so you know I was talking about moving from Sarico to Varen after I spent another season improving my resume, right? Sarico has awful weather and no nightlife to speak of, I don’t want to be trapped here forever.

well our FUCKING government has just announced they’re trialing some new welfare policy in Sarico and I’m not allowed to move for two years! Because it might make the results inaccurate if people who dislike the policy move away!

You can apply for an exception if you can prove you were planning to move anyway, but I don’t have any family or partners in Varen and I was planning to move a season from now. It’s not like I’ve rented a place and lined up a job.

non-greens can play violin for fun

like, non-purples can cook, even if they’re cooking beyond the bare minimum needed for survival

non-purples can crochet

non-yellows can make game apps

non-greens can write fanfic

non-greys can do physical activities (exercise: it’s a thing)

if you’re not orange you can still be interested in anatomy or medicine. if you’re not green you can still be interested in history. if you’re not blue you can still be interested in politics. if you’re not grey you can be interested in military strategy. if you’re not yellow you can be interested in computers. if you’re not purple you can be interested in clothing.

none of these things are disgusting

i thought it would make me clean. like really actually clean so that people would look at me and touch me without looking sick. so i’d start feeling like everybody else because whatever was making me a freak would be dead. i was tired and i wanted to stop being dirty and no matter how hard i tried it didn’t work so i figured either bleach would work or i’d be a corpse and they could just burn me and get rid of my disgusting body forever

Talking to families across Anitam this summer, we heard a lot about caste flexibility. We heard from a lot of people who very much want us to go ahead with research into this. It would enable them to pick a marriage or a career that was a better fit for them, it’d make our country richer and it’d make our people happier. We also heard from a lot of people who were deeply concerned about reckless changes to a fundamental social institution, and about economic pressures driving children away from the culture and the life that would make them happiest.  So as we announce a trial of dual-caste career options for intercaste children born to a grey father, we’re going to be paying particular attention to the answers of those questions. Do children with the chance to pursue careers in their mother’s caste integrate well? Are they happy? Are they successful? Are they close with their families? Are there social stresses introduced? Do communities where this option is extremely rare fare better than ones where it’s common? 

I’m well aware. This is just another thing Rivik has stolen from us all.
