Rapier and Parrying Dagger

Made in the 1600’s style

Measurements: sword - overall length 128 cm; dagger - overall length 47 cm

The sword has a strong double-edged blade with both sides sharp and a central ridge. The bulky, multi-fluted iron hilt has a pierced shell, a guard ring and a side strap, plus a notched iron pommel , the offset grooved wooden handle with two iron braided ferrules. The dagger has a blade with both sides grooved and ridged at the top. It is presented in an velvet-covered wooden scabbard.

Cavalry Sword

Dated: 1765-85

Measurements: overall length 105.15 cm; blade length 889.7 cm

Provenance: the Carlton House Catalogue records that “this sword was worn by the Marquis of Granby at the Battle of Minden”

The sword features a burnished steel hilt with a ribbed pommel. The barrel-shaped spiral wooden grip is covered with white rayskin and silver gilt foil. The two-edged blade-gilt panel display floral trellis, blued panel gold edge and with three fleur-de-lys, inscriptions, and on the inner face a crowned G R III.
