Ooh, a very good question!

I'll pop it in small bullet points! But the key thing to remember is that people progress differently and enter different flows of improvement. My art improvement didn't really start to happen until 2019 to around 2021.

Consistency: Even drawing for 10 minutes each day will help with improvement. I did exercises and drew in a sketchbook most of the time and saw vast improvement from there.

Gesture Drawings/Life Drawing: I cannot stress how much doing life-drawing really did help out my improvement. Stare at a brick, draw an apple, draw people walking by. Gesture/life drawings are so helpful, and there are sites with photo assets that you can use as references. [Line-of-Action is a good one!]

References: Use those references in your art! It's not cheating to have a visual reference on the side to help guide you. Stuck on a hand? Take a picture and use it as a ref. A pose? Search online or pose yourself! There's endless possibilities. Some 3D models can be helpful, though I find with Clip Studio's models, their proportions can get a bit broken when posing.

Find a Brush You Like: Honestly this is more for digital artists, I find that getting a certain brush you like and feels nice helps with the flow of your art.

Quell Your Expectations: If you go into something expecting it to be perfect right off rip, then you'll get frustrated. Not everything has to be perfect immediately!

Have Fun: Cheesy tip, I know, but art is something that should be enjoyed. In the era of AI, there's so much non-human made slop, that it can be discouraging. Draw that ship, that character you like, draw a shitpost, enjoy the process.

Personally, drawing stupid shenanigans always made me enjoy the process of creating, but the most important thing to remember is that you need to take your time. Patience is key in the end.

Also just,,,,getting really obsessed with a single OC or character and drawing them non-stop can create some shocking results on improvement. Hyperfixation for the win I guess?

One of the biggest struggles that I see in romantasy is the ability to balance stakes with the romance aspect of the story. Many writers struggle to maintain actual stakes within characterization and the fair power dynamics of the relationship. In crescent city this becomes its undoing as the stakes of individual backstories clash with the power dynamics of the relationship and ruin the health and attachment to the relationship.

In my opinion, the best way to mitigate this issue is to have stakes evolve, or possibly just have equal stakes in relationships from start to finish. Stakes can evolve with escalation in the story and while a niche doesn’t necessarily need to be avoided (I.e. adulting or women’s issues) it needs to be proportional to the partner as well. If the partner doesn’t experience similar stakes, they become infantilized in the relationship, if they have too great stakes, they are overpowering and likely unhealthy for their partner.

I feel like I can’t go much of anywhere online without seeing mention of how difficult it is for people to write fight scenes. This is one of my favorite parts of writing and I like to get into the thick of the moment when I write these, so I find it very important to get into the head of the fighting character. However, I also see a lot of people who over analyze too much. The way to write a good fight scene is to make sure you are showing what the character thinks, but remember to get out of their head.
