you also can’t convince me that andrew lets kevin touch him properly, especially not the hair. i think kevin thinks about it all the time, but andrew is so properly closed off (and yet weirdly open at the same time that nobody bothers to crack the surface to get to what’s underneath) that kevin is never fully trusted with Everything. kevin helps andrew stay out of jail (see: hanging onto his medication) but that’s about the extent he can manage. 

kevin would so spill his feelings first in his kevin way (talking around it by accident, never directly saying what he means but swearing something in the Kevin Way à la You Should’ve Been Court) and andrew would’ve merced him on sight

kevin gives andrew purpose and reason to stay (because of the Promise), but he can’t make andrew want to be there like neil. and kevin fucking tries because kevin thinks he knows what andrew wants. he knows what andrew is good at and he sees a maintainable future for andrew, but it’s not what andrew wants. and andrew never tells him, because he doesn’t want kevin to make it a reality

kevin pushes andrew every single step of the way because he knows deep down on some level, andrew would like to be very good, but he knows it’ll never happen because of his exterior and his reputation and his instability. but “would like to” and “want” are not the same thing. kevin is pushing andrew along and andrew hates to be pushed, and kevin knows he doesn’t have enough of what andrew needs in order to really move his whole career/real desires along

post psu kandrew in which they grow out of a heavy need/codependency for each other and andrew goes pro. something about the concept of not playing for kevin anymore (first guy to ever believe in him btw) while refusing to give his game entirely to anyone but kevin. something about the concept of palmetto state foxes being kevin's launching point on the way to the olympics (somewhere to get back on his feet and start over) but psu being andrew's dead end.
