my immediate first thought was oh...? what if...? he sent me letters while he sails, telegraphing his voyage, or he comes to give me gifts whenever he makes it back to port..

little tokens of luxury and wealth thats been plundered from his voyages that he saves for me 🥺

and so i scraped the fuck out of it with like 100 grit sandpaper for the wood grain and painted that bitch like a treasure chest because yeah!

i bought this purple satin fabric that i want to line it with (u can kinda see it in the corner of the box a little bit) so that it would look a little nice but im afraid to fuck it up with glue so thatll have to come later.

I did find some jars and stuff that i also filled with cinnamon sticks, cloves, and tobacco (i bought 6 white owl packs for this if anyone wants the leaves), and made a sugar loaf!! whatever pirates thought were a hot commodity circa the late 1600s.

the goal now is just to line the box with the fabric, and then the original plan. make parchment and write shitty little letters from him to me for me to read when i miss him or feel sad (or commission someone because im a lazy pos its better if someone else writes it).
