed. had the journey been worth it?

bilbo can’t help but wish none of it happened, the heart break of his family dying again too much to bare.

but then he remembers what thorin told him. to go home, plant his trees, grow his garden.

so bilbo does. 13 different plants, all reminding him of the dwarves he’d uprooted his life for. in memory of all they’d done.

thorin’s is the biggest. an oak tree, standing proud and beautiful. just as thorin had been.
