En-light The Pain

This new moon is no joke. 

Eclipses are an intensified new or full moon, as this is the only time they occur. They bring together a lot of what has been brewing the past new moons (months) and what is happening now. With Mercury in retrograde, this also means we are looking back and double checking everything that passes us. 

Mercury retrograde gets a bad rep and it’s become way too mainstream that it really dilutes what it’s meant to teach and show us. Not only is Mercury (in mythology) the messenger, it’s the connection between the higher mind and the physical. Retrogrades make you take a step back and reevaluate what is currently happening in important aspects of your life. When your ex pops up again, it’s your chance to confirm that you are really over them, or that you forgive them. When your phone breaks, it makes you think: how else are you communicating? It makes you stop and reflect, an action most of us have lost. We never reflect. When there’s miscommunication, we never stop and ask ourselves “how did we react, act or process the information?” How is that contributing to the conflict? When people misunderstand us, we blame each other instead of thinking, “well, what did you mean? Where is it coming from?” We never get to the bottom of our emotions. We never get to the bottom of our judgments. This retrograde in particular demands the question of “what is working and what is not? what is healing and what is not?” be answered in reference to your relationships, to your habits, to the way you treat yourself in the space of your mind where you spend all your life. Are you happy in there? If not, why not? If so, how so?

Now, the new moon in Virgo brings to light discernment; the ability to judge–what goes into your body, who comes into your space, what are you doing for you, how are you attempting to satisfy your needs, how are you contributing? The shine of Leo season has matured and begun to ask the question: “What can I do other than just be? How can I put in my dues to become greater?” Virgo seeks the answer. Virgo analyzes the situation, looks at it from every angle, inspects every detail, makes all the connection and then does the work. Virgo “handles” it. 

When setting intentions, look at your life in its current entirety and again, ask yourself: what is working and what is not working. Then set intentions to focus on what is working and let go what is not.

Is checking your ex’s Instagram doing you any good? Is it helping you love yourself more? What can you be doing instead?

Are you making healthy decisions? Are you resting? Are you taking care of your own needs? How is it affecting you? Are you doing right by yourself?

I know it’s hard to believe nowadays that we can make any type of change. We know all of the barriers that stand in the way of our success. Racism. Sexism. Ableism. Homophobia. Transphobia. Biphobia. Classism. white supremacy. I know neoslavery (economic slavery) is very real and we are all suffering through it. They take away the most basic of rights, they deny us access, they police us in our neighborhoods, they monopolize the market, they degrade us until we don’t see beauty in ourselves anymore. I know that it gets really tough out there, to believe in the Universe and the energy of our ancestors, but let me offer you this advice: they can never, ever have your mind. 

With all the resources we can tap into today, we need to be consuming knowledge so that we can discern right from wrong, efficient from inefficient, truth from lie, revolutionary from liberal, good from evil, healthy from unhealthy and self love from self hate. Then share it with others. That is what Virgo brings to the forefront. Virgo, in the end, wants to serve the people and serve them well. But it knows, without the knowledge and the experience, they can never do what they want to do. Which is why they want to learn and do. 

However, do not fool yourself: the more you know, the less you know. Virgo has a tendency to be rigged in its conviction as it believes itself to be right. They believe their way is the best way because they’ve “seen it all” but the truth is, the Universe is a complex entity. We are all a part of it, therefore, we are complex entities. We can never construct the “perfect” person, situation, or creation. Perfect to Virgo is the only perfect and that’s one of it’s downfalls. Virgo doesn’t like to leave things up to fate because they know better and can produce better. This stems into judgments. This stems into criticizing people. This stems into self-hate. 

They get mad when things don’t go exactly how they thought it, but how is that anyone else’s problem? How are you being narrow and unwavering in your life? Is there something you believe not to be the problem, but deep down, you know it is? Someone whom you know is not the best to keep around but you think you can “fix” them, or the situation, and as a result stay in a constant battle? Are you always judging yourself on the things you do, on the perception of your life, on your progress? Remind yourself: how are doing these things efficient? How is this helping you become a better person? If it isn’t helping: cut. it. out.

It’s time to let go of what no longer serves you, my dear, and embrace what will help you succeed in whatever sense that means to you.
