A Song of Ice and Fire - The Wall of Ice (A Game of Thrones) by George R.R. Martin. Page 278   â A giggling woman raced past him, naked beneath a dark cloak, her drunken pursuer stumbling over tree rootsâ
The pirate kept on walking on his way to the ship, leaving the scent of garlic sausages, spiced and savory inside the tavern amongst his men, but yet the smell that filled his nostrils and followed him was so tempting it made his empty stomach growl, how dumb of him to not touch the juicy food just because he was concerned about the bloody treasure they had recently pillaged. Away in the distance, he heard their voices raise in some bawdy song.
Lovely ladies lurked from the alleys and its corners, teared clothes showing a bit of skin or no cloths at all covering what is sin. Hook grumbled to them waving the bottle in the air but they gave him no more attention than the one the night was giving. The giggles reached his ears once he passed past hers, a drunken man followed them around letting them take their cloak and run away all jubilantly.
He snored, not content with all the happiness and proceeded with his path.
The bottle fell from beneath his fingers when a shadow rose from the deck of his ship. âWho the bloody hell are you?â He shouted to the man standing still.
As I light up my cigar my face is discovered from the dark. I walk off the shadows and into the moonlight to the meeting of the pirate "Hello, Killian." I say "Long time no see. Ye still smell like rum, though." He looked the same just a bit more dizzy than I remembered. Same old leather jacket. Same old worn shirt. Same old ragged boots. Same olld Hook.
The wooden deck was still creaking maybe even worst since the last time I was here "When do ye plan in replacingthis deck with a new one, mate?" I ask as my last breath of smoke spraids in the air like haze surrounding two lost spirits returning from the sea "Are ye getting out of gold from your plunders?"

"Robbie, refill me again!" I yel to the bartender.
"Itâs nice to have you back, Logan. The lads been missing you here. Are you planning on staying?" Robbie asked me as he gets another bottle of whiskey.
"Iâm staying in a motel. I have to leave tomorrow back to New York." the barâs full as always. Itâs been a while since Iâve been to The Loop. Robbie has helped the X-Men quite a few times. Especially when thereâs a problem here in Chicago. I think his bar is the only one Iâve been which I havenât wreck yet. Hope it stays that way.
I look at the tv and the fucking Cubs are still loosing. Iâve never liked watching sports anyway. Josh starts waving at me from the cards table âLogan, feeling for a game of jacks?â he says.
I smile at him. We always have fun when Iâm here. I get up and start walking towards him âWell, Black Jackâs not really my thing butâŚâ Oops! Almost forgot my whiskey!
I get to the table and sit facing Josh and we start talking while we wait for the rest of the fellows to join. Everyone gatters around but thereâs still a sit leftâŚ
Laura watched them for a minute when no one seemed to be going for the last chair she sighed grabbing her beer off the table and moving over to the table âThis seat taken?â she asked she didnât have a lot of cash on her but she was paid up for the night at her motel, and this might be a good way to earn her own cash. She took the seat putting some cash down on the table and leaning back against the chair
Connorâs playing as the dealer. Fine by me. We only play with one deck. As I light up another cigar someone takes the empty seat. Itâs a woman. I take a good look at her face. She looks young. The folks at the table are totally checking her out but she looks tough enough to take any of these old men âDonât mind them, kid. This olâ fellas arenât this close to a woman in a long time.â I say with a conforting smile. The guys immediatly start grumping. Dave is the oldest one here. He immediatly gets a laugh out of everyone when he says âTalk for yourself, Logan. Iâm always around young girls when I go to the hospital for my physiotherapy. But they ainât has beautiful as she is.â
"Have you ever played 21 before, honey?" I ask her as everyone places their bets with Robbieâs fake casino chips. I bet five bucks just to warm things up.
Connor delivers the cards. I get a 10 and a 4. Thatâs 14 âHit me, Connor.â Connor deals me another card. Shit. Itâs a 3. Now I have 17. The odds donât seem to be exactly on my favor. Connorâs first card is a 9. Iâll take the risk âHit me again.â I get a Jack âFuck me.â I say as take a breath of my cigar.
Laura smiled at the guys a bit though she couldnât help her blood boiling a little bit at the looks especially being called âhoneyâ
"Yeah iâve played but you call me Honey again you might be playing with one hand." Laura said the guys seemed to get a good laugh out of it. Laura bet a couple bucks with the chips she was given and looked at her cards she had a six and a two, that made eight "Hit me" she said this time she got a four which now made twelve, so far so good.
My eyes opened wide. That was a surprise! We got a sassy one here. Even though she threatened I can't help to laugh with the other guys "Don't worry. I wouldn't wanna mess up with you." I tell her.
"Well, I'm bust." I say stretching my arms. Everyone seems to be having a good time. Not just in general but here at the table mostly. The guys are playing for money but as always they're doing it just for the fun. Yet I can't  help to feel some tension coming from that girl. Who is her? "How are you folks handling?" I say as I turn to the guys.
"Goddammit, I'm bust too." Said Dave with his neat southern accent "I rather invest my money in some alcohol."
"Now you're talking!" I said "I'll go drink some more with you later, Dave. But first I'm curious to see how this ends." Connor's next card is another 9. That makes 18. Tough score to beat. The rest of the fellows all got a lower score than the dealer. Except for Joshua who's sitting at my left and got a 20. But that girl has got my eye "How's your hand, kid?" I ask her.

Stories of Survival || Snow White & The Wolverine
No where near here? It certainly didnât took me to walk much to get here. How the hell did I ended up here anyway?
But sheâs right I need to calm down and get my thoughts straight âAlright listen, this might seem a bit crazy but I donât know how I got here. In one moment I was walking the streets of Brooklyn and in the next I woke up here. I completly blacked out. Iâve been living in these woods ever since. God knows for how long.â I take a deep breath âNew York is a state in the USA. Itâs where I live. More precisely in Brooklyn. I need to find out how got here and how to get there. But for now I need to get out of these woods. I mencioned Robin Hood. Do you two live in a village or something? Do you think you could take me there?â I donât like to owe favors to anyone. Luckily, I can give something in return âIf you do, I will help you out in any way I can. Iâm a pretty good hunter, my skills are more than good, my stealth is remarkable and Iâm the thoughest son of a bitch there is to kill. So, deal?â I say with a wink.
Snow nodded at him. âItâs likely that you fell through a portal. Iâve seen it happen before. One moment youâre one place, and the next, youâre in a place very far from there. Itâs a kind of magic, actually.âÂ
She grimaced at the mention of Robin. âNoâŚwe lived in the woods, actually, but I havenât seen him in quite awhile; maybe six months or so.â It was still painful to think about him, but she tried not to show it. It didnât do any good to cry over him.Â
"I caught that deer even with you after it. Do you really think I need your hunting skills?", Snow asked incredulously. "Iâll still help you, though. I like to help and I do happen to know where the nearest village is from here. Itâs only a few hoursâ walk. If I take you there, you have to promise you wonât hurt any of the people.", she looked over at him. He looked rather dangerous and she would not see the people in danger due to her mistake. Â
I could feel the laughter growing inside of me but I tried not to let show. I take a deep breath and smile "Actually, I do think you need my hunting skills." I point a finger at the dead wild pig we were arguing about "That's a boar, honey." I start laughing while placing my hands on my belly "I'm sorry. I know you meant boar not deer." I try to stop and release one last small laughter "It's just... It was so funny you said you didn't need my hunting skills and called that a deer."
"Boy... I haven't laught like that in a long time." I look her in the eyes with a warm smile "Thanks honey. I spent too much time alone in this forest. Hope I didn't offend you."
Not to hurt anyone, huh? I think I can handle it "Don't worry, honey. I promise I won't hurt anyone." I said "Unless someone tries to kill me." I know I can be an intimidating guy sometimes. And after seeing my reflection in the lake even I was intimidated by my aspect. I look terrible. Probably gonna scare some villagers when I get there "I'll try to be nice." I get out of her way for her passage "Please, lead the way." I pickup the boar and carry it on my shoulder "Don't worry, it's yours. I'll just carry it for you. If something happens you need your hands free to reach your bow." She still doesn't look convinced. I can't blame her. I wouldn't trust a guy with my looks either.

Surprisingly? it wasnât hard to track him down. Youâd think a big bad hero like Logan would be a bit more discreet but once she caught his scent it was pretty easy. Laura found him at a bar, she walked in and despite the cigar smoke, alcohol, and whatever the hell else that smelled so god awful it was pretty easy to find him in the crowd. Laura sat a few seats away from him at the bar trying to cover her own scent a bit with the jacket she borrowed from the coat rack by the door, she was just curious about him didnât have any intentions of hurting him. Unelss he came after her first, then it was war.
"Robbie, refill me again!" I yel to the bartender.

The Indian Devil || Wolverine & Cullen
Damn that Nitro. Gave me a hell of work with that Civil War stuff. Glad thatâs over, though. The son of bitch really made me sweat.
As usual, I took off without considering what my friends and teammates said. I need a break. So I decided it would be a good idea to head south. Sometimes I wonder â why? I guess Iâm really asking for it. It doesnât matter where do I go, I always seem to be looking for trouble.
After getting lost in the middle of the dirt and heat, I came across with a railroad and decided to follow it. At the end of the railroad thereâs always a town. Me and my horse have been following it for hours leaving a cloud of dust behind us.
But we could been taking longer if he wasnât âthe fastest horse the south has ever seenâ â has the natives said. They were the first people I had contact with when got to the south. A pretty big tribe called âThe Moon Warriorsâ. I spent quite a long time with them to the point I was later considered part of the tribe. âKeukuatsheuâ they called me. It means The Wolverine. I develop very close bondings with all of them, including a horse. They said he chose me and gave it to me as a symbol of our friendship when I left the tribe to continue my journey. They called him âDevil Bearâs Mountâ in my honor and I promised I would never forget them and that I would come back one day.
Then I see a black dot on the horizon, which then becomes a thin brown line, which then becomes a small town. When I finally get there I notice the sign âHell on Wheels, Population â One less everyday.â How welcoming. I step in without thinking twice. It doesnât take long for people to notice me. I was careful enough to take the painting from my face and changed my clothes but my horse really stands out from the others. A brown stallion with odd paintings on his face and body and feathers on his hair. He was a true indian horse. Also, he didnât have a sattle like the other horses. The indians donât need sattles to ride their horses and if we want them to stay, they stay. We donât need to tie them up somewhere.
I need to find a place where I can get a drink so tell my horse to stay next to the other horses and so he does. I hear drunk people and follow their voices. Where thereâs drunk people thereâs drinks. I step in what it might be a saloon. Some nosy people stare at me instead of minding their own business but the majority of them donât pay me much attention.
I walk to the bartender and ask for a whisky. He hands it to me without lifting any suspicions and then he asks me âYouâre not from here, are you? Iâve never seen you before.â I turn my attention to a group of gentlemen gambling trying to figure out what their playing and answer the bartender âIâm just passing by.â I think itâs Black Jack.
Some guy walks in and sits next to me and asks for a drink. It didnât take too long for him to sign his death sentence âI saw you arriving. Is that your horse? Listen I donât know how did you managed to stole him to those indians but Iâm willing to pay you a good price for him.â Damn parasite âHe ainât for sale and I didnât stole it. Now I suggest you go fuck yourself.â I seem to have pissed him off âYouâre gonna regret this, pal. Listen up, folks! We got an indian here disguised has civilized people.â Civilized my ass. Those native are more civilized than any of this folks will ever be. They all get up and come towards me. Some even grab their shotguns and threaten me âYou folks really donât want to do this.â I say as that parasite seems to be enjoying the show. Everyone who had a shotgun is now pointing it to my head. I take out my claws and cut them all in half in a blink of an eye. The women start screaming and the men yell âHeâs a demon!â Everyone gets out of there running including the owner. Everyone except âthat guyâ. The prick was so scared he tripped on some chairs and begs for his life as he canât move âPlease, donât kill me. You can have anything. I have a lot of horses. You can keep them all or sell themâŚâ Patetic âShut upâŚâ I said as I kick his head leaving him unconcious. Silence falls in the room until someone comes in and breaks it. A bearded man with long hair, a shotgun and what it seems to be a watching hanging from is pocket âWhat do you want?â I ask.
Cullen quirked a brow at the stranger, finger itching to pull the trigger. When one of the whores came running and screaming that there was a demon, he and Elam had hauled over to see what the ruckus was about. Sure enough, there was a parade of drunks  and Mickey reporting about  the fallen worker and the new comer.
"Donât go in there, Bohannon-" Yeah, right.
Now, staring down at the strange man, eyes flickering between the unconscious railman and the other, Cullen chewed the inside of his cheek. Sure as hell wasnât from around here, especially if he was starting a fight in the middle of Hell on Wheels. Mickey would be pissed if they made a mess, but currently, the foreman just wanted to get a drink of his own instead.
"Son, youâre gonna have to come with me."
Elam started to raise his weapon, but Cullen put out a hand to stop him. They didnât need any more people injured; this railroad wouldnât build itself and they were sorely lacking able-bodied men after the cholera hit.
The freedman, however, had still not learned to shut his mouth when it counted. âCome on all quiet like and you ainât gonna get shot!â
"Damn it, Elam, let me handle this!" Turning his attention back to the supposed demon, Cullen sighed. "You made a mess oâ things, ainât ya?"
This guy sure has a gift for the obvious âI guess so.â But he seems alright. His friend on the other hand⌠Elam, huh? I donât like his attitude.
"These racists bastards mistook me for an indian." I say as I walk towards the fellow talking to me.
"Stand back!" Of course, the ugly one had to get in the way and point his gun at me "Ainât talking to you." I say.
I look back at the bearded fellow âYour town folks tried to steal my horse and to kill me. I warned âem it was a bad idea but âey didnât wanna listen.â I look at both of them âNow, unless you folks are planning on arresting me, Iâll be on my way and no one gets hurt. Yaâ wonât be seeinâ me again.â
Frown deepening, Cullen stared pointedly at the stranger, sighing through his nose. Two conflicting sides of the story yet again and his loyalty to the railroad and his men was now going to be pitched back into the fight.
"You sure as hell ainât no Indian," the foreman remarked. "And these folk ainât used to strangers." Whatever had truly happened, the fight was likely a product of drunks poking at a man with no patience for their slurred words and insults. He himself had started a fight or two, but demonic accusations were Ruthâs business, not his.
Elam was fuming, however, and Cullen turned his hard gaze on him.
"Go get the handcuffs or somethinâ; stay outa trouble," Bohannon hissed, not willing to pry the freedman off their culprit when blows were exchanged.
"Hell yeah, you under arrest!" Elam growled, storming off to find the jail carâs keys and what restraints could be found. Rolling his eyes, Cullen marched up to the bar, pouring himself a drink.
"Welcome to Hell on Wheels." Downing the shot, the foreman nodded at the man, wincing as the whiskey burned his throat. "You got a name, son?"
Well, if I don't want to make any more trouble maybe I should just let 'em arrest me. I can easily escape later during the night. It's Devil Bear's Mount I'm worried about. Hope they don't do anything to my horse. I need him to escape from here. I wouldn't want to have to steal somebody else's horse.
Whiskey, huh? I like this guy. So far, he seems to be the only decent fellow around here "Well, thank you for having me." I say in irony "Do you treat all outsiders like this?"
I take a sit on the bar next to him and get myself some whiskey aswell "I'm Logan."

Stories of Survival || Snow White & The Wolverine
That couldnât be true âRobin Hood?â I repeated. That guy from the fairy tales? I donât what sheâs on but it must be some fucking good shit.
She has a point. But I donât even know where I am âWell, I donât know how I got here in the first place. Just get me out of this damn place and Iâll take a cab. Do you know how far from New York are we?â
"Donât give me that face." I said as I read her thoughts in her facial expression when I threw her the hunt "The hunt is yours. But so is your life. That doesnât mean I canât take it." There I am. Being rude again. I can solve it "But Iâll let you keep that too." Sure. All good now. I probably just made it worst. Now itâs too late "If you help me out."
Snow looked at him, frowning, then she shrugged. âI told you you wouldnât believe me, but Iâm not lying.â She didnât usually like lying if she could help it, and most people didnât believe her when she told them the truth anyways, so she figured there wasnât any reason to not tell the truth.Â
"New York? I donât even know where that is. Thatâs no where near here, and not for at least fifty miles around. I know this area very well.", Snow said proudly. She hoped the man wasnât crazy. She didnât have anything against crazy people, but he seemed very strong and she didnât feel like shooting anyone today.Â
"I can try to help you if you calm down and explain what exactly you need from me.", Snow offered. She didnât know if she could help him because he seemed confused, but she would certainly try. "Now could you tell me again where youâre trying to go? And what is âNew Yorkâ? I donât know of any place in this kingdom or any surrounding kingdoms with that name."Â
No where near here? It certainly didn't took me to walk much to get here. How the hell did I ended up here anyway?
But she's right I need to calm down and get my thoughts straight "Alright listen, this might seem a bit crazy but I don't know how I got here. In one moment I was walking the streets of Brooklyn and in the next I woke up here. I completly blacked out. I've been living in these woods ever since. God knows for how long." I take a deep breath "New York is a state in the USA. It's where I live. More precisely in Brooklyn. I need to find out how got here and how to get there. But for now I need to get out of these woods. I mencioned Robin Hood. Do you two live in a village or something? Do you think you could take me there?" I don't like to owe favors to anyone. Luckily, I can give something in return "If you do, I will help you out in any way I can. I'm a pretty good hunter, my skills are more than good, my stealth is remarkable and I'm the thoughest son of a bitch there is to kill. So, deal?" I say with a wink.

The pirate gave the other man a firm nod agreeing up to the plan. âFor someone who never heard of him you have quite a clear idea how he will act, mate.â Taking the pistol from his belt he aimed it towards the golden bell, shutting one of his eyes he pulled the trigger steadily. The bullet fired spun straight towards it making it ring â the sound being much stronger than he was thinking it would. He knelt down protecting his ears with his arms. âWas it good enough for yaâ, Logan?â
"Well, thatâs no surprise for me." I say noticing the mesmerize in the pirateâs words "Iâm a war veteran. A many wars veteran. Iâve learned how to predict the enemies moves before they even know which was it going to be. Well, canât say I learned it from anyone. I had a talent. I was the best there was." I chuckle "No, that wasnât it. Iâm the best there is. Thatâs it." I say nodding with my first finger "But without your description of him I couldnât do it. Iâm not a telepat. But I donât need to read his mind. Iâve met a lot of fuckers like him. They get more predictable as you get more used to dealing with them." Thatâs a true story for sure.
Thatâs the sound I was hoping for. Itâs almost unbearable but it sure did the trick. Damn pirate âCome on, Hook!â I run towards him and pressure his head âYouâre supposed to lay down, not kneel. People will see you. Youâre not doing a vow to the queen, godammit!â We hide behind the short and thin wall of the roof. Itâs just maybe a foot and a half tall. But itâs enough to cover our heads. The folks start gathering in the middle of the plaza âWhen you see him, point me.â I whisper.
âOh arenât we so modest?â He teased laying down next to him. âTelepat?â He repeated with a laugh. âNo one is, you couldnât guess; I understand. But Rumple isnât as predictable as you might thinkâ But yet, the pirate nodded at him and saw every citizen coming out from their houses and stores to see what was happening. He crawled a little more back to keep him covered from the otherâs eyes.Â
After not a long time, The Dark One came out as they were waiting too, he followed the man with flaming eyes, seeing to where he was heading. He stopped next to Regina, the mayor probably asking what had happened. âThat oneâ Hook said pointing at the man with the cane. âThatâs him.â
I make a sound with my mouth agreeing "I see." I look at Killian by the corner of my eye "So I got Hook and Stilt. Where's Black Beard?" I say in irony.
I lay my hand on Killian's shoulder "Come on. Let's get the hell outta here." I sneak back to the ladder. Once I'm down, I hide behind the wall and take a quick peak at the cane man once more "Hook, who's that woman standing next to him?" My guts tells me that she might be the one to be really worried about. Her scent. I've smelled it before. Not long ago. But when? Wait! I got it. It's the same scent I smelled before I got here! The scent of that cloud of smoke I was caught in.

âMake it ring?â He asked gaping, taking the manâs hand to go on top of the roof as well. âWhat do you mean with make it ring?â The pirateâs eyes widened in shock. Did the man with the claws thought he had magic and could ring it from that far? Would he want him to throw his sword from that length to hit the giant bell on the clock tower? âAre you mad?â
I raise an eyebrow and look at the fellow hairy pirate âWhat do you think?â I sit with my legs crossed and turn to the watch tower âYou got a gun donât you? Godammit.â What did he think I was expecting? Him to shoot missiles from his hands or something? âIf that Fart One is indeed in this town, he will hear it. Being so powerful as you say, he wonât be scared. He will be curious and wonât resist to come see whatâs happening. âCause is sure nothinâ will happen to him.â Although, this isnât the place to kill him. Not in the middle of the town âWe wonât kill him yet, though. Weâll make him come to us. We hide and wait for him. When you see him you tell me who he is.â If this works and he does show up âThen we walk away. Heâll be confused. That will make him interested. Later, we lure him to us.â
I look into the pirateâs eyes to see if heâs paying attention âKeeping up so far?â I turn back to the bell and resume my plan âIf this fails. Weâll just have to hope thereâs something in that bell or related to it thatâll awakens his attention.â

Stories of Survival || Snow White & The Wolverine
I read her body language as she steps forward. She doesnât seem like she wants to harm me. Instead, she seems to examine me âWolverine.â I say in my rough voice âAnd people donât usually believe in who I am or what I am. So, try me.â I insist âIâve been trying to get out of here for a very long time. If you know where I am or if you could point in the right direction I would really appreciate it.â I say as calmly as I can because I must look terrifying to her âIn exchange you can keep the hunt. And you can give whatâs left of it to someone that really needs. Whatever you want to do. Itâs yours after all.â I affirm.
Looking him up and down, Snow replied, âActually, Robin Hood taught me.â Seeing the disbelief on his face, she smirked. âTold you you wouldnât believe me.â When the man said he was lost, Snow was confused. It was a large area, but it wasnât all that difficult to navigate. âIf you tell me where youâre going, I could help. Without that knowledge, itâs impossible for me to tell you, isnât it?â Snow was a bit rusty at small talk, since it had been weeks since sheâd seen any people. She scoffed and raised her eyebrows when he said she âcould keep the huntâ. This stranger giving her permission to keep her own kill- the whole thing was odd to her. As she had determined he wasnât a threat, she set down her bow and crossed her arms in front of her chest, waiting on his response.Â
That couldn't be true "Robin Hood?" I repeated. That guy from the fairy tales? I don't what she's on but it must be some fucking good shit.
She has a point. But I don't even know where I am "Well, I don't know how I got here in the first place. Just get me out of this damn place and I'll take a cab. Do you know how far from New York are we?"
"Don't give me that face." I said as I read her thoughts in her facial expression when I threw her the hunt "The hunt is yours. But so is your life. That doesn't mean I can't take it." There I am. Being rude again. I can solve it "But I'll let you keep that too." Sure. All good now. I probably just made it worst. Now it's too late "If you help me out."
Wolverine Origins Update
