AND ANOTHER THING. I hate the fact they made Will sympathize with Henry/Vecna. Will's character arc is so clearly an allegory for childhood sexual assault and I'm sick of the whole forgiving your abuser thing. It is such a harmful and weird narrative to push, especially for Will.

No, no I think it's great that they reduced the personalities and screen time of literally all the female characters. Yes let's kill the young POC girl who has suffered abuse her whole life. EXCEPT we need to leave all the white men alive and their characters will be flushed out with happy endings. Hmmm? Oh is that the canon lesbians? Let's only show one of them in the epilogue. And our female protagonist who has only ever wanted to be loved will end up completely alone.

What I think a lot of people don't understand when they say Byler isn't queerbait is that, while some subtext is in the show, most of it comes from marketing. The Duffer brothers and Netflix milked Byler for all it was worth because they were making a profit. That's what queerbait is about, not the queer people themselves, but the profit to be made by exploiting their identities.
