Julien willingly moves to sit next to Des. “You doing alright?” She’d appeared to be improving, having less and less hallucinations over time, which is comforting. Normal Des is preferable to drugged up Des. Silent, avoidant Des is a little strange, however; Julien watches her curiously, wondering what’s on her mind.
And then it finally comes out. The Sniper stares, nonplussed at this sudden confession.
"…Wait. What do you mean? Like..today??”
Now it’s Julien’s turn to avert her eyes away from her partner, down to her clenched fists. “…Why would you do that? That-it doesn’t make sense, you’ve never done something like this.”
Des tenses up when Julien cracks her response.
"No! It was last week. When I got really drunk. And snuck over to RED." Des slaps a hand over her eyes. "I wanted to talk to Rosie about our battle which was THE NEXT NIGHT and Tamer found me in the hallway and….!!! I guess I jumped him?? I don’t remember! I just remember waking up on top of him buttass naked!"
She wants to reach a hand out to touch Julien’s, but the Pyro is feeling too jittery from this conversation. ”So…I-I wanted you to know. I don’t ever plan on seeing him again and I haven’t talked to him. I would have said something sooner. I’m sorry!”
"You must’ve been really drunk then.." Julien mutters her reply to the floor.
Deep down, Julien knows how awful it must’ve been for Des to harbor having to fight a friend. She’s said time and time again how the whole “performance review” was a pile of bullshit. It was natural for the Pyro to seek out a way to cope with it. Weed and booze were her go-tos, and she tolerated it. But this..this was too much.
"If you were scared, I just-" Her voice starts to waver.
"I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t..come to me, if you needed someone. We’re together. I’m not the best at comforting, but I thought I was better than some..guy on RED you hardly know! I mean I..I would come to you before anyone if I was upset! Even for sex! I mean my god, what-what made this so different?? This whole thing is just really confusing and-and hurtful.”
Des tenses at Julien’s indictment. ”He didn’t comfort me…” Des mumbles. She recalls waking up with a mammoth headache and an agonizing sense of emptiness. No pleasurable feelings from the night before. Des had never, ever intended to hurt her partner. The inflection in Julien’s voice causes a wave of uncertainty to hit Des. Everything Julien has said was true; this situation is very hurtful, and it definitely will not spare Des hurt feelings. She remains quiet until Julien finishes. ”I should have come to you. I just wanted to talk to Rosie….since I was fighting her. And she’s my friend. We could have figured something out.” Des sighs.
However, the mention of sex sparks different feelings. ”Sex,” Des pipes up. ”Sex is…just sex. Don’t people have sex just for fun?? I-I mean, I guess people have sex out o-of love. When they’re married! For now sex is something I do for fun.” The Pyro is fidgeting with her fingers like she’s twisting something in her hands. ”N-Not that I don’t feel anything when we have sex-I really like you! But it’s-it’s not really a big deal if I went and fucked someone else. I think…..but I’ve never done it with anyone else since we’ve been together! And…I didn’t think you’d be comfortable knowing that I was screwing someone else.”
Julien shakes her head. "No..no, I get that. That you wanted to talk to her. What I don't get is why you didn't come to me at all. I mean, you were really that drunk that you just..up and let him drag you to his bedroom?"
Her confusion is short lived, once Des reveals her rather free-spirited outlook on sex. There are plenty of people who sleep around for fun at this base, but not when they're in a relationship! And if they are, she's pretty damn sure that'd be something pretty damn important to discuss first?? Julien shouldn't be feeling such an intense heat simmering in her gut, her heart shouldn't be hammering so, but it is. Muscles tense and fists clenched, she rises from the bed and takes a few steps away, glaring at the floor.
"So you just...just decided to NOT tell me and do it anyway?! Yeah, that makes me feel a LOT better." She briefly glances back at Des, her tone is sharp but there's a clear sense of hurt behind it. "You know better than anyone that I don't have a lot of dating experience. This is..something about you that I should know about, dont' you think? How can you just...assume, that I'd be okay with it? Did you honestly believe that I'd be okay with being in the dark like that?! Because that's selfish."
Julien feels exhausted and on the verge of tears. She brings her hands to her face, slowly running her fingers back through her hair, and lets out a heavy sigh. "Des...I..I'm not sure what else to say. But..I think I'm gonna just...go. For now."
