i don't mean that negatively, theyre literally having the worst experience in their short list of experiences. it's natural to crave being doted on in the situation and celine—who lets rumi koala cling to her legs without reprimand—wouldnt think twice on looking after her.

but theres also a point as rumi gets older where she starts realizing how much her getting sick puts such a wrench in celine's carefully managed schedule

because id imagine—especially with the, ykno, never-before-seen half-demon variable—celine just basically sets up shop in rumi's room while rumi sleeps the fever away. lights set at the dimmest, squinting in her glasses at the computer screen, checking that the washcloth remains cold on rumi's forehead after each answered email. reading files one-handed because rumi wants to hold her hand.

answering phone calls outside rumi's room but the door hasnt been fully closed so rumi blearily gets snippets of celine's terse voice repeating She's Not Attending The Lunch Meeting, She's Busy.

and that's just with the part-time ceo job. we haven't even included the solo hunting part yet.

how many times has rumi woken up to find celine asleep in a chair beside her bed, uncomfortably slouched, a fresh bruise blooming on her face or an arm wrapped in a bandage that celine hasn't managed to conceal yet like she normally does because she went straight back to check on rumi after a fight.

when sheer relief allows a bargained moment of rest before covering back all faults and fears, to a young child, why wouldn't that unintentionally read as celine getting more hurt in fights because she's more tired from taking care of her.
