lol booked dentist for first time in forever.
it's pretty stupid having a rather notable dental phobia; logically i recognise the rewards of dentistry outweigh the risks, but having had a drill bit explode in my mouth as an adolescent has really fucked with me.
that asshole dentist in beverly hills didn't even finish polishing the fillings; it's been rough for decades now - though to his credit, the work has otherwise lasted. second weirdest thing about the visit was james woods just hanging out in the waiting room sullenly. maybe he'd had a bit explode as well. who knows.
there's nothing notably wrong with my teeth. beyond that rough patch on ye olde filling. it's just i've reached that age where i can't make further excuses to not go, and there's probably some work that needs doing. at the very least, i can get a sick polishing or w/e.
part of me which is tempted to get my lower teeth straightened out -- wisdom teeth came in and crowded things a bit, which might complicate that dream.
beyond the semi-rational fear; dentistry is pretty fucking interesting. the material science of it all intrigues me - i picked a dentist whose been doing it longer than i've been alive and has 5-star reviews + good hype, and fingers crossed he'll recognise i ask a billion questions not just b/c i'm nervous but because i'm genuinely curious. god i hope i get a copy of my xrays.
in another life, being a dentist or hygienist would have been a compelling job. it seems like peculiarly detailed work. how strange it is to get all up in somebody's business to perform essential maintenance. intimate and ordinary at the same time.
