Everything I read about recovering from burnout is like āit takes months or even years to fully recoverā and itās like okayā¦. I have a weekend before I gotta clock in on Monday
"doesn't this charater under insane stress going through extremely traumatic events realize how inconvenient their irrational emotional reactions are to the people around them?" well, see, you're not gonna believe this, but the thing is,

today someone asked me what my favorite even-toed ungulate is⦠god, who could decide?
this was ignorant of me to post. of course its the muskox
and here comes my favorite boyā¦
okay. some of you must surely be getting tired of seeing me say this but i literally cannot help myself- THAT IS AN ICE AGE GOAT. THAT CAN GET TO BE 800lbs BIG.
we called them musk-ox because we thought they must be some kind of cow thing, but they are actually a goat thing; this is to a normal wild goat what a woolly mammoth is to a normal elephant, only these things survived.
and i absolutely cannot help myself because of the tizzy my brain goes into over the twin facts of
1: ice-age megafauna that is still alive! and
2: EIGHT HUNDRED POUND GOAT
you can see the goatishness a little more in their babies
i just, i am crazy over the fact that these guys are still alive on our planet
the economy is in shamblesā¦i donāt know
kill the shift manager in your brain
you are not wasting time you are vibing. you are not being unproductive you are literally chilling. make a grill cheese with cheddar cheese and slather a piece of the bread with some honey and maybe you'll relax
...ok but what if the shift manager is actually right
you are a minor so i will say this with absolute confidence as an adult: there is not a single time on the history of this planet that a shift manager has ever been right. and more seriously, in this metaphor: treating yourself like shit for not being productive doesn't actually make you more productive. it makes you treat yourself like shit.
Apollo 17 vs Artemis II
Despite everything, it's still you.

That's really cool actually
#excuse me but are you telling me that the Apollo pic is made with the help of the SUN and the Artemis one with the help of the MOON??? #that's actually so poetic i want to cry
@gorandomshesaid wait i need to sit with this one. wait.
i wish i knew how to properly describe how terrible aspd boredom is to some people. they all seem to believe that its exactly like their regular boredom. that it can go away if they do something they enjoy.
mine has never gone away. my entire life has been attempts at trying to mask the feeling. because there is no making it go away. even during intense experiences, i know its there. but i will do anything to put it in the background even if it is for a short while. its even worse when you are bored of every single hobby. which means the only way to actually feel in control of it is by engaging in risky behaviours. hurting yourself. hurting others. putting your life in danger. engaging in illegal activities. whatever it may be. even that brief period of adrenaline is worth it to me. i dont like living like this.

The āASPD Boredom Curseā: A Personal Dissection of Chronic Under-Stimulation
I often describe what I experience as āthe ASPD boredom curse,ā but the word boredom is actually misleading. Boredom suggests mild impatience or waiting for something to happen. What I experience is closer to chronic under-stimulation combined with a blunted reward response and persistent restlessness. It feels less like āhaving nothing to doā and more like existing in an environment where very little registers as meaningful input.
From a psychological perspective, the issue appears less about activity levels and more about reward thresholds. Many people receive small but consistent dopamine reinforcement from routine interactions, casual conversation, everyday accomplishments, or social approval. In my experience, those inputs often register as flat or inconsequential. The result is a constant sense that the world is operating at a lower intensity than my nervous system expects.
Below is how Iāve come to conceptualize this pattern.
Quick Tips for Writing Addiction and Recovery
ā§ Relapse doesn't mean failure. Recovery isn't linear. Your character can be doing great and then have a bad day/week/month. It's part of the process, not the end of it.
ā§ Cravings don't just disappear. Years into recovery and something can still trigger that want. It gets easier but it doesn't fully go away for everyone.
ā§ The substance isn't the whole problem. Your character's probably self-medicating something, trauma, mental illness, unbearable circumstances. Taking away the substance doesn't fix what's underneath.
ā§ Withdrawal is hell. Not just "feeling bad", it's physical torture. Shaking, sweating, nausea, pain, sometimes actual danger depending on the substance. Your character isn't just sad, they're ILL.
ā§ Sobriety is boring at first. All your coping mechanisms, social circles, and ways to have fun involved the substance. Now what? Your character has to rebuild everything.
ā§ People treat you differently. Some are supportive. Some are judgmental. Some ask invasive questions. Some don't trust you anymore. The stigma is real and it sucks.
ā§ Triggers are everywhere. Certain places, people, smells, times of day, emotions. Your character's constantly navigating a minefield of things that make them want to use.
ā§ You lost time. Months or years where you weren't really present. Relationships damaged. Opportunities missed. There's grief for the person you could have been.
ā§ Recovery is active work. Meetings, therapy, building new habits, sitting with uncomfortable feelings. It's not passive. Your character's putting in effort every single day.
ā§ You're not the same person after. Recovery changes you. You can't go back to who you were before addiction, only forward to who you're becoming. That's scary and hopeful at the same time.
Wanna hear a frosty cold take? Old Vocaloid music is WAY better than modern Vocaloid "music"! There's actual heart and soul put into the oldies which puts modern slop to shame

If depression doesn't make me unlovable then it certainly makes me harder to love which is basically the same thing.
Imagine hurting your child so bad that they develop a disorder that alters their brain chemistry and you still think you're the victim.
