There’s not a tremendous amount to say, so hey, why not! After Galvatron was buried under an iceberg by the Autobot Headmasters in the latter stages of The Headmasters anime in 1987…

…that was it for the OG Decepticon leader for a couple of years. Guys like Scorponok, Overlord, and Deathsaurus rose to replace him, but after their successive failures, 1991′s “Return of Convoy” storyline saw evil alien Dark Nova resurrect Galvatron after something like 20 in-universe years and reformatted him into “Super Megatron,” to counter Optimus Prime, who had just been revived from his own death as “Star Convoy.”

After Optimus and his team, the “Battlestars,” merged into the colossal “Triple Combination Battlestar Attack” vehicle, it became apparent that “Super” Megatron wasn’t cutting it, so Dark Nova upgraded him again into “Ultra” Megatron:

Even that wasn’t enough, and Ultra Megatron got blown to biscuits, but Dark Nova himself then merged with his remains to become “Star Giant.” 

But of course our heroes prevailed and Star Giant was destroyed. 2013′s Metrowars slipped an extra chapter into Megatron’s story, as it revealed that Ultra Megatron’s body was recovered by Straxus, who attempted to brainwash him via a mental link, observing that if Megatron did not stop fighting him, then Megatron’s “diabolical nature” would soon “crumble away.”

This little retcon served as an explanation for Megatron’s restored “sanity circuits” in the Japanese Generation 2 storyline, when he worked with Optimus Prime to form the “Cybertron Alliance”… until humans killed an old friend of his, and everything went south again.

Once more, it is TFWiki’s sad duty to be the bearer of bad news, and report on the passing of Wally Burr. Wally was the voice director of the original Generation 1 animated series, as well as many contemporary shows like G.I. Joe, Jem, and Inspector Gadget. In addition to directing, he would occasionally step behind the mic himself, at times playing Jazz, Ratchet, Thundercracker, Shrapnel, and Seaspray - but his most notable performances on the show were as the boastful man-fish King Nergill, monarch of Sub-Atlantica, and the electrical imp Kremzeek.

Born June 2, 1926, Walter Story Burr was proud to boast that he was the youngest tank commander in World War II, sworn in as a Second Lieutenant just two days after his 18th birthday. Though he thought the war would be over in a matter of months, and that he was signed up for a short adventure, he saw five combat campaigns, and was promoted to captain by the end of the war.

As a director, he was a famously cantankerous perfectionist, who worked his actors hard to achieve exactly what he demanded, right down to the syllable. Michael Bell jokes that being directed by Wally was what killed Orson Welles! Though spoken of only with fondness by the performers under him, Burr’s grueling eight-hour recording sessions were reportedly a large contributing factor to 1987 voice actor strike, with performers demanding that sessions be reduced to a four-hour minimum.

Wally met his wife to be, Kristene Wallis, in 1986, when she took his voice over class as a means of improving her directing skills. Eight years later, the pair re-established professional contact, until Burr pointedly let slip that he had recently broken up with his girlfriend. “That was it,” Wallis says. “I started pursuing him, and he let me pursue him… and the rest is history.” The pair were married in 1998, and remained together until his passing.

Whenever I think “yeah I got my life in order” I see a panel of them standing next to each other and Megatron is just towering over him and suddenly, there we go, my size kink set in full motion so damn fast that it’s embarrassing.
