Map Code Snippet
This bit of code helps add a map marker to your google map.
This would an excellent item to add to something like a skytrain map as
there are stations that would need larger markers or nodes from one another in
order to help distinguish main stations that overlap.
<!DOCTYPE html> <html>  <head>   <style>    #map {     height: 400px;     width: 100%;    }   </style>  </head>  <body>   <h3>My Google Maps Demo</h3>   <div id="map"></div>   <script>    function initMap() {     var uluru = {lat: -25.363, lng: 131.044};     var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map'), {      zoom: 4,      center: uluru     });     var marker = new google.maps.Marker({      position: uluru,      map: map     });    }   </script>   <script async defer   src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=YOUR_API_KEY&callback=initMap">   </script>  </body> </html>
This particular subway map for instance uses large nodes for stations that can be accessed from different subways lines such as the one at the very bottom of the image that has a large node for a station that can be accessed via the yellow or red subway line.Â
Metro Site Maps
Here is a map of Barcelonaâs metro system. Who ever made this did colour code everything to make it easier for the user to see what station is with which subway line, but the added bubble around the station names makes the map look quite cluttered and hard to read.Â
On the other hand, this map of Romeâs transportation is a lot easier to read. The names of the station donât have that ugly coloured speech bubble around it and the designer also took the time to orient some of the text according to its direction such as for the grey line. They also incorporated transparent geographical details to help distinguish were each stop is.

Although this is not a real vehicle interior, this was an Aprilâs fools joke, I believe it is one of the most ingenious things I have ever seen. Even the thought of having your take out meal kept warm in your car with a separate area for your dish ware is a nice touch. The display panel suites the concept of a car display with the rice cooker mimicking a navigation display by having simple icons and minimal text that allows the user to jump from one feature to the next.Â
Total Design Fails

Both of these places look terrible. The repetitive nature of the layout and the bland color scheme does not draw our attention or seem inviting.
What is more painful is the time displays indicating who is being served next. The font on this particular display is very small and the bright blue background makes it hard to look at for a long period time. The space between the ticket number and the window number is not enough to distinguish which one is which as the ticket number ends in a numeral number as well. This would be especially difficult for people with vision problems.

Here is an excellent airport display. Although the green and red does remind me of Christmas, they are both have universal connotations on and off or go and stop which perfectly align with the idea of boarding your plane and a flight closing. The times for the flight departures and cities are also aligned and separated nicely by the white and yellow colours used. The added diagional dashed lines are another feature that helps guide the user allowing to further information about that particular flight.Â
Incorporating Charts and Graphs Online
This is another example of how to add graphs and charts seamlessly online.

Here are some photos we considered using. We struggled to find photos that would best depict the gravity of our topic.Â
Website Inspirations
http://splash.org/
https://colibri.io/
http://www.benefunder.com/
Taking inspiration from the first two sites we wanted to have icons with descriptive text possibly for the about me and solutions sections. We also thought it would be useful to have a fixed menu bar at the top of the page. Additionally for the main page we considered having a quote or statistic to give some background on the situation.
Here are some flat icons we are considering for the solutions or about section on our webpage.

Experimentation of Website Logos
We wanted to incorporate some element of cars, drains, and water.Â
Website Wireframes
As soon as you clicked on the website we wanted the viewer to immediately understand what this site is about. Here are a few wireframes we considered when formatting the site:Â
Lake of Shame: Ontarioâs pollution problem
- wild geese are still part of locals diets
- fish and geese appear to be unfit for consumption as the water has waste and debris floating through it
- "Some 4 1/2 million humans who have made their homes around Lake Ontario depend on this water â as does the wildlife on, in, above and around itâ
-Â ââItâs our only source of drinking water,â says Mattson [president of Lake Ontario Waterkeeper]. âWeâre very fortunate because, unlike so many other cities, Boston, New York, Vancouver, they donât have their drinking water at the bottom of their street.ââ
-Â ââYour fish warnings are more ominous in Lake Ontario,' says Ontarioâs Environmental Commissioner, Gord Miller. 'If you look at the guidelines for eating fish, youâll find that the highest level of contaminants is in Lake Ontario.ââ
-âdioxins, furans, dioxin-like PCBs, mirex, photomirex, toxaphene and chlordaneâ can be found in the trout and salmon in Lake Ontario
-ââConsumption of species such as walleye, pike, bass and perch is usually restricted because of mercury. In total, 58.6 per cent of the advice given for sport fish from Lake Ontario results in some level of consumption restriction.ââ
- Lake Ontario is the 14th largest lake in the world

Bar Chart Code Snippet
Here is an example of code that would make a bar chart. This would be nice to integrate into an infographic.Â
<!DOCTYPE html> <style> .chart div { Â font: 10px sans-serif; Â background-color: steelblue; Â text-align: right; Â padding: 3px; Â margin: 1px; Â color: white; } </style> <div class="chart"> Â <div style="width: 40px;">4</div> Â <div style="width: 80px;">8</div> Â <div style="width: 150px;">15</div> Â <div style="width: 160px;">16</div> Â <div style="width: 230px;">23</div> Â <div style="width: 420px;">42</div> </div>
