Hue

Eddie can taste the bubblegum flavored Lip Smacker she had on. Does she just like having moisturized lips or did she plan to eventually share a kiss with him? He wants to be rational and think about the first assumption. It’s hard not to, however. “Man… okay.” He breathes out, propping his hands on his waist. “I mean, I’m… I’m glad you didn’t pull away. You’re okay, right? I didn’t black out and think you kissed me back, right?”

“No, no. You’re fine. I did… kiss you back.” Chrissy nods.

Both of them hold excited, but anxious grins. They glance around the bathroom a lot as a quiet stillness is taking the place of the conversation.

While Chrissy is holding her hands in front of her, she gulps back a dry mouth. “Should we… smoke? I could probably use something to relax right now.”

“Yeah… yeah, sure. I have stuff in the van. Should probably not linger too long in the house anyway, since it’s… technically trespassing on private property?”

Still lightly raining, Eddie locked the front door and planted the key back in its original spot. He and Chrissy sit in his van, the engine filling the once chill atmosphere. Eddie begins driving to find a better place for privacy.

He decides to go to an abandoned factory building and kill the engine once in the parking lot. It is mostly hidden by trees so hopefully no cops will see his van while they linger by. Eddie gestures to the back for Chrissy, saying, “you can sit there.”

As she does so, crawling into the back, Eddie sifts through the side pocket of his door. He pauses at the touch of the small plastic bag of ketamine. Unsure, he lets it go and only brings two of the joints in the sun visor to the back along with himself. “This should smooth out any edges you’re feelin’.” He says to Chrissy, holding one out to her.

She takes the somewhat professionally rolled weed. Her eyes watch him as he takes a lighter out from his pocket, igniting the flame after a few attempts. He burns the end she is holding out already. “How long have you been smoking this stuff?”

“Uh, I think when I started getting held back.” Eddie puts a joint between his lips, burning it. “Three… four years… I think that’s right?” He takes one long inhale before blowing out a long sigh, smoke wisping from his mouth.

Chrissy nods a little while moving her joint to her lips. Trying to be confident, she takes a breath like Eddie, feeling it in her lungs. She holds for a few seconds. It is definitely her first smoke and it burns. She lets out a small coughing fit that results in Eddie laughing.

“Ah, man. For a second there I thought you were gonna impress me by withholding your cough.”

“It itches… and burns.” She explains, pushing one more cough and rubbing her neck.

He takes another hit. “Yeah, it’ll do that.”

Time went on and on. Eddie rolled down the windows and took his jacket off since it was becoming warm in the van. They talked some more, Chrissy asking him about how and why he was being held back. And gossiped about teachers and other students; mostly Eddie trash talked them while Chrissy just sat and listened to his complaints.

Soon enough they became more giggly and finding topics to talk about that were funny to them. Their joints are all used up and now they have to just wait for the session of fatigue to end.

Eddie ended up laying down on the floor. Chrissy sat with her back against the driver’s seat. He looks at her. “Hey… when this wears out, do you wanna go grab something to eat? I’m getting serious munchies.”

She shrugs, “sure. I probably won’t get much. I’m not really hungry.”

“Then we can share something.” He throws her a gentle smile before leaning his head back against the flat surface and closing his eyes.

Chrissy leans her head against the wall, resting her eyes as well. It becomes quiet. The two teens peacefully ride out the rest of their high and mumble from time to time inside jokes from the previous conversations.

*i know not as much happens in this part but I wanted to get something out for you guys*

     “Come on, come on.” Eddie says to himself, constantly checking his watch while teasing his hair to how he usually wears it. Eleven-forty-five. He arrives to a point that he deems acceptable and dashing around to grab his jacket, keys, and his Special K–just in case that’s why Chrissy asked to hangout. He hopes it isn’t.

     Uncle Wayne is sitting at the recliner again, watching his nephew. “It’s spring break, right?” 

     Eddie takes one last scan in the closest reflection. “Yes it is.”

     He pauses for a moment. “Then… why are you actin’ like you late for class?”

     “I was supposed to… uh,” Eddie’s hand reaches for the handle of the trailer door, “meet up with my friends. Last minute hangout, ya’ know?” With his uncles response being a nod, Eddie exits and leaves the door to slam shut behind him.

     While driving his way to Chrissy, he puts the radio on to his favorite station. He lifts his hand up to see the time, eleven-fifty-five. “You’re okay. You’re on time.” He whispers to himself, trying to not feel guilty for waking up later than he wanted to.

     Two songs on the speakers later, he arrives at the pickup spot; no Chrissy Cunningham to eye. A small bit of disappointment rises in his chest. He does his best to suppress it. She’ll be here eventually; he believes she will.

     Another two songs pass. It is twelve-o’nine. He wants to give it ten more minutes. Just as he is reaching for joints stashed away in the sun visor above him, he spots movement coming down the sidewalk. His previous chest ache switches to a good ache, a sensation like his lungs are being squeezed.

     Chrissy’s heart accelerates upon spotting his van. Waving to him, her strides become wider. Is this what it was like the first few times seeing Jason? Did she really lose this kind of rush? The boy she was currently dating is now an afterthought to everything? She sits in the passenger seat, a toothy smile displaying for Eddie Munson only.

     “Hey,” he greets, sounding a bit out of breath.

     She folds her hands on her lap. “Hi.”

     Chrissy suggested to go somewhere quiet. So Eddie thought the best spot is his drug dealers house that’s at Lovers Lake. Fortunately, Rick is not around. He is likely in prison or is just somewhere else for now.

     Chrissy asked Eddie to talk more about the music he likes. She followed with a ton of questions about the bands he would mention. He’s honestly impressed by how invested she seems with the lengthy conversation.

     Her small laugh pierces through the current music playing. “You sure know a lot.”

     “Yeah, I do… would you be surprised if I told you I’m barely getting through my classes?”

     “What? No!” She teases, making a shocked face to him. 

     He laughs, tapping his thumbs on the steering wheel. “If I get through this year… to be honest, I don’t know what I’m doing after.” His eyes take a glance at her. “Do you know what you’re doing after high school?”

     She shrugs. “Might go to college.”

     “Man, you must have money then.” He chuckles to himself, not aware how the whole money thing makes Chrissy feel. She just hums a response.

     She turns in her seat to face him more. “Well, do you have any plan?”

     “Eh, most likely get a job that I don’t mind. There’s this record store I was thinking about applying for. Vinyls are like, four bucks at most, but I could get some for free. And even get myself new ones that come right to the store. No wait on my end then.” 

     Chrissy smiles. “That’s perfect for you.”

     Finally they make it to Lovers Lake. Eddie parks the van to the side of the house. Chrissy follows along next to him once they leave the vehicle, seeing the water not too far away. “Wanna sit at the deck?” He asks.

     “Sure, sounds nice.”

     When resting at the edge, they both decided to take off their shoes and fold their pant legs up to dip their feet into the cool water. The spring weather is being generous; a light breeze flowing across the trees and their hair, the ripples on the lake glittering when the sun met with it at a certain angle.

     “If you aren’t… doing anything over the summer… maybe you should apply for the job, too?” Eddie knew this spring break was going to go by fast. If he can just charm her into spending more time with him once high school is done with, he’d be ecstatic. Don’t get him wrong, he’s absolutely thriving at the realization that he’s hanging out with Jason Carver’s girl. Eddie wants to shove it in his face so badly, but he knows he can’t do that. Not now. In a few weeks or months, sure.

     Chrissy’s eyes drift over the lake. “I wasn’t thinking about getting a job, really.”

     “Fair enough.” Eddie forces himself to keep a straight face. He doesn’t want show any defeat in his attempt of basically asking her out.

     “Extra money doesn’t sound bad, though.” She adds, swiveling her head to the left to look at him.

     Eddie makes eye contact. “I mean, hey.” He leans back a bit, propping himself with his arms behind him. “It would be fun. Little smoke after work, take you home,” a laugh falls from his lips, “possibly get in trouble with your boyfriend because what would Chrissy Cunningham be doin’ with a freak?’ Right?”

     Chrissy gives him a loose smile. “...he’s, uh.” She’s interrupted by small trickles of rain landing on her. 

     Eddie peers up. “Ahh, man. Is it seriously gonna rain?” He pulls his feet out of the water and stands. Holding out a hand, he says, “come on. Rick’s house probably has an extra key somewhere.” 

     As Chrissy takes his hand, her free one drags a little too much on the deck, resulting in a splinter planting into the pad of her thumb. She’s brought to her feet. “Jeez, a splinter.” 

     Eddie glances up to her while picking up his sneakers and her sandals. He’s about to say something when the rain becomes heavier. “Alright, let’s go. We’re gonna get soaked out here.” 

     They go to the front door, Eddie searching around the many spots a spare key can be kept. He is sure Rick still has one around. He finds it tucked away in the dirt of a withered potted plant, He moves to the door and unlocks it, gesturing for Chrissy to go in first. “Miss.” 

     She steps pass the doorframe and ambles about the kitchen. The front door creeks shut, before the tumbling of dropping shoes onto the floor by Eddie.

     “Let me see.” He snakes around her and as carefully as he can, grabs her hand to examine the splinter better. “There’s gotta be tweezers somewhere. Wouldn’t put it past Rick.” Eddie drops her hand and sets off to the bathroom. He shuffles through the cabinet under the sink, then drawers, then the shelves behind the mirror. Instantly he spots the metal tool beside some prescription drug bottles; most of them empty.

     “Found them?” Chrissy stands by the door. 

     Eddie closes the mirror. “Yep. Here.” He gives up the tweezers. “I’d do it, but… my hands are normally shaky.”

     In Chrissy’s head, she wanted him to do it so there’d be a reason to be closer to him. She holds her hands up closer to her so she can see clearly of what she’s doing. After a few attempts to wiggle the piece of wood out, she finally relieves the splinter. There is some blood, appearing as a tiny red dot. 

     Eddie opens a drawer that has a box of bandages that he saw before. He starts peeling the wrapper and two bits of wax paper off the bandaid. Facing Chrissy, he takes a step forward to fold it around her thumb. Once securing it, and his eyes travel from there to her face, his lungs feel like they’re being strangled once again. “Uhm, sorry… you could’ve done that yourself.” In his head, he is screaming to himself. He thinks what he just did is stupid and made the situation even more awkward than it already was.

     But even then, he cannot ignore the intrusive thought of what it’d be like to kiss her right now.

Chrissy steals Eddies guitar pick necklace occasionally when he takes it off. He’ll start looking around for it but once he lands his eyes on her and notices it, he cannot help his smile. 

He adores her hair down. Absolutely melting.

Chrissy has may worn a few shirts of his here and there. Her favorite is his Def Leppard shirt. 

She once put his hair up and added her green scrunchie to it. 

When Eddie is comfortable to be high enough with Chrissy, he enjoys it a lot. They talk about the silliest of things and listen to music on the record player in his room.

They fall asleep in the back of his van sometimes. As it became more frequent, Eddie tries to make it more comfortable. Stashing away an extra blanket and pillow for Chrissy.

One time they tried going out to swim at Lovers Lake. It was going well, until Eddie was freaking out about a fish constantly grazing his legs. They went back to the van and dried off, enjoying the rest of the days nice weather. Chrissy still teases him.

And Eddie is definitely the type to squirm when a spider, or anything with more than four limbs, goes near him. Then quickly he calms down to gain his composer. “Fuck... It was a spider.”

Chrissy is the same way. “I hate spiders.”

Eddie likes to go to the mall and just meander around, pointing out the things that remind him of Chrissy. Maybe getting her a gift. Gift possibly being a stuffed animal. Stuffed animal then also maybe being her favorite animal. It’s a bunny.

They do occasional one on one D&D campaigns. Eddie obviously being the DM for every session, trying to make the game as fun as possible for Chrissy. 

That means he made a character that’s pretty much him (a wandering merchant) and whenever Chrissy comes across the NPC, Eddie will flirt every encounter. “I could give you this item half of its original price.” “What’s the catch? There’s always one with you.” “Just a simple kiss on the cheek... or the lips, whatever is convenient for you, m’lady.”

Eddie would convince her to go to a metal concert. He made sure she was always close and safe. Metalheads can be rough. Most of the time he was holding her hand or had his arm around her. 

     She gulps back any urge to tear up. “Yes, I’m fine. Just a little tired. It’s late.” Her hand reaches for the door handle. About to open it, she pauses her attempt. “Eddie?”

     He acknowledges her barely audible call of his name. Good thing it’s a dull night so almost everything can be heard.

     Chrissy searches his face for some sort of cue. To let go of the conversation. Blowing out a breath, she asks in a low tone, “can you come by around twelve? I’d like to hangout again.”

     Relief washes over him. With a small chuckle, “you sure that’s how you wanna start your spring break?”

     A half sad, half happy smile, she nods just a little. “I don’t have any plans.” Chrissy was supposed to go to the party Jason was throwing right now. Some abandoned burger restaurant. She knows he’d be a bit confused why she didn’t go and might even visit in the morning or call the house. She would rather not think about him right now. Or tomorrow either.

     Eddie shrugs with the tone of ‘why the hell not’. “I am totally down. Same spot to pick you up I presume, m'lady?” Instantly in his head he becomes frightened that using the word ‘m’lady’ came off too strong. She has to think he was joking, as she laughs it off and confirms that it definitely should be the same spot.

     “See you tomorrow,” she pushes the door ajar, “don’t be late.”

     “I’ll be super-duper early to be sure.” Eddie jokes, receiving another laugh from her. It rings through his ears like angelic music.

     Chrissy slides out her seat dropping her white sneakers onto the curb. “Bye, Eddie.” She waves, shutting the door hard enough to close correctly. It was always an iffy door, Eddie said.

     “Bye.” He side-smiles, lifting a few fingers as a farewell. He watches her start down the sidewalk with her house just three doors down. Putting the van out of park, he drives beside her while giving one quick wave goodbye. Thankfully the passenger window is still down, so he yells out to her, “don’t forget to shower! My weed aroma is clingy!”

     She returns the gesture, amused by his last words. Two more houses to pass. Focusing on his van gaining more and more distance, the deeper her despair sinks into the pit of her stomach. One more house to pass. The only thing she can feel safe around is her father and younger brother. They were nowhere as nasty as her mother. Since it is so late, maybe her mom would be asleep and Chrissy can sneak to her room. Try to sleep away the hours until it’s time to see Eddie again.

     When he arrives back home and comes through the door, his uncle, Wayne, is sitting in the recliner with the tv on. Eddie is making a bee line to his room at the other end of the trailer. Just passing the kitchen, his uncle calls out, “Ed?”

     He spins on his heels, taking a few steps forward to face his tired relative. “Yes?” He replies while messing around with the keys in his hands.

     “You seem light on your feet, that’s all.”

     Eddie blows out a short laugh, “well… I guess I’m just happy. The club had a very good ending for the campaign.” He softly smiles, but he and his uncle know it’s not entirely about the D&D campaign.

     “Alright,” Wayne nods, sipping his beer and taking his attention to the tv again.

     Eddie retreats back to his room, closing the door. He drops the keys on his dresser and kicks around the mess he made trying to find his ketamine earlier. After taking off his jacket and jeans, he lays on his bed with his eyes glued to the ceiling. Nothing but thoughts full of meeting Chrissy in the woods and spending time in his trailer. A song pops up in his head that was playing on the radio at the time. Take On Me. His hands tap to the beat of the song on his stomach, mumbling the lyrics to himself. It makes him all giddy off of the emotions, grinning like a stoned idiot.

     Chrissy makes it to her room without any confrontation. Locking the door and turning a lamp on to get ready for bed. When tossing her cheer outfit into the hamper, she catches the smell of weed. Of Eddie. Smiling to herself, she walks over to turn off the lamp and pulls the covers over her as she slips into bed.

     As she is trying to fall asleep, her mind is reciting all of what Eddie has spoke about. Smirking at the visuals of him back in middle school. His band, Corroded Coffin, jamming out a cover of a song. Or it could have been an original, she doesn’t recall.

     “Corro–you do remember! Right?” Eddie rejoiced while celebrating with a pointed finger landing on her.

     “Oh my god! Yes! No, of course! With a name like that, how could I forget?” She said, so surprised by the rushing memories.

     Eddie folded his hands in front of him. “I dunno. You’re a freak.” He smiled at her with a look of admiration.

     Chrissy can’t believe the liveliness Eddie has brought her today. He has made her feel a lot better. A vibe of comfortability surrounding him wherever he is; welcoming her with no judgment. Someone she can ask for anything and he’d deliver. Butterflies she thought were long gone come back to life. Ones she remember having the first time meeting Jason. That may not be the greatest sign, considering how much she knows he is in love with her.

     She is obviously beyond nervous. Her thoughts race with whether this was a great idea and if it’ll even work. It’s almost a shot in the dark, but worth a try anyhow.

     Eddie slowly takes a tiny plastic bag out, placing the container on the nearby counter. “Advice, don’t take it at home since you’d obviously keep this from your family. Anyone can notice someone high on this stuff.” He holds it out, a visible shakiness to his hand.

     Chrissy grabs the bag, her fingers grazing his for a second. She nods her head to his words. Looking down, she fidgets with the plastic edges. It is silent.

     “You could…”

     Her eyes, then her head, move up to Eddie.

     “…take it here?” He places his hands on his hips. “It’s a pretty safe place to do it. I won’t,” he shrugs, “judge.”

     Chrissy lets out a smile, nodding. “Yeah, sure. Then… maybe I should keep it here so I have a reason to come.” She hands it back over to him.

     “Okay, cool. Uhm.” Eddie taps the bag in his hands, peering to his feet. “Would you want to take it now? Or… should I drive you back home? Or somewhere else? I’m not sure you want your parents to see me with you.”

     A gentle laugh leaves both of them.

     Chrissy shakes her head, “no. I kinda wanna take it now.”

     “Alright, well, take a seat on the couch. I’ll set it up for you.” Eddie throws her a quick grin before going around the trailer to grab some things.

     Chrissy takes one line of ketamine and that’s it. Eddie knows she wouldn’t ask for more but even if she did, he wouldn’t allow it. He put the radio on as she settled in to wait for the effects to seep in. He finally sits next to her after putting stuff away.

     Chrissy moves to face him, resting her head to the side. “So… what’s this Hellfire Club all about?” She questions, pointing to his shirt.

     “Well,” a huge smile spreads across his face. The mention of anything D&D perks him up every time. “It’s a club with a bunch of freaks,” he gestures to himself, “like me. We play Dungeons and Dragons. Ever heard of it?”

     “I’ve heard the name, but know nothing about it.” Chrissy grins, folding her hands on her lap. “It’s like a game, right?” She found his passion on talking about it so endearing. He starts to go on and on. The history behind it, how the game works, the few great moments he had with his friends.

     Eddie leans an arm on the couch, holding the side of his head up with his hand. “It’s honestly the most fun thing to do at school. Well, after school.”

     Chrissy stares at him, feeling more relaxed than she was from the beginning of the conversation. “And to think the news is saying it’s such a bad thing.”

     “Exactly!” He cheers, gesturing to nothing particular. “It’s fantasy, make believe! Nothing harmful at all.”

     Chrissy’s lips press together, a smile tugging again. She forgot how it feels to genuinely smile about someone. Jason is a great guy, he cares about her. However, things have been feeling like there’s something slipping between them. She no longer feels interested in the things he’s interested in. Parties, dates; talking to him sometimes felt like a task more than something she wanted to do.

     But she thinks she could talk to Eddie for hours. Maybe it’s just the drug making her feel that way, but she doesn’t care one bit.

     “Maybe you should try playing with me… or the whole club. Ya’ know, whatever you prefer.” Eddie suggests, putting his feet up on the coffee table. “But maybe just us so you know the ropes before diving into a full party.”

     They smile at each other. Chrissy fidgets with the fabric of her skirt. “Yeah, I mean… I wouldn’t mind. Seems like a good time.”

     Eddie’s eyes sparkle as he stares at her, his heart fluttering at the sudden thought about her being interested in him. Never thought he could end up with a girl like Chrissy. Finding how different she actually is from what he assumed her to be and hearing how nice she is, it all changes his perspective on her. Maybe it can happen.

Part Two

Since Chrissy would be too anxious to breakup with Jason for some time, she would secretly meet up with Eddie. They would meet at the picnic table beyond the field bleachers during breaks or after school. Occasionally she’ll visit his trailer when his uncle isn’t around.

Eddie would sneak into a basketball game just to see Chrissy cheer. He’d be sitting at the far end of the front row. After the game and meeting up, he’ll invite her to his trailer to relax.

He’ll occasionally tease her cheering but obviously still support her either way.

Eddie would be the type to make sure that if Chrissy asked to take a strong drug, he’d stay sober or barely high to make sure she is okay until she finally sleeps or the effects ware off.

Chrissy would play with his hair if they were laying down together. He’d do the same back; always praising how soft her hair is.

After some time, Chrissy definitely catches interest in D&D. Eddie is beyond excited to teach her everything about it, soon convincing her to join the Hellfire Club (unofficially since she’s still the “queen of Hawkins” who wouldn’t hangout with “freaks”).

(Not exactly a fun headcanon) Chrissy would open up about her relationship with her mother to Eddie, and her self esteem. He would be super devastated over it but will always try to help her. Either if she asks for help on something or needs to be comforted. He’s there, always.

Their first date would be as cheesy as it is, a movie. Eddie would try to put his arm around her multiple times, but Chrissy just wants to hold his hand the entire time on his or her lap.

Chrissy tries to tutor him so he can graduate with her. (Possibly they graduate together or he fails, who knows?)

During the summer, Chrissy would find the courage to breakup with Jason, never mentioning Eddie since she knows Jason wouldn’t like that news.

They would probably apply for the same part time job. Chrissy would also possibly apply for university. Eddie most likely doesn’t really care much for higher education so he just sits back and becomes Chrissy’s personal cheerleader. “You’re too smart not to get in. Are you kidding me?”

They’re definitely the type to compare hand sizes just to feel each other’s hands/hold hands.

Eddie would purposely make D&D easy/difficult, just to see what she’ll do. He would never admit to going easy on her to the rest of the club.

Kissing is Eddie’s favorite thing. Cuddling is Chrissy’s favorite thing.

Chrissy would be Eddie’s anchor when he is overwhelmed on something. And he’d be the same for her.

She’d turn into a D&D geek soon enough, that it’d make Eddie tear up at how far she’s come.

Eddie would surprise Chrissy with a little model of her D&D character, painting it himself (although halfway through he asked Erica to paint the rest of it for him since he doesn’t have the steadiest of hands).

Chrissy would go to any of Eddie’s gigs for his band. Maybe trying to remember all the lyrics to their songs (if their music even has lyrics, don’t know much about the band).
