Something fluffy featuring Delie for @thefatedfinwe who asked for a moment with Turu and his niece.
Turucano knelt in the small herb garden he kept near his Tower. He checked some herbs noting that they needed more water so they'd grow larger. They weren't too critical but they were important enough he wanted to have more than he'd get grown so far.
"Why are you playing in the dirt?"
Turucano paused and looked up to see his niece standing on the path nearby. Then he looked at his hands and noticed all the dirt covering him. Chuckling he gestured for her to join him.
"Come here Delie. I can show you what I'm doing if you'd like."
"You'll teach me the game you're playing?"
"It isn't a game, it's... something that helps me relax, and if you want to learn I will teach you how to do it too."
Delie walked along the small dirt trail to join him and Turucano smiled warmly at her. Turning back to the plant he gently cupped his hand under one drooping stalk and lifted it up a little.
"See how this plant is acting all droopy? That means it either needs more water or less. Now I've taken care of plants like this one since I was about your age, and I know it needs more water. Another way to tell is to feel the dirt around it."
He lowered his hand to the ground and dug a little before scooping up a little of it and he gestured for her to hold out her hand. When she did he carefully poured some of the dirt into her hand.
"Notice how dry it feels?"
"But don't plants like the dirt to be dry?"
"Sometimes, but sometimes they like to be wet or to get really wet. They are kind of like people. Some are like Galdor, they don't like being wet more than they have to. Others are like Ecthelion, they love being wet and having lots of water."
Delie nodded and looked at the other plants. Turucano smiled seeing it and remembering how Idril had looked around like that too, noticing how some seemed droopy while others were all perked up and happy.
Delie pointed to another plant that was droopy. Turucano looked and chuckled standing and moving to it after gesturing for her to follow him. Once he reached the plant he knelt again and gently cupped a hand under one of the leaves.
"It looks sad, doesn't it?"
"It grows like this, always seeming sad and droopy. It makes it hard to tell if it has enough water or not, but if you look at the leaves as I lift them," he raised his hand a little and the leaves stayed firmly curled as they had been but moved with his hand, "they stay firm unlike the other plan where the leaves clung to my hand. That means that it is getting enough water."
"So it's like Lomion? Always sad and upset but okay anyways?"
"Yes, it's like your brother, but that doesn't mean that it gets ignored. Sometimes we just have to wait for it to tell us what it needs."
Delie nodded, seemingly satisfied with his answer.
"Thank you for teaching me."
"It was my pleasure. If you want to learn more about these plants or any others I would be happy to teach you." Turucano stood up and grinned a bit. "Or if you would like to help me I was about to water some of the plants, and I can tell you their names while we do that."
