My third (and final) baby was born at the end of June at exactly 33 weeks. After a four week antepartem stay for me, I went into spontaneous labor for the second time and because we were one week shy of our planned csection, my doctor made the decision to deliver.
My csection was going pretty routinely at first until the anesthesiologist asked for a bair hugger and I began to listen to the drugs they were calling out for- I knew I was hemorrhaging. After some time my doctor peaked around the curtain and asked me how attached I was to my uterus to which I replied, āif it has to go then it has to go.ā He called in another OBGYN and they began working on me. I received two units of blood while on the OR table and because they had been in me for so long my spinal was wearing off and I began to feel a little more than the normal pressure that comes with a csection but not exactly pain so I told my anesthesiologist. He then put me under twilight sedation and I was out. When I came to in my recovery room my doctor explained that I had lost 1460 mL (1.46L) of blood due to where my placenta had attached and he simply couldnāt stop the bleeding, I wasnāt a candidate for a Jada placement because of a deep septum in my uterus and none of the anti hemorrhagic meds werenāt working. Thankfully, after 2 hours in the OR they managed to stop it without needing an emergency hysterectomy.
My sweet girl ended up being in NICU for a total of 26 days. She did wonderfully while there with minimal complications but, to put it lightly, I did not handle the experience very well.
She is now 6.5 months old (5 months adjusted) and is the happiest, sweetest baby. Life with her has been wonderful and she has brought so much joy and love to our family
