Anyone out there who thinks operatic voice doesn’t take any effort and is just “fat people screaming in gibberish onstage”, suck it. In a preliminary session I had with a personal trainer a while back, she expressed how impressed she was about the core strength I have compared to other clients who were just starting out. It’s because of my operatic training. It was one of my New Year Resolutions to take better care of myself and to get in shape. This is one of the ways I’m doing that. I want my body to be stronger for what lies ahead of me in the future when it comes to singing. Can’t really see because I’m holding a 5lb weight on my chest, but I am wearing a T-shirt featuring @theawakeningofficial generously gifted to me by @ashtonnyte - you’re so sweet. Happy Birthday to David Bowie, who would have been 73 today. I owe so much of who I am today to him. He inspired me as a singer, as an artist, as a musician, as a rebel, and as a bisexual woman. I felt validated in being different. I felt encouraged to stand out. I felt empowered to challenge society’s rules and standards. David Bowie was also my gateway drug into goth and industrial music. His music and his form of expression really inspired me to look into myself and not care about the restrictions placed upon me. He inspired me to prove people wrong. He also inspired so many musicians that I adore and admire so deeply. They wouldn’t be where they are today without him. Also, lately, his unique voice has been helping me to develop my skills in proper, traditional operatic training by strengthening my chest voice that I’ve been neglecting for so long (that I’ve long been handicapped by as a singer without even knowing it).
