he liked to pretend that it was his own excited imagination  that brought life to the shadows on the wall,    rather than the lonely ghosts that danced across the pale stone day in and night out.      they called to mind too many dances that would result in his angry and bitter lamenting late in the summer evenings,  when no one could see his temper.  

                       grim eyes fell on the young man for what felt like the hundredth time in the last minute,  haunted and cold.    “ we’re here waiting for you. ”

NOBODY   EVER   WAITED   FOR   ALFRED   it   was   he   who   waited   for   something   /   someone   that   never   came   .   &   where   fear   was   prevalent   ,   where   it   took   all   he   had   to   set   one   foot   in   front   of   the   other   (   FOR   SARAH    .   )   a   distinct   part   of   him   knew   :   there   was   more   to   it   .

newborn   ,   lowborn   ,   end   of   the   food   chain   .   none   of   that   for   him   to   have   .

it   left   him   scouring   the   halls   alone   ,   sarah   WHEREVER   ,   the   other   vampires   (   his   comrades   now   ,   but   never   truly   )   watching   him   ,   not   approaching   .   but   he   heard   the   whispers   ,   the   laughter   &   he   felt   the   constant   dear   for   his   ,   undead   ,   life   .
