Percy Jackson actually started out as a character made to oppose what most people thought had to be "main characters" he was workikg class, he was the son of a single mother, , he was physically and verbally abused, he was disabled, wasn't considered to be conventionally attractive (Or at least people didn't treats him like he was),but, he was an icon, an icon to those who finally felt like they could be protagonists of their stories and not just "sidekicks" or characters randomly adrede for performative representation...And then came Heroes of Olympus, bookseries in which...The character, made to uplift those underepresented was turned into the ""stupid"" golden retriever boyfriend. Now, I don't believe anyone is stupid, idiocy is concept mostly based on ableism, but we can't deny Percy lost all his wit, which is only shown (pretty horribly) when Rick Riordan wants to say "Hey guys! 'Persassy' isn't gone! Look at him go!" His only notable actions/feats at some point just revolve around Annabeth, He got better at studies? He's working hard to go to college with his girlfriend! He was able to keep some of his memories after a goddess tries erasing them? Of course he only remembered Annabeth! He discovered he could control poison? How romantic! He did that to save Annabeth...And don't even make me start on the show, Rick, you can't be that thoughtless when choosing actors for your series, and you can't just erase the complex topics from your work, which, AGAIN, seemed to help a lot of people just because "representing poverty/abuse are too dark topics to represent on the big screen" Kids get abused everyday Rick, kids live in poverty everyday Rick, I assure you, those aren't just "adult themes". Overall: Percy was reduced to what the fandom found most appealing about him, of course I don't mean all the kids or even adults that san themselves in him, I mean the shippers, the people that only car wife their "beloved PercaBeth" is canon.

Now for Harry Potter...He really is just a product huh? In most merch he's reduced to him glasses and scar, the traits most, even the ones that weren't involved with the books/movies, can recognize him from. Nothing about him seemed to be further explored upon, his trauma after being abused by the Dursleys? That just explains his attitude and indpendence! As we all know: Trauma just makes us stronger: Right? His reaction to the magical elements of the world? Oh, well he asks superficial questions to the audience can have the minimal information required, he doesn't care all that much to be honest....Bioessentialism being just thrown at his face the moment he enters school? Well...Just human nature/ref to that one JKR interview...But suddenly, when the books become a massive hit, when people started creating one of the biggest fandoms the world had ever known...Harry was so much more, there were fanfics, exploring those sidekicks of him Jk was too lazy to delve into, there were theories, both about the wizarding world and the characters...And of course, they just had to be canon! People guessed it, of course, it's not like some parts of the story were merely added to please fans...What do you mean? Of course Johanne had it all figured it out from the start!
