Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (2025) dev. Sandfall Interactive Sciel for @onewingedangels 💜💛
Tomorrow will still come.
Sun and Moon
expedition 33 is a game about what would happen if you died and your family went insane fighting over your minecraft world you made when you were 12
It's about grief. It's about letting go. It's about fighting on. It's about family. It's about the existential horror of mimes.
It's about escapism. It's about surviving despite it all. It's about the wonder of the world even in darkness. It's about mimes beating the shit out of you.
It's about love. It's about heartbreak. It's about who the fuck put all those mimes here

Based on that one scene in one of Makiatto's memories where she and the commander have to pretend to be a couple for their mission (as you do)
SAME.
does anyone have gifs of that girl from nikke but she's all twitchy and visibly experiencing shellshock
Shit man, this shoujo war is fucked. I just saw a girl clap her hands together and say "10,000 years tunnel of love" or some similar shit, and every one around her got nosebleeds, had their pupils turn into beating hearts and then faint. The camera didn't even go onto her, that's how common shit like this is. My ass is using a stockless bullpup rifle and nothing else. I think I just heard "pretty beam:rapture" two groups over. I gotta get the fuck outta here.

helldivers 2 literally sounds like the fuckin ‘omg here’s what I’d put in a game’ wishlists you and your friends would come up with at 3 am while vibing in some AAA game
“Yeah, you basically play as Halo’s ODSTs, you fight bugs from starship troopers and the Men of Iron from Warhammer. You can buy all kinds of equipment based on your level, and also there’s a human gamemaster behind the scenes directly organizing the galactic movements of the enemy factions in a real and dynamic way.” Shut up. What? You can put that in a video game? It’s allowed?
“Oh and then we’re gonna add mechs” dude I’m gonna squeak
going to break into the piracy discourse and argue that it isn't ethical to buy a AAA video game. you shouldn't give them your money. it's only ethical to play if you pirate it.
I think I could be persuaded of this if you give a good enough justification
I am realizing that when a post of mine leaves my circle it might make me sound some sort bizarre or wacky or flippant. and to an extent that is my own artistic decision in my speaking. but I think I'm speaking with an underlying truth so I'll attempt to be comprehensive.
If you've seen gaming news lately, you'll see thousands of layoffs across the industry. many of these cases it is not because of a lack of success, it is in spite of it.
These are some of the most successful companies in gaming, so what is going on? Another recent round of layoffs gave some light into this:
It's about appeasing shareholders & investors. Many companies' workforces are at the whims of this. Their goal is to maximize profit wherever possible. Workers are *typically* salaried, meaning that during development, they earn a set amount of money which is agreed upon. The game will have a set budget. The success of the game does not effect the payment of the people who work on it. (Save for the potential of a possible bonus, but even then, that's also dependent on if you've been able to keep your job & the company decides to grant a bonus)
The people who worked on the game don't get to reap the rewards of a game's success. Whilst a company can earn the profit and wipe hundreds from their workforce ensuring those workers don't earn from that success, rather that money simply goes to the executives and shareholders.
My belief is that giving money to companies that do this is rewarding & supporting this awful treatment of developers. I think if you spend money on games, it should be toward studios with more sustainable business models.
Also these big AAA games are expensive and I think that's OK that people simply don't want to pay for them. 👍
Is this true for all AAA games? Do all of them treat their workers that badly? And, on the flip side, are smaller titles any better?
I don't have the answers to whether or not each specific company acts like this but I think these huge companies going through this is indicative of the industry at large. And when we talk about the "flip side", it's a very, very big range of titles. My rule of thumb is: if the people who actually made the game get the money, that's more worth it to purchase. I am not typically a mainstream gamer. A hard majority of the games I purchase & spend time with are from independent studios or solo developers on platforms like itch or steam, so I know that most of the money from my purchase goes toward the people who actually made the game. Sorry if "you have to do your research to know for sure" is not a satisfying enough answer from me, but when I see the game industry at large, it's very exploitative and I'd rather the income of rich shareholders get hurt over the income of actual developers.
