Hyuk sighed quietly, knowing that the girl’s joke was all too real. “There’s always hope you’ll get to debut again in the future, I doubt anyone thinks you guys won’t do more.”

“do you think that somewhere there are just modern-day viking city just living their viking lives?”

“I think my daughter has actually asked me a similar question,” Hyuk replied. He didn’t want to tell the kid flat-out ‘no,’ but it was hard to say otherwise. “I’m not sure there are many vikings that are still around, but maybe they’re out there somewhere.”

“we were so scared,” solim giggled, cuddling up to her husband more. “who could have imagined it could all have turned out this well, huh? she’s such a good girl too…” she shook her head, squeezing his arm. “fuck, don’t remind me. i’m such an old lady now. i don’t need to be reminded of just how old,” she laughed, rolling her eyes. sighing a little, she nodded. “yeah. she brought it up when we were talking, and…..i just…it brought me back.”

“We just didn’t know what we should do. We just knew that we had to do something,” he said, smiling as he wrapped his arm closer around her. We were so broke, Hyukwon thought as he laughed softly along with her. It didn’t need saying, it was just true. They practically had to completely get their lives together as soon as they knew they were going to be parents. “We’re the same age though,” he laughed, “but maybe that just makes us both a little ancient.” Hyuk shook his head, the smile still on his face. “I don’t blame you. But then again I think about the past enough of as it is.”

“no– i need to warn all of you. you’re all at risk.”

“Maybe you should add all the Unpretty staff to you list of people to warn if it’s that necessary.”

“i won’t. i mean, i came to you to tell her i’m not interested, right? i wouldn’t have gone to the root of it if i actually was.”

“Honestly, I don’t know why you thought you should mention it. I doubt either of us are even supposed to know, I think she’d try to hide if she found that out.”

“my dad would hurt me. i would hurt me.”

“Good. You would deserve it. I don’t think you would ever be that stupid, but I really hope you also never prove me wrong on that.”

“okay so…i mean this in the absolute nicest way and i’m flattered and all, but can you tell your kid i’m not interested? a little birdie who happens to be my sister and also you daughter’s friend informed me of her crush and like………nothing on you or your daughter but…no thanks.”

“Listen, you’re a nice enough kid, and I’m sorry that she thinks she likes you, but if you get anywhere near my daughter I will hurt you.”

“okay so if yitta breaks something on set of unpretty, i don’t get to be held responsible. that’s just the rules.”

“Yeah.... I think you’re warning the wrong producer.”

She hummed a little, adjusting her head on his shoulder and pursing her lips. “It’s just kind of strange, you know?” she said, sighing a little. “It seemed like such a small thing at the time, but it turned into a kid and a life together. Who would have thought it could have all started in a cafe,” she murmured. “Sorry– I’ve been thinking too much today. You know, Lucille Ahn is pregnant?”

“I know. Everything completely changed when we found out we were going to have Songyi,” he replied, “I honestly can’t imagine what it would be like if none of that had ever happened, though. It always feels so recent, like I didn’t meet you seventeen years ago.” Hyuk couldn’t help but chuckle softly at her last comment, “Is that why you’ve been thinking about all this lately?” He shook his head, a smile still on his face. “Good for them. I swear, sometimes in my head I think she and Andrew have almost always been together.”

“It honestly just sounds like you’ve written the prompt to someone’s Philosophy 101 essay.”

“what do you think life would be like if i hadn’t given you my number in that coffee shop by chance?” solim murmured pensively, head resting on his shoulder. songyi was staying at her dorm, which meant a quiet night in, and solim had just finished any paperwork she’d brought home, but her brain was still in work mode– running and overanalyzing things to the point of exhaustion. “do you think you’d still be a rapper? i wonder what i’d be doing…”

“I have no idea,” Hyukwon replied softly as he put his arm around her to hold her closer to him. He honestly couldn’t picture what he would be doing if he never had met Solim. Hyuk had really gotten his life together once they met and he always knew it was all for her and their daughter. “I would probably still be rapping, but I can’t even imagine what my life would be like at all.” No matter what he knew that Solim would’ve been successful somewhere, though it was obviously hard for him to think about that without her also being able to come home to him and Songyi. 

“i’ll be too busy crying anyway because i’m so excited,” songyi assured him with a giggle. she frowned at the screen, gave up, and slumped over the back of her dad’s chair, resting her chin on his shoulder with a little pout. “good– i love kimchi,” she murmured happily. “what else do you wanna do tonight? we should build a fort in my old room that i can live in whenever i’m not staying at the dorm.”

“So you just want us all to be crying, is that what you’re saying?” Hyukwon asked jokingly as his daughter’s chin pressed against his shoulder. He shook his head at her comment, though he couldn’t say it surprised him. “You say that about everything. I doubt you would’ve actually been upset if I said we couldn’t get kimchi because we would have just eaten something else,” he said. “I thought we were just going to have dinner and watch Showtime, but since you’re not staying in that room anymore I guess you could do that. At least for a little while.”

“If I could pick more than one group, I’d probably say Empire or Reign, Mercury, or even Harmony.”

“…. everything.”

“Whichever the good one out of those two are, I’m that one.”
