why Makarov calls Nolan 'bratok' and what this ( in theory ! ) might mean !

a quick reminder : 'bratok' ( браток ) is the same as 'brother' ( brat / брат ) but more diminutive and affectionate; 'bratok' is also a more informal form of address and in criminal circles it was customary to call each other this

first, I want to explain what it means in russian society to call someone a brother. Calling someone a brother has a deep meaning in itself; it means trust, 'one of us', 'family' and that a person ( in particular, a man to another man ) is so close to you that he is practically like a brother

a 'brother' can be a friend, a connection in the criminal world, an ideological ally and so on. It depends on the person why they call someone else a brother but regardless of the reasons, it always meant one thing : trust and connection

In prisons, it is customary to call each other 'brother', as this emphasises equality within the framework of non-freedom and is used instead of addressing each other by name, emphasising mutual assistance. Four years is enough for Makarov to adapt to the concepts within the prison and take on the prison 'culture', including this form of address

2. ( not in the game, but it can be assumed ) Makarov was born in 1980, which means his childhood was in the 90s and his adolescence / youth was in the 00s. At that time, namely after the collapse of the USSR, the Russian government was weak and lacked authority, which led to the rise of banditry, followed by concepts, slang ( including 'brother' ) and so on. Even if Makarov did not directly witness crime and grew up in a decent Moscow neighbourhood, he could at least hear / see something on television, so consider that he grew up when banditry was in the air

and after so many years, Nolan can finally show what he has been hiding all along and not just show it but also receive praise for his actions and recognition from Him with a capital H

I also like Nolan's argument that Makarov taught him strength and powerful ideas, and I really want to connect this speech with the arguments above...

I also like the phrase, 'You see, I earned my Commander's trust because I don't give up easily. I don't bend, I don't break, I just keep burning' and even though the speech ( most likely ? ) is about Nolan's loyalty, I like to think that the reason why Makarov 'favours' Nolan and trusts him is also related to the fact that Nolan did not turn away from this violence, but on the contrary continued to do his job, unlike Ivan, for example

Makarov is in his usual suit, but on top of it he wears a large unbuttoned coat, almost like a "gangster" coat from the 90s, to match him, a scarf is carelessly thrown over his shoulders, and he hides his hands in his coat pockets
