In honor of Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday today. This is a live recording of her singing Mack the Knife at a show in Berlin in 1960. What’s so special about this recording is that she forgets the lyrics to the song and then just improvises the rest of the song without skipping a beat. This performance later earned Fitzgerald a Grammy for Best Vocal Performance, Female (Single). Truly an amazing artist.
