My best friend is letting me move in with her! Well. Thereâs not actually room to move in, but the apartment room next to hers opened up and she grabbed it and then let me know, and weâre opening the adjoining door, which is approximately the same.
She is amazing and I have packed everything, and she will help me move tomorrow! And Iâm going to get to be close to her all the time, and I will get to see her tiny little brother more but he will know me better so I will feel less guilty about it.
I am not particularly looking forward to making this many trips back and forth with backpacks and boxes on the trains, but even accounting for time-value, it is less expensive than hiring a driver, as long as we can both take two to three boxes and a backpack each trip.

This means that once particle accelerators reach the 10^16 eV range, thereâs a good chance they will trigger vacuum collapse, destroying Amenta and killing everyone nearly instantaneously. And, yes, I know cosmic rays have higher energies, but these only produce collisions with high momentum relatively to Colronâs field, which is a different story. Even if the Greens and the Blues in all countries get their act together and enact regulation, eventually someone will kill us all, whether by mistake or intentionally. So, the only real solution is controlled vacuum collapse + transmitting ourselves to the new vacuum (I call it CVA = Cross-Vacuum Assembler). Oh, donât worry. Itâs a quote from the third book of the Uncoloured series, which has conveniently remained among my dearest fandoms since I joined tumblr.
The reason I chose it as my URL (and description), is very spoiling, but since you seemed interested: cut.
See, the premise of the entire seriesâlet me reiterate that I wasnât kidding about âvery spoilingâ!âinvolves, roughly, people having been extracted from their bodies, âuncolouredâ, and projected into different castes. (That is terrible summary, never mind.) One of themâs the main character, of course; sheâs been assigned âgreenâ (to over-simplified, sorry) but at the climax of the first book she discovers her original, sort of comatose/frozen self, that is purple. The evil government types tell her that version isnât real, and for reasons she needs to kill it. Being the hero of the story, of courseâ
she believes them. She obeys.
That scene destroyed me, by the way. I just. Because most protagonists wouldnât, but the whole system runs on the assumption that most people would, nd also I identified with her very strongly and it felt... like learning something about myself, like learning I wasnât as strong or as brave as I told myself I was. And it felt true.
Then thereâs the second book, and the slow guilt-ridden journey to oppositionâthe other thing the system runs on is that everyone who finds out becomes themselves blood-stained in supporting it, so she has to overcome that, and weakness and her knowledge of it, until by the third book she can look that woman in the eye and say no, the version of me you created is not the real one. And yet I am alive. So I will fight you, on behalf of who was.
I love that she makes something strong that isnât supposed to be strong. I love that she claims the rightful self was a 3-year-old purple from a middle-of-nowhere maize farm. I love that I felt like I really could be that brave, and that strong, even if I were weak now. I love that she is the knife cutting through their lies even when they think she should be harmless.
