Chapter Summary:

Back from Hell, Sam looks for answers as to who might have raised him from the pit, and meets an unlikely ally in the process.

Chapter Preview:

The sky is dark when he wakes. 

If not for the stars above and the rain on his skin, he would be sure he was in a coffin. But when Sam gasps, the air around him puffs grey, and he’s certain that—somehow—he’s alive.

There isn’t joy at the thought, only confusion. According to his surroundings, he’s right where he took his last breath: on a patch of grass in the middle of Stull Cemetery, sitting among the headstones. But this time, he’s alone, with the dew from the damp ground seeping into the back of his jeans and rain drops catching in his hair.

The last thing he remembers seeing—it was supposed to be the last thing he ever saw—was the cluster of the Horsemen’s rings landing on the earth, the dirt around it sinking and crumbling into a cold vacuum of nothingness. He’d looked back at Dean, whose face had been beaten into a bloody pulp, because of him—no, because of Lucifer. Michael had moved toward him, Sam’s arms clamping down on Adam’s as he tumbled backward into Hell. Into the dark, hot underbelly of the beast.
