Reality isn’t actually a popularity contest, and the fact that dueling is popular is one of the harms dueling does to a culture.

Dueling doesn’t just occupy people who are already violent; it creates violent people where there were none, by teaching them “kill people in this context” instead of “deal with your occasional impulses to kill people by saying mean things about them to your friends privately”. The number of people willing to kill people is not a fixed quantity, and influencing it is one of the most important things a society can do. 

Most people are willing to go to extraordinary effort and expense to avoid permaspringing, and also Miolee was founded by a bunch of murderous terrorists (though many countries are).

I do know that. Some cultures are actually bad, and regardless of whether a culture is bad, the fact that it promotes dueling is a bad thing about it. I have no opinion about how bad Ereith is because I usually form opinions about how bad places are by how much people will pay to swap out of them, and you can’t swap out of Ereith at all except to an equally bad place. But I am confident that lethal dueling is evil, and that cultures are to the extent they promote dueling sick, unhealthy, and harmful to their members.

I don’t understand why people keep sending me asks on this topic. I’m not one of the people you’re interested in talking to, I was horrified at all of those things when they happened which was literally years ago, and now I’d like to have a nice life with absolutely zero reds in it, and I basically achieve this if not for the obsessive persistence of tumblr anons. 3) I think protests are important. I think the permitting process is a good way to balance the importance of a protest against the public interest in it being possible to just live your life. If the permitting process is failing to balance those, we should work to make it better, but the ideal system is one that does do some balancing.

Everyone who refuses to state their caste or anything about their life and doesn’t deny being red is red, because anyone who isn’t red would deny it. This is a pretty good rule that will save you from following a lot of gross people.
