Tomoe Gozen: Female Warrior of Medieval Japan
Tomoe Gozen was a badass female warrior in 12th century Japan.
She was well known for her leadership and valor on the battlefield during a time of brutal civil war between the Minamoto and Taira clans.
This post is just a snippit of information. I had planned to write something longer, but so much has already been written about Tomoe Gozen that I decided not to reinvent the wheel. Instead, I’ve included a list of resources for further reading.

From the Tale of Heike:
“…Tomoe was especially beautiful, with white skin, long hair, and charming features. She was also a remarkably strong archer, and as a swordswoman she was a warrior worth a thousand, ready to confront a demon or a god, mounted or on foot. She handled unbroken horses with superb skill; she rode unscathed down perilous descents. Whenever a battle was imminent, Yoshinaka sent her out as his first captain, equipped with strong armor, an oversized sword, and a mighty bow; and she performed more deeds of valor than any of his other warriors.”

These resources are listed in order of importance - but of course that judgment is subjective. If you’re interested in Tomoe Gozen, then I highly suggest that you look at the first one or two of these.
