Diana did not feel the need to conceal much of her wondrous herstory. Even if these humans looked past their willful ignorance and blindness, she had the magic to make them forget or someone else would. Eventually, this city would be for the Gods. With so many arriving, it only stood to reason there would be a day when Diana no longer had to pretend that she was anything but the divine creature she was.
This was Orion. He deserved to know all, no thoughts on Diana's mind about how it might disrupt his likely boring and meager modern mortal existence anyway. "We have met lifetimes ago. Some mortal souls are destined to live on... touched by Gods and Fate, not unlike druids. You are a very special man." She hovered a graceful hand over her heart. "I don't say such things lightly." Diana smiled again. "So why don't you tell me what they call you in this life, my old friend?" She couldn't help judging his outward appearance in that moment; he looked like any boring modern man. No shimmering armor or bow, no confident smirk and fine furs. Had he not looked so identical to the man she'd loved like a best friend and had she not been so sure in her wisdom of mortal souls, the goddess would not have batted an eye in his direction.
Um... What?
Ian just sort of sat there for a long moment because he genuinely didn't know what to say. He'd never been slow in school and he wasn't exactly short on the uptake; sure, there were some things out there that Ian hadn't been able to explain but Gods? Fates? This was not real life and at the first chance he casually glanced at his phone to see if there were any alerts about suspicious people wandering around in the area. "I-" Did he make a break for it? Run? Cowardice and cruelty also weren't in his nature, if this person was somehow confused then hightailing it out of there wasn't going to do them any good. "Ian." Came the response instead, "Apparently we go back a long way but I don't know your name."
A mortal lifetime is a blink of an eye of a god. Ephemeral, common and fragile, just like that of the dandelion flower, and yet unnaturally resilient despite it's fragility. Ordinarily extraordinary amidst the countless of species that have been created from the beginning of time until now, capable of an ungodly level of adaptability and survival due to the one thing that one upstart demigod had granted them: free will.
And what wonders they had created with that will.
As jaded and weary as the goddess was, she had to admit that mortal craft had some appeal, even when it compared not to the wonders of Elysia. Rome could count itself amidst the handful cities that had a character worth visiting, and yet it was not the architecture that had brought her to the eye of the storm. Rumors of the silly little lycan fight had reached her ears, quickly followed by the rumored sightings of Archfiends, Aspects and Gods alike, and the curiosity that had ensued had overpowered her usual apathy. Thus she found herself wandering the city built atop ruins, the bitter knowledge that Orion would have liked to explore the Fey Forest keeping her away from Lupercal until the festival was to take place.
Hemera gets lost on her wanderings, uncaring of where her feet take her as long as it is not the green forests Orion would have loved so, her mind gone to a better time as she glances at the sky, hoping to see what is left of her North Star despite the daylight and the fact that the constellation had been gone for near three decades.
As always, the Fates strike when one least expects it.
The voice she hears it's one that she had tried to impress upon her memory through magic, but had feared that the memory had faded through time. Its a balm to her senses, hope manifested like a tinkle of water from a dried well. Head snapping towards the voice, Hemera's immortal heart seems to stop between heartbeats and then takes off racing. She recognizes those features, would remember them even if she forgot her own face.
Orion, she wants to call, wants to bring him closer and bask on his warmth.
My North Star, ma u'vun, vhenan, she wants to weep, to fall to her knees and thank the stars and the Fates for his presence.
She wants to crumble, after millennia of standing tall and alone.
And yet she is stopped by the mortal tongue he speaks, by the humanity of his feature, by the lack of recognition on his eyes and on his voice.
Her heart lives but does not know her.
She remains devastatingly alone.
"Lost in the road of life, perhaps," she says, finally, after a long silence, voice rough as she holds back her desire to weep. Instead, she offers him a trembling smile, voice accented with her divinity as she wraps her tongue along one of the mortal language she had learned on a whim. "I am new to the city, you see. Haven't even had the time to figure out if I am meant to be anywhere."
Lost was a good way of putting it, but Ian couldn't help but think that she had a really weird way of saying it. She had a weird way of talking in general, like she'd stepped out of some sad, YA romance novel that featured her as the main character. Ian had gone through a whole phase in High School, Jacob had him on his team until he did that whole imprinting on a child thing and if the books weren't weird already they were definitely ruined after that.
The focus that she demanded was peculiar in its own way, a center of light that pulled the air itself towards her. He wondered if the sun could dim when people walked out of the room. She had a strange way of speaking, not that there was anything wrong with the language but that it was accented in a way that he couldn't place. Ian wasn't from Italy, he wasn't even from Europe, people had been pointing out the odd curve of his vowels for years now so it just happened to be something that he tended to focus in on.
"Right... I was thinking maybe I could help you call a cab or something, maybe give you some directions?" Ian's joke was good-natured, despite the fact that the woman looked like she could burst into tears at any given moment. "Honestly though I think everyone feels like that sometimes, that's the whole crazy little thing called life. Did you just fly in?"
The table had been crowded a moment ago. However, the Valkyries went off more often to continue living the lives that Diana now generously and happily allowed them to whilst they all remained settled in Rome. The table had been cleared but the goddess was content to stay a little longer, half-finished cup of coffee in hand before she'd leave to enjoy being divinely unemployed with her girlfriend. However, a male voice penetrated this wonderful peace. It was only when she saw the face that the voice belonged to that it seemed all prepared retort and disgust would melt away. Shock made her uncharacteristically silent before she gestured. "Not at all. Please." The goddess smiled, watching the man take his seat. Diana's eyes were sharp and bright with attention, trained on the mortal as if a cat watching a dragonfly that might flitter away at any moment. She did not stop staring. "Could it really be?" No whisper or awed murmur - her voice an an arrow, quick and sure. This man was identical to the only man the eternal huntress had ever invited out with the Valkyries. Although she would never consider one who identified as male a Valkyrie, Orion had been right at their side whenever he wanted to be. The Goddess would have moved heaven and earth to see her good friend's soul found paradise and yet - here he was.
"Oh, the Fates and the realms are so unpredictable... but you don't know me, do you? You have the look of a child... Confused and innocent."
"Thanks," Ian knew how surly some people could be about their space and while this woman had a definitive air about her that said get too close and you might lose a limb, she was nice enough to give up the spare seat. The weather outside was too miserable to walk around in, at least here in the cafe he could enjoy his drink without worrying about it getting cold before he even got as far as home. Ian could vaguely feel her staring what felt like daggers into him so he tried not to look at her as she scrutinized before finally addressing the elephant that sat between them. "No..." Ian trailed off as he brought his eyes back towards her. Again, he felt there was something distinctly familiar about her, kind of like they might have met before but he couldn't place it. "Sorry, have we? It feels like we have but I just can't place it."
Damian is not good at the whole 'hide the supernatural' thing when it comes to having to lie. To just anyone is one thing, to people he knew it was harder. Long ago, Elena had made a point to tell him that it wasn't so much lying as it was protecting ordinary people from truth that might be too much for them to take. But it's kind of hard to come up with something when the evidence is literally right in front of someone's face. "It's an old fort." Which isn't a lie! And it's not like he isn't known for kind of wandering around, it all made sense in context. Leaning on the wall and looking down at the human, he does feel guilty, just a bit. Ian's a cool guy, he worked hard, he'd consider them friends. "I grew up here, my mom's old house isn't far." Also not a lie, Elena's old house wasn't far from the forest. "You though, didn't think I'd ever see you out this way."
There were the murmurs of voices, the sounds of cheering, and did Ian smell waffles? That was all- this was all out of place for an old fort. "It sounds like there are a lot of people inside." Ian wasn't dense, he could tell when someone was trying to change the subject so he didn't take the bait. "And this fort isn't on any map." It wasn't like the hunter was an expert but it didn't look very old either, the trees they'd brought down and cut didn't have a lot of age on them. He didn't want to say that Damian was lying but it didn't feel like he was being entirely truthful either. "Who's inside?"

While the rest of his friends were either on stage or cheering for whoever was singing "Lucky" by Jason Mraz, Ian returned to the bar. He'd had a few already, so he was feeling more confident as he approached the very tired-looking man with designer bags under his eyes. This wasn't the first time that Ian had seen him here when he was out with his friends, so he figured now was a good time as any to try and strike up a conversation.
"Hey man," Ian saddled up next to the other as he played himself off as casually as possible. "Can I buy you a beer?"
@mcrliin location: where does Merlin hang out? The YMCA? notes: he got an achy bone alright, but also this is a generic starter. Ian is *reincarnated* from Orion, so Merlin could have known him way back when if ye wish kiss kiss
Getting soft pussy cats out of a tree was all in a day's work. As the feral little creature writhed about in his arms, Ian was grateful that he was wearing his gear so his arms didn't get scratched to shit. Apparently, in Rome, there were more cats stuck in trees than there were actual house fires, but someone had called in about this little guy, and since Ian was in a constant state of being hazed, he'd been sent out to fetch him.
"This one yours?" Ian asked as he held the squirming cat to the first person he saw. There was something to him, a kind of quality that Ian couldn't really place. It was like seeing a red brick house in a lineup of a cookie-cutter subdivision. There was nothing wildly wrong with the man or even off-putting; he just seemed different than the average Joe walking down the street.
@daylighthemera location: the STREETS, outside the fire station notes: second first meeting kiss kiss
The days were long, especially when his shifts ranged from two to three days, and he was constantly waiting for an alarm. Last night had been ruthless, but at least for the next couple of days, it was over, and he could look forward to going home and resting. Physically, he was still tired from the last time he'd hung out with Magnus, listless and sort of depressed ever since he'd camped out with that guy Alder in the woods. Ian kept putting one foot in front of the other; he'd landed in Rome because he was trying to find himself outside of the home where he'd been raised; there was this restless, daydreamer quality to the man he'd always possessed. Helping people and doing right by them satisfied him for a while, but Ian couldn't help but think something was missing.
He'd spent the last decade looking for something that was inherently intangible. It wasn't like Ian had had a hard life; it was more or less atypical to the sort of lives that people led where he was from. Ian's grief wasn't the most exciting thing about him, and neither was his regret.
Ian craned his neck towards the sun; even with a head full of seeds, he kept looking towards the light. Tired as he was Ian could feel the restless parts of him going a bit quiet, they'd wake up and rally when his strength had fully returned. For now, he was content to drift. A sigh passed from his lips before he looked ahead and saw a woman standing there who had the most faraway look in her eye that he had ever seen. There was something just... Radiant about her, like she'd been exposed to nuclear radiation and might just end up killing everyone.
"Ma'am are you lost?"
After everything, there's this kind of lull to life in what is now officially Lupercal and while he's relieved they're all there and alive, he knows not having an alpha is going to catch up with them. Things are fine for now, just for now and he takes advantage of that by running around more, exploring the limits. The wall is nice to traverse when he doesn't just want to move through the forest, wants to maybe fuck around with Lucas, Lain, or Dante if he's around. By himself though it's nice to just walk along it and look out at the forest, the world seems so much quieter now. "Ian?" The voice stops him in his tracks and he's quick to peer over the edge of the tall wooden planks. It's been a while since he'd seen him, he was one of those people that he thought he'd maybe never get to see again. He looks a little more grown up now but it's no doubt him.
Which means what the hell was he doing there because he was definitely human. "Dude, what are you doing here?" He's grinning regardless as he peers over the edge.
Damian was a blast from the past and considering where the two of them met it was strange to see him here all the way on the other side of the world, then again he imagined it was just as strange to Damian. "I was just out for a hike, found some tracks and followed them here." You'd think people would know if there was some fortified... Town? In the middle of the forest. "This place isn't on any map, and you didn't answer my question." Ian wasn't usually the suspicious type but everything about this screamed of the bizarre. It wasn't like he hadn't encountered strange things in the past, especially in Rome, but usually, when he went looking for answers, it didn't lead anywhere. This felt like somewhere.
Magnus never really ended up having thralls because, more often than not, he ended up killing those he drank from. He'd been more conscious of it lately though. The last thing he'd wanted to do was make Ayla's job difficult because he was being a menace to society. However, he'd met Ian when he'd first gotten out from being imprisoned. He'd wanted a constant at the time, someone he could fall back on when he couldn't find blood at all. The man was human, but it was enough to satiate the Venus vampire. That was all that mattered, wasn't it? Ian was just lucky that Magnus hadn't killed him yet. Purposefully or not. Then again, he actually considered the human somewhat of a friend now even though the man was just a thrall.
He'd been flipping through TikTok on his phone when Ian walked into his own apartment. Magnus had been given a key and he had taken advantage of that fact. Staying in the Palace of Venus always felt weird to him. This was better. "Sure, I'll take one," he stated as he got up. He leaned on the doorframe to the kitchen as he eyed the human. "Don't tell me you planned on staying in all night."
It wasn't as if Ian didn't go out; he did, but work always killed him, and he needed to consider his physical condition. Pulling people out of burning buildings obviously took a lot of strength, and walking in after a bender was just a very easy way to end up dead. "I just worked the last three days straight," Ian said with a grin as he popped the cap off of one of the beers, "I'm not going anywhere." Probably for the best anyway; the whole blood loss thing wouldn't make him good company, and he'd need some time to recover. Ian offered the drink to Magnus. "Not tonight anyways." Ian was still getting used to this strange connection between them; there was this burning at the back of his throat: a hunger and a thirst. "How bad is it?"

@howlforahookup location: the wall, outside Lupercal notes: a name like howlforahookup but he doesn't even hookup, change your name to howlforawifedupformercumdumpnameddamian:(
Navigating the forest hadn't come easily; truthfully, it had utterly transformed from the woods Ian had known for several years. In Rome, the trees were familiar; he'd walked these paths a hundred times before, but in the last year, it had completely transformed. There were mountains where there had been none before, rivers and lakes, and trees that weren't native to Italy but had sprouted anyway. Ian had never seen beasts this strange, and through it all, this ethereal mist had Ian turned around more times than he could count.
Today, the mist led him to a wall. It was a wooden structure that looked like it belonged to a medieval fortification. On the other side of the wall, he heard the sounds of an entire civilization, people shouting and cheering. There was someone he recognized - an old friend from the past. "Damian?" Ian asked the man above, "What are you doing here? And what is this place?"
@delianxapollo, @divinitydiana @xpsychex location: the last bean notes: this isn't a 4-way thread. I have similar connections with all of them; feel free to disregard or love me. Whichever <3. This is a town RP now.
It was a typical winter weekend, and "The Last Bean" was bustling with activity. People had gathered inside to escape the cold weather, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and hot chocolate filled the air. Ian was a regular customer and spent most of his lazy Sunday mornings sitting by the window sipping whatever popular seasonal beverage. However, the place was more crowded this time, and he had to wait over twenty minutes just to get his order.
Ian was determined to find a cozy spot to sit and enjoy his coffee despite the lack of space. So, he started scanning the room and spotted a table with only one person. He gathered his courage, walked up to the stranger, and asked, "Excuse me, is this seat taken?"
@seraphiimx location: Nero's Golden House notes: connect for the vampire that attacked him in the past, does Ian remember? Did sweet Angel compel him? Your choice jestie.
The history of this place was fascinating. Once, there had been chambers that connected most of Rome, but now it was a ruin. It was rumored to be haunted, but only kids and superstitious people believed in ghosts. Ian had a flashlight and wore full gear as he walked through the tunnels. That Ian did all this because an old lady's cat ran down here was laughable. The rest of the squad was above ground and probably annoyed that they had been called in for yet another cat rescue mission. However, Ian would do anything to help, even if it meant wandering through a haunted tunnel to find an old lady's cat. "Here Mittens," Ian called out, "heeeere Mittens." He kind of felt like an idiot, but here he was.
@forgottenxgrayson location: Fates' notes: bar starter for the 'marshal that wiped his memory' connect, maybe they kept in touch and then Grayson ghosted for a while?
Ian found himself sitting at the bar of a high-end establishment, which was well beyond his usual haunts. Despite the overpriced drinks and the fancy ambiance of Fates', Ian had received a text from an old friend asking to meet up. The lighting in the bar was low, and the bartenders were more focused on their showmanship than on actually pouring drinks, but it was nice to break out of his usual mold. Despite the fact that Ian's martini would likely dent his budget, he enjoyed the atmosphere. As Ian sipped his drink, he saw a familiar figure approaching him. Even though Ian couldn't quite remember how he had met Grayson, he felt an inexplicable attachment to him. "Hey, man, it's good to see you," Ian said, waving his hand in greeting, "how long has it been anyways?"
@emissaryalder location: Fey Forest notes: bottle up all his emotions connect #slay
Ian had a childhood filled with hunting. While most kids were learning to ride a bike, Ian's father showed him how to track and trap. One winter day, snow started piling up through the forest, the streets of Rome, and throughout the region. The unseasonable cold billowed through the trees, and any tracks left behind were buried beneath the snow. Ian decided to make camp for the night. However, an unknown fog started to sweep across the area. The forest was filled with strange things, such as this mist that crept up amid winter's cold and animals that were there in one moment and gone in the next. This was why Ian enjoyed the forests of Rome; they were a challenge.
Ian was sitting by the fire he had built to keep himself warm on the cold winter night. The orange light from the fire radiated around him, creating a cozy atmosphere. Suddenly, he heard the soft crunch of snow, indicating that someone was approaching. Looking up, he saw a stranger standing in the woods nearby. Concerned, Ian asked, "Hey man, are you okay?". Wondering why the man was out in the freezing cold weather, Ian awaited a response.

@venusmagnus location: ian's apartment notes: biter connect. Going with Ian was probably bitten by Magnus on Halloween, made into a thrall, then the senate wiped the minds of humans so he has no real recollection. That's just his bestie.
It was kind of routine now, he'd work his seventy-two hour shift and when he was leaving the fire house he'd make a pit stop on his way home. Ian had a friend, this friend had a very unusual diet that the man couldn't help but by sympathetic towards. His appetite put him at a lot of risk and there wasn't much that Ian could do about it besides help Magnus by bringing him dinner every few days. For some reason he could always tell when it was that Magnus was hungry and when he needed him, naturally protective, and naturally caring, it was second nature for Ian to want to help the man. How and when they'd met was kind of fuzzy, but it had been about a year since the two had first crossed paths... That whole night had been kind of a blur, something had happened on Halloween that brought the two together though.
He'd give Magnus a key and told him to come by anytime, so it wasn't really much of a surprise to walk in and see the man parked on his couch. "Hey man, thought you might be here." Another thing Ian seemed to have an awareness of, Magnus' location when he was in his immediate vicinity, another thing he wasn't really questioning. Ian headed to the kitchen first though, "Beer?"
