the online identity and gimmick-ifying of autism is so odd. I'm diagnosed with autism and yet I barely identify with any stuff I see about it anymore. It feels like autism is being rebranded as the Silly Guy Disorder that gives you smart and beautiful hyperspecific interests. it's not that I mind silly jokes or being lighthearted about being autistic- but when the entire social movement is based around marketing us this way, I just can't help but feel isolated from it. it feels like I'm not the right kind of autistic. I'm not marketable and digestible to common audiences, and therefore I am discarded by the movement in the name of progress and acceptance. it feels foul.

#i feel like this about adhd #i try not to but i see people who dont have it as bad holding white collar jobs and attending schools its like -_-#happens when diagnostic criteria gets expanded #i will always struggle not to be homeless bc of it #i just cant relate to people who made it to adulthood without being forcibly diagnosed #like… i cant even live alone with it #i leave fires lit and stoves on food i cant afford a buy again outside the fridge #i forget which chemicals ive used and mix them together on accident #i have trouble taking pills bc i cant remember if ive taken them #and sometimes i overdose #but again i try not to be a bitter asshole about it #its just like. nowadays its not seen as some sort of disease like in the early 2000s #theres this social expectation that i can do everything a non-ADHD person can if i really put my mind to it #im not saying we should go back to acting like its a disease but it would be cool if we could #acknowledge developmental disorders for what they are #ill delete this reply in a bit i just needed to say that
