Hotel Worker Problems

Guests really, like REALLY, think that I'm going to trust them more than my coworkers. Like really? I DONT KNOW YOU! WHO ARE YOU?? I at least sort of know my coworkers and their work ethic and quality of character. But who the f#!k are you, random person??

We've honestly been super busy since things have officially reopened here. The last 2 months or so have been crazy for the day shift. My nights havent been too bad, but some of the people here are super annoying. They think since all of this is going on that we're gonna sell rooms for like $100/night, but we still need to keep our reputation, and lowering the rate that much would tank it. And we've already been getting a more ratchet clientele with how much lower it has been anyway.

I just got yelled at because I moved someone's room because there were tiny, baby roaches in the bathroom, and I didnt think to upgrade them in the process. I'm sorry I was just trying to make it a fast process and deal with the problem at hand.

Don't book a room with two queen beds and bring 7 people to sleep in that room and then complain about the room being too small for 7 people

One of the main things that I dont like about my hotel (but I think can sometimes just be a common problem for night auditors) is the lack of communication from managers. Its into our busy season now and you'd think that maybe a manager would email about procedures we might encounter that we havent yet, like if we get a walk, if we need to walk someone, posting and charging no shows and when to do it (because we don't normally). But they always just send emails explaining about what to do, AFTER we mess it up. Like.......? Idk and I kind of really dont care anymore.

I'm watching Prom Night and just all of this destruction to the hotel is making me mad! Lol the swat team just busting down every single door; give them a master key!!! Do you know how much money that will cost to fix??? Closing down the whole hotel, having to refund EVERY SINGLE GUEST, and most likely the school for having the prom there. And worst of all!! The housekeeper just LET the guy in his room with her master key and THEN told him he'd have to go to the front desk to get a new key!!! They should have it drilled into their skulls to NEVER DO THAT!!!!

I'm sorry that I was on the fucking phone with a future guest who was just trying to make sure their stay with 3 different but consecutive reservations went smoothly for them and that you had to wait 5 minutes to check out at 4:30am. If 5 minutes of waiting is going to make or break your trip time then you need to plan a lot fucking better. Don't get pissy with me.

Omg the newish relief night auditor is working tonight and he called me because apparently the fire alarm is going off!! Theres really nothing I can do if I'm not there so I told him to call the head engineer. I'm so glad it's not me there tonight. I think the hotel does something big like this to sort of haze each new auditor because I had a terrible night after I first started with the ac not working in most of a whole building (and it was Florida in June).

You know when you make mistakes at work that were just compounded problems but nothing "bad" would have happened if you hadn't done that one thing? That happened last night. We had a group that originally was gonna buy out the whole hotel but we ended up having about 20% of rooms that weren't with them, and those rooms were sprinkled on every floor. Well this mf group got drunk and loud! I had 2 rooms in particular that called at least 3 times, and 1 guy came down to the front desk to complain. I ended up calling the cops just to try and scare them quiet. Well, apparently I was supposed to call the group contact that was on property. This little tidbit was in the group info we had so I honestly should have read it and seen it, that is my bad. I overheard the 2 sales people talking about it, because I'm waiting to get my w2 this morning, and I talked to them about it. She even said that she knows nobody reads those.... so why dont you make double sure that the person who will have to deal with this rowdy group fucking knows this. Email the night audit email and just attach the group info and just make sure that I know if I have any trouble with them to call the group contact??? It would have taken 1 minute and prevented this, which honestly probably isn't gonna be that bad anyway. If it is a problem it's the tiny tip of a much larger iceberg of problems that I had nothing to do with. I'm trying not to get upset about this because I honestly dont care, but now they're gonna go do "damage control" and talk to this guy. Big deal, he probably wouldn't have been able to calm them down anyway.

Omg I read a review of someone that I checked in at like 2am and I also checked them out at like 5am about 28 hours later. They wrote that our security guard was unfriendly and made them feel unwelcome and uncomfortable (but they said I was great :)). But, like, he's the security guard, it's kind of his job to be that way. They pulled in at like 2:30a and it's not like we can read their mind who they are. They also said we seemed surprised when they arrived even though they apparently called the hotel a couple times to make sure we knew they would get there around 2am (there was a note on the reservation). And again I say, I'm supposed to read your mind as to who tf you are??

Ya know when you have an interaction with a guest and they tell you something and 2 minutes later you forget it because you're super scatterbrained all the time because you work in a hotel and are constantly being pulled in different directions? Yeah, that I can get over if they're nice about it, but sometimes they have a tone and all I want to say is "You know what? Fuck you."

People seriously need to learn how to use their words. Dont come up to the general vicinity of the front desk and mumble something or say one word in my direction and think that I'm going to somehow read your mind and know what wtf you want. Sometimes I nicely and politely make them spell it out for me so they can hopefully learn to create complete questions and properly communicate what they need.

Dont motherfucking book the cheapest room type and expect to get upgraded for free when you check in, and get UPSET about it! when I literally dont have any other room type to move you to.

If you're going to interrupt me and just say yep and okay before I even finish telling you how to get to the room, then dont come crying to me when you get lost. The rooms are in 2 separate buildings and you have to go outside of the main/lobby building to get to them but people will not pay attention and just use the elevator in this building and then come back 10 minutes later and ask how to get to the room again.
