Painted Red â Hyuna and Hyungseok
It was strange how normal this felt. You would think that it would feel odd; the two of them being who they were yet not raising a hand against each other, instead both talking calmly to one another like old friends rather than what they truly were. âStrangeâ, it didnât even seem like a big enough word really. They might as well have been talking about the weather with the huge difference between their normal interactions and the light, albeit calculated talk they shared now. Yet, though this interaction was strange in practically every way, it somehow seemed fitting, normal even which was weird in of itself. Though their actions now seemingly went against their very nature⌠to be doing what they were, or more not doing what they usually would be. The longer they stood as they were the less out of the ordinary it felt to the tall, black haired male as he stared out blankly over the slowly darkening Venice landscape. It felt like the last time they had met in such a light, a valentineâs night not that long ago. It had felt strange at first but somehow predestined, somehow fitting even to the pair whose life many times seemed purely focused on the otherâs demise. It seemed odd, but right somehowâŚand there was truly no other way of explaining it.
â-
âYou did not or you had hoped not?â
Hyungseok listened but didnât reply to her words, a small smile touching his lips but no real answer lying there. As she continued the male listened until the loud static in his ears took that ability away briefly, his bodyâs small shifting causing the dimly illuminated girl to sigh in a barely audible wistfulness beside him, her eyes moving to look out at the city herself as her expression melted into a gaze void of emotion.
Forever the perceptive one. Though at this point Hyungseok wasnât sure anymore what he was trying to hide and what he wasnât keeping secret. He truly hated the idea of her going unawares into a battle he had not condoned and that could possibly be a large danger to her. Though he was unsure why he cared beyond that Hyuna was his, his mission, his enemy, his fight. The very thought of her being taken out by one of those foolish Viper lackeys with a lucky shot was enough to make a sick feeling build in his stomach. He didnât want to let her know everything, but he didnât feel unhappy that she had picked up on some things.
âI would think youâd be better at hiding something was going to happen Hyungseok.â The girl stated a little dryly, her voice light and airy though her meaning was not lost on the dark and stilled figure beside her.
âIâve learned long ago that there is truly no point in trying to hide things from you.â Hyungseok said a little matter-a-factly, his voice level and his posture unmoving as his eyes scanned the city, another rustle of sound brushing against his ears from the piece hidden there though his face stayed as blank as stone. These idiots couldnât keep quiet.
Distracted momentarily by the sound, Hyungseok almost missed the first inklings of the girlâs movements⌠almost. Hyuna shifted in a single smooth motion at Hyungseokâs side with the fluidity of a dancer, turning on her high heel and coming to rest eloquently against the clear glass wall now positioned at her back. Her eyes when raised probed mercilessly into Hyungseokâs that in turn slowly shifted to match his foeâs. She was missing pieces. Though Hyungseok could not read her fully, her eagerness to read him was telling enough. Though she was a perceptive devil she still could not fully understand the situation, missing pieces to the bigger puzzle that Seok refused to give her and hating every second of it. Though Hyungseok knew that she could read him well and that he had let slip much already, some things she would never get from him, no matter how well she knew him. Though it didnât stop her from trying.
Her eyes which stared into his were not confused or worried but closer to irritated. Though the average human that looked upon her expressionless exterior would simply see a blank gaze, Hyungseok knew better, and the slight hardening of her lips and the cold, frustrated fury hidden deep in her eyes was not lost on him. She didnât know what was going on, and she was loathing it.
If Hyungseok had learned anything through his years of playing with Hyuna it was that she never liked to lose, and when she felt a situation was growing out of her control she parried it by being unpredictable herself. Like an animal in the wild, they grow into habits and consistency but once cornered you can never know what theyâll doâŚand Hyuna is no different. Now that Hyuna was thrown into a situation of mystery even Hyungseok could not testify to her upcoming actions. They were sailing into dark waters and Seok could really only guess what beasts lay writhing under the calm surface of the womanâs intentions. But even so, Hyungseok neither stiffened nor changed his position when she moved closer and their bodies touched, that small connection electric as static seemed to snap and twist between their very near gazes as the boyâs eyes lowered to keep with the womanâs. The world seemed to be moving in slow motion with the two of them so close, every second being drawn out, every small shift felt between them mutually as if their senses were heightened and conformed at such a close distance.
When Hyuna moved once more Hyungseok didnât stir or shift away, his cold and endlessly dark eyes staring down into her ivory gaze as her fingers made light paths up his arm and wrapped themselves around the back of his long neck, the lightness of her touch making him frustrated for some reason, the tense atmosphere rising like static in the air. The boyâs eyes flickered over her expression as she moved, something close to confusion seeping into his dark gaze as his mouth hardened; confused by her actions, unsure of her intentions and disliking the feeling.
With Hyunaâs deeds setting him on edge he felt at a loss, confused and tense at each touch she laid against him to the point that he felt forced to move himself. With a smooth touch the taller male lifted his arm and clasped her still lowered arm just above the elbow, his fingers tightening around the thin appendage as if in warning though his gaze continued to watch the girl with nothing but a slightly harder accent in its depths.
One second passed.
Then the world shifted. Hyunaâs grip tightened at the back of his neck and she pulled him down to her level, glossed lips connecting with strong chapped ones as she pressed a powerful kiss to his unprepared mouth. She pushed far past anything theyâd ever done with her actions, holding nothing back but kissing him long and powerfully, implanting on him a kiss that would linger and last far after they had separated.
Though taken aback it was less of a shock now than it had been their first time, the tall maleâs hand tightening further around the womanâs arm but his mouth quickly catching up with hers, kissing her back with such power for reasons no part of his mind could explain. His free hand rose to her neck without a thought aiding it, naturally falling into its position as he slid his fingers around her nape and drew her closer against him. He couldnât explain it but something was driving him beyond reason, something animalistic, possessive and powerful pulling his body into actions that seemed foolish but he had no power to stop. The kiss lit something in Hyungseok, a deep burning something in his chest, the type of feeling he got from fighting Hyuna, the raw endless electricity that flowed through his veins simply knowing she was in the room, the type of feeling he got from beating her in their games, getting her down, that sense of victory and tension flowing freely between them through that long and fiery kiss.
It felt like it could have gone on forever, seconds stretched to feel like eternities with neither party pulling back from that intense connection they shared. Hyungseokâs mind seemed to turn off in that moment, still running through basic functions, still ready to defend if she turned but yet not consciously thinking, his entire world in that moment was Hyuna; that hand at his neck and her lips against his, nothing else seemed to matter and nothing else seemed to exist. Who knows how long they would have been like that if life did not intervene, if the real world had not snuck up on the pair and broken that endless kiss.
The crackling started first in Hyungseokâs ear piece, soft in his perception but snapping his mind into the present, waking him up just in time to hear a sudden ânowâ yelled in his ear⌠and that was all the warning he got before the world exploded in gunfire.
Even with the warning Hyungseok jerked at the first shot, his lowered defenses instantly shooting back up to full power as his mind snapped into focus and his body reacted.
Who knows why he did it. His body and subconscious mind acting because there was no time to thinkâŚin situations like this there never really is any time. His hand suddenly gripped Hyunaâs arm tighter and his hold around her nape suddenly moved to her front just as the door behind him burst open. And then he pushed.
Hyungseok slammed hyuna into the glass wall behind her with bruising force, shattering the glass in a spider web of cracks and then pushing her with all his strength through the opening and letting go.
The world seemed to hang for a moment in suspended time as she began to fall, Hyungseokâs eyes slipping into a blank gaze once more as they watched her go, meeting her eyes as she fell and his hand moving to his waist for his gun as she dropped down storey after storey.
Three shots. As the door opened Hyungseok fired the three bullets out of the window at the descending figure of his enemy, knowing full well that now with the door opened behind him, he had an audience and had to make his excuse look good.
Hyuna was still close enough for their eyes to be locked when he fired, aiming at her out of habit then moving the gun up slightly and pulling the trigger, once..twiceâŚthree times into the brick building across the canal. Though they were close enough he wouldnât have missed. Then hyungseok in the same motioned pulled the gun away from the window and spun towards the door, his dark eyes lingering one last time on the falling figure of his foe before he turned, his black eyes tinged with some sort of meaning before moving and firing into the now open doorway filling with Crest men trying to escape.
Blood and grey matter splattered the walls as Hyungseok fired again and again, his aim pinpoint and accurate, powering through the Crest members skulls as his sharp eyes jumped from one figure to the next, assessing their gang and then firing on them without a second thought as the bodies started to pile up. The Crests didnât know what had hit them, unprepared and unawares they fell quickly, dropping like flies all around the Vipers as their bullets tore through the opposing gang.
The fight didnât seem to take very long, the last Crest collapsing at the gun point of the Vipers missionâs leader as Hyungseok ejected the magazine of his gun, letting it drop to the ground with a dull thunk as he slammed a new one into the slot and stared around the room with eyes so much colder than normal, icy and sharp.
The scarred missionâs leader stared around the room, parting his lips to speak but was suddenly interrupted by a sharp and sudden whine erupting in in the Viperâs ear pieces, knocking any sense of quiet from the room with a high and deafening din as a collective wince traveled through the Viperâs faces. Hyungseok jerked at the sound, his hand snapping up and tugging the ear-bud out of his ear faster than all the rest and dropping it to the ground, his ears still ringing with the noise when the madness truly started.
No sooner had the ear pieces been removed a loud boom erupted in the room and debris exploded all around them. Hyungseok stumbled, the force of the sudden explosion at his back throwing him forward to his knees as debris filled the space. He coughed, smoke in the air and dust covering him completely, blinding him. He wiped at his face trying to clear it away while at the same time spinning around with gun raised towards this unknown foe, not standing up yet but aiming from his knees. He didnât even have time to contemplate what was happening before the gunshots started. Viper men dropped to the ground with multiple shot wounds long before his eyes lay upon their enemy. Hyungseokâs gaze was blurred from the dust that had gotten in them, the cloud of debris and smoke obstructing his vision enough that he felt like he was fighting blind, nothing to even aim at.
It was time to get out.
Hyungseok couldnât fight like this, it was a bad idea, he couldnât even see the enemy and the other Vipers were falling all around him. He needed to get out, he needed to get out now.
More gunshots echoed through the space but Hyungseok couldnât see, his eyes snapping in the direction but nothing but white fog meeting his eyes. It was extremely unnerving. The tall hitman quickly backed away, his gun still up and ready, aiming at anything that moved in the shifting fog but not firing and giving himself away until he had to.
But his moments of secrecy didnât last long.
Suddenly something was thrown through the air, coming into focus before hitting the ground and erupting in an explosion of light and sound, temporarily blinding the hitman as a loud ringing consumed his hearing and he stumbled back. Then there was a gunshot, and then another, things he would have never known about if they had not hit him, the pain his only indication.
The first bullet powered into his leg and the other grazed his side with a white-hot and fiery burn, the black haired boy gasping and staggering back a few steps, his gun still raised in defense but not seeing a single thing to defend himself from.
He canât really remember clearly what happened after that. He remembers firing his gun, dropping a few of the enemies he managed to see and bolting towards the door even through the immense pain in his leg and sideâŚ
But he never made it.
He was knocked to the ground and his gun was beat from his hands, he remembered a cold press of a gun barrel to his head though the bullet never came. Distant and muted yelling words echoed in his ruined hearing before he was injected with something and his struggling slowed, his arms were then wrestled behind him and cuffed together as the world started to fade away, his vision becoming distant and then dark as all feeling disappearing. He was unable to move, the pain in his body becoming a distant throb and then seeping away⌠and then there was nothing at all.Â
There was a sense of victory that she felt to the very tips of her fingers as she kissed him. A type of thought that kept her happy that she had gotten him off her guard as well -that she wasn't alone. She could effectively say that the power was hers and hers alone and that Hyungseok was just a mere pawn in her vast chessboard painted bloody red from corner to corner. It, like many things when it came to the youth, was short lived. He hadn't frozen like the solid block of ice she knew many believed him to be. He hadn't pushed her away as his mind frantically tried to grasp what she was doing and why she had done it -his world hadn't been knocked from the axis because he didn't understand like the last time.Â
She felt the sudden tightening of his long fingers around her slender arm before anything else registered. That little motion showing his hard hidden human side almost as well as the feeling of her neck being touched as his mouth responded to her almost as hot as she had initiated it. Just the feeling of his rougher lips commanding hers with just as big a possessive undertone had almost left her reeling. Suddenly this wasn't even about throwing him down into a vortex of strangling confusion -instead it was about him.Â
Everything about him had become almost absorbing. The heat of his body pressed against hers was intoxicating, sending unknown shivers down her body. She could feel it -that same driving force that got the slender woman time and time again as she found herself hovering over Hyungseok in victory or when she saw him wince in a pain that she caused by the tip of her knife or the flick of her wrist. It was odd, to think that this could excite her with a crackling intensity like their fights. What Hyuna didnt understand was that they were both animals and fighting was only second to physicality in setting nerves on an unimaginable fire.Â
Though perhaps as long as it could have gone on without her body responding and slamming him against the opposite wall in a haze of startling human need things had to come to an end.Â
The illusion was shattered with the first sound of open fire that assaulted her senses. She mimed the sudden flinch of the other and her head snapped to the side from where it was coming. Her first instinct to rip Hyungseok's hand from her arm and to fight him -all her initial observations had been right. They had been planning something from the very beginning and her forces living in wait would be on it's way to counter strike within moments. She would have joined them perhaps had the taller male she had just been kissing hadn't startled her only momentary lapse of attention and used it against her.
Just as sudden as she could blink the feel of her back smacking with enough force to knock the wind out of her lungs in he form of a painful moan. The thick glass giving way in the sound of tiny crack from her powerful source of impact. Dark orbs flickered to him for only a moment in uncharacteristic surprise, asking him in not so many words what he was doing in that moment.
She was never answered.
Instead she felt that same force pressing against her currently sensitive flesh until whatever strength and force she had keeping her up gave way and all she knew was open space and a weightlessness that only gravity would be so cruel as to shatter.
Like an angel descending unceremoniously she began the fast and merciless drop from her position in the heavens. She was only aware of three things in that moment. The way the air whipped against the plethora of cuts she had gotten from her shove on the fifth story of the building, the gun trained at her fallen form, and the way that Hyungseok looked at her. She wondered briefly if this was how he intended to have her killed -so absolutely human in her fall as she was when he had gotten her from the roof so many years ago with his gun trained so carefully on her as it was before she was answered.
No. He would not.
Instead he allowed the bullets to fly past her in a clear meaning -he was saving her. The thought was odd but there was no time to contemplate it as he turned away from her and the sound of the rushing wind reached her ears. Distinctly she heard the sounds of screaming and she wondered if they were horrified at the scene above or if her decent was what had caught their attention. With her body placed firmly with her back angled to the water and her hair whipping around her face as violently as an angry goddess she wondered what she looked like to the people gathered below.
Just for a moment. Only for a moment.
As if on preservation Hyuna twisted her body so that her feet were angled to the glassy surface of the water. It took one moment. Another. Another. Another. Then she felt the presssure of her body slicing through the water that was unforgiving as it pulled her further into it's depths like a sailor pulled in by a beautiful siren who refused to let him go. On an instinct she tried to tame she inhaled and could almost feel the murky water of the canal filling her lungs as she fought at it and for one suspended moment she let herself lie there and wonder once more of her mortality.
Would this be how she died instead?
Once again no. She decided, she had something to do. Beating furiously she propelled her body upwards as the light grew less and less dim and the cold blackness that felt so easy to fall to gave way until she finally broke the surface, spluttering and trying to bring air into her already burning lungs. Heavy limbs stinging with protest tried to hold her back but slowly and surely she made her way back to the surface and suddenly the ground became her home once more as she heaved herself up with obvious difficulty to the side.Â
Coughing seized her already tired body as the water she had taken in was expelled in all it's murky glory before her shivering and soaking frame. She was exhausted but worse then that she was completely human and she didn't know how to feel about it. This was different from the glory she proudly stood in with too heavy clothing and hair clinging to whatever patch of skin it could find -she was but a slim wisp of her former self in that moment and it was more startling than anything else. How could someone so divine be so....mortal?
It was a questioned she decided she couldn't dwell on for long simply because now she had something to do -regardless on how her body cursed and screamed at her to give up and go home. A goddess didn't leave debts unpaid after all.

The Red Crests knew exactly what to do with this skinny man when they captured him. He had killed their men in a preemptive strike and had taken out one of their best in two fell swoops. The first thought had been to simply execute him in a gruesome style before the leader whom Hyuna had alerted decided there was a better use for him instead and decided torture would be the best bet to begin with. After all, they owed him that much, didn't they?
They decided, as they chained him to the metal platform so synonymous to the medieval rack, that perhaps they should wait at least until the drugs wore off enough to let him wake up to feel the full extent of their wrath. So they waited and within the hour his eyes had fluttered open, though still covered with obvious haze, and allowed the Crests to begin.Â
With just a single flick of the wrist a towel was dropped over the males head. Acting almost right away two of the guys lifted a rather large barrel of water and began to pour it upon the cloth in massive heaps. Perhaps he was a bit sleepy at first but the soon signs of struggling hit him and past the waters he could almost swear he heard signs of gasping. Another flick and they stopped allowing the boy to catch his breath and the leader to speak. "You're going to wish you were dead by the time we're done with you boy." It was somewhat of a growl and within moments the water was being thrown back onto his face just as mercilessly as before.Â
It went on for perhaps half an hour in intervals before he finally decided to stop. They couldn't have him dying so easily on them, now could they? So instead they let him rest, going on with conversation when they believed he had enough time to rest before amping up for their next bit.Â
Without warning bits were connected to his chest and electrical impulses high enough to cause pain but not kill were blasted into his body. Of course there it was again, his struggling but it did nothing but cause glee for his captors in a way that was far too sadistic for normal words. This was for a lot of things and he had time to pay. No one would find him there and by the time they did locate the male he would already be unrecognizable and on their doorstep as a warning. They could almost promise.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Three days had passed with this torture of various methods. They had shocked him and had partially drowned him. They set fire to his skin and clothing and cut pieces of his skin just to hear him whimper and they almost felt dissatisfied by how quickly time had gone. They had to kill him though -word had gotten to the Crests and it was time for them to move even if they were secure.
They were scheduled to execute him by sawing at his throat and watching the blood bubble past his lips and dribble down his cheeks unti he finally stopped struggling and they could pack his body after disfiguring his face and ship it back to the Vipers. It had been planned and hushed until that very moment as they stood over him. 'This is it pretty boy. Say hello to the devil for us." There was a collective sort of chuckling as the knife was set in place before falling deathly silent. This was it.
Or so they thought.
Almost as if possessed the lights flickered once and then twice before shutting completely off. A kind of tension filled the air as orders were shouted to turn them back on. Orders that were never answered as the sudden sound of gunfire filled the room. One by one the Crests fell silent as they dropped to the ground until it ceased and the only bit left was the sound of strangled, liquid screaming as the Leader had his throat cut efficiently enough eyes would have been raised in a normal, lit setting.Â
Quickly as before Hyungseok was quickly released from his confined space and the lights flickered on to allow the blood painted, bruised, and complete form of Hyuna.Â
