Yuuri buries himself between wet leaves and broken branches, pushing his heels into the dirt as he crawls back on his hands. The pouring rain has lifted the small of earth and it fills Yuuri’s nose. It makes it hard to catch a whiff of the other scents around him, Makes it harder to sense the danger. And there was danger around him. Hunting for him. An alpha. A simple excursion to gather food turned deadly when he caught a whiff of an alpha in a rut. Beyond the safety of the walls of his tribe he is nothing more than prey. Nothing stands between an alpha and his victim. Nothing. And without so much as a weapon to defend himself, Yuuri has no choice but to hide and pray to the gods the rain washes his scent away. Yuuri digs his fingers into mud, slathering it on his body, paying mind specifically to his scent glands. The air around him is loud. Full with the sound of  thunder and hiss of water running heavy through leaves. Yuuri shivers, pulling his legs up to his chest. He can’t tell what sound is animal and what sound may be the alpha. His eyes scan between the bushes, searching for a sign. Any sign at all. He gets his sign with the sound of whistling. It’s quiet at first. He thinks it nothing but a bird amongst the trees. But it grows louder more clear. It’s followed by chatter, laughter. The alpha is not alone. Yuuri swallows the lump in his throat before shifting to all fours. He keeps his belly low to the ground and crawls from his hiding spot. He moves further and further from the voices. At least he tries. Everytime they seem to fade with distance, they grow closer. Until Yuuri finally scrambles up to his feet. He runs carefully at first, only speeding up when he hears a shouting behind him. And then the hunt begins. Yuuri’s lungs burn as he runs, feet thudding through the dirt as they carry him as far and fast as they can. Unfortunately, not fast enough. Just when he thinks he’s lost them hands snake around his arms like vipers, yanking him back hard enough to knock the air from his lungs. “Release me!” Yuuri screams into the rain. His captors don’t ease their grip, holding him in iron grips. One on each side. The omega’s heart races in his chest as he struggles against them. To no avail, he hasn’t the strength left to fight. This is how it is. Such is the life of an omega. The scent of alpha pheromones fills Yuuri’s nose. The smell is...heavy. Like the smell of the cold mountain air with a hint of something sharp that makes his nose itch. It’s an oppressing contrast to the smell of earth and rain. It burns through his lungs, getting stronger and stronger until the alpha stands before him. He’s a tall man, with long legs and torso. His skin is porcelain stained with dirt and grime. He wears nothing to shield himself from the elements. “Stop. Leave me alone.” Yuuri’s eyes fill with tears as the alpha looms closer. Close enough that he can actually feel his breath against his neck. He smells Yuuri, presses his nose right against the sensitive scent gland on his neck. Yuuri can feel the smile. “Tears? Come now, you ran far for such a small thing.” When he pulls back Yuuri can’t read his expression. It’s almost….playful? There is no snarling or lust or viciousness behind his gaze. “Please don’t hurt me! Please!” Yuuri begs, losing the feeling in his toes from the cold. The alpha cocks his head to the side. Wet strands cling to his forehead, covering his eyes but Yuuri can make out a peek of blue. He’s so busy staring into them that he’s startled when the man speaks again. “Hurt you? Why would I do such a thing?” Huh?Yuuri furrows his brow. “You were hunting me! What else was I supposed to think?” The alpha exchanges glances with the two men on either side of Yuuri before they finally ease their grip and release him. This man is an alpha right? One that’s in a rut? How can he be so calm with Yuuri so close? The man speaks again. “You were the one who invading my territory and scenting everything. Were you not ...interested?” Yuuri stares hard. “No! I wasn’t invading I was hiding. I could smell you a mile away and I didn’t want to be taken! You really think an omega would willing have an alpha run them down and snatch them up? You’re insane.” Yuuri bites his tongue to keep quiet. He’s the one insane for yelling at an alpha. “Well, yes.” Is the man’s response. Yuuri can’t believe this. Why would someone ever think that— “It’s been a custom in our tribe for years. Though usually it is a planned event with food and beating drums. Not in the middle of the pouring rain.” He steps away from Yuuri, turning his head and wrinkling his nose as though he’s smelled something foul. Yuuri’s fear dies out. Replaced with annoyance and confusion. “You chase mates for fun? That’s your idea of courting?” One of the other pursuers crosses the grass to the alpha’s side. He pushes gently at his shoulder. “Viktor, we should go. Your rut will be starting soon and we can’t have you chasing anymore lost omegas.” “I’m not lost!” Yuuri argues. So Viktor is his name? And he hasn’t gone into a rut yet? How could that be with such a strong scent? The other man who had grabbed him apologizes before also moving to Viktor’s side. “I told you both he was just some passerby. But you’re to cocky, Viktor. Not everyone falls at the feet of the great alpha like the village girls.” he laughs. Viktor returns his smile before looking at Yuuri. “Sorry, little bird. I must have frightened you.” Little bird? Yuuri raises a brow. “Get home safe now. This area often floods.” The three men turn away from Yuuri, walking into the distance while the omega watches on absolutely confused. Such a...strange tribe lived so close to him? He had no idea. Yuuri is both disturbed and curious.
